Similar to a treehouse, this unique little cottage sits on an elevated deck wrapped around an old growth Redwood stump and is surrounded by large Redwood trees. The stump house is large enough for 2 sleeping pads inside and there is space on the deck for one more, however please note that the deck is not covered. A quick walk downhill brings you to our family's farm (where farm products are available for purchase, see below) and above the stump house are old logging roads and acres of forest land. Neighbors are nearby but not visible due to the lush environment and large neighboring acreages. The air is clean and fresh as we are 5 miles from the ocean and surrounded by forests. As far as history, our land was logged in 1915 and several old growth stumps are scattered on the property as evidence. Since then the forest has regrown and the young trees are already hundreds of feet tall. A twenty minute bike ride or five minute car ride will bring you to one of two nearby towns, and spectacular beaches are also close by.

Eureka just minutes to the south and Arcata just minutes to the north offer dining and entertainment of all kinds. Farmers markets, movie theaters, live music, boat tours of Humboldt Bay, breweries, wineries, cider companies, roller-derby and more, there is always something fun to do in the area. Outdoor walks and hikes in both the forest and along beautiful beaches and coastline are abundant. Patrick's Point State Park and the town of Trinidad 15 to 20 minutes drive north offer some of the most breathtaking coastal views and beaches in the country. With 6 rivers, 3 lagoons, Humboldt Bay and the ocean nearby there are almost always opportunities for great fishing. If gambling is your thing there are 3 casinos just a 10 to 20 minute drive away. If you would like directions or advice on things to do please feel free to ask us!

Fresh eggs, cream top cow milk and yogurt can be purchased in the barn when available as well as soaps, salves, tinctures and hydrosol, all produced right on the farm!

We hope you will consider staying at the Redwood Stumphouse on your next trip to Northern California.

Jamie and Jenni were incredibly kind hosts and made sure I was totally set and comfortable for my night at the Stumphouse. The Treehouse is located just a short walk up a hill into the redwoods from where you will park / meet your hosts. The treehouse was super tidy and well maintained. From the attached deck you can almost see the bay peaking trough the trees. This is a perfect spot that's just close enough to town to feel comfortable but far enough away to get a sense of disconnect. In the main house there is a bathroom and small kitchen area available for use. My night at the Stumphouse was incredibly peaceful and the very cozy, would love to stay here again.

The Redwood Stumphouse is a nice change from the traditional campsite. It's up on a small hillside on their property giving you a great view of their farm that they allow you to explore. Say Hi to the chickens wandering around and grab a fresh egg for breakfast.
Jamie and his family are friendly hosts from the moment of booking and after we left. Given the chance, I would camp there again. Happy Camping!

A real cozy treat of a place. It's surreal waking up next to that enormous, mossy stump. No power or heat in the room - just what I wanted. Great light in the morning.

The property is beautiful and the redwood forest above the stumphouse itself is great for a morning stroll. Jamie was a friendly and gracious host. The main house with the bathroom and kitchenette had everything I needed.

I will definitely be planning a stay at the Stumphouse next chance I get!

It's like camping out in the treehouse in your parent's backyard :-) Hosts are lovely and accomodating and the view from their place is nice! If you have a bit of gear, the hike up the hill to the treehouse might be a bit annoying, but it's not far at all. Treehouse has a few spiders, if you're not into eight legged friends! Chickens and cows at the farmhouse were a real highlight for our kid.

The Redwood Stumphouse is the perfect place to stay on your northern California road trip. The Stumphouse is in the forest behind Julie's house but still feels very private. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest.

The stump house was an awesome experience and perfect for my girlfriend and I. The outdoor shower is an awesome feature and space. The stump house is a fun secluded area among beautiful gorgeous redwood trees.
