The Ranch at Badger Creek

Once an old Spanish land grant, our little 2 acre homestead lies within a 240,000 acre private cattle ranch turned nature conservancy. Home to all manner of wildlife, the relatively untouched wilderness is home to; bear, mountain lion, deer, elk, wild boar, turkeys, quail, eagles, hawks and so much more. My great uncle Dale acquired our few acres of this heaven back in the '30's and leased an additional 1,800 acres to run his own cattle operation. My father took over in the '70's, maintaining the land and cattle operation until the late '80's. He recently had to "move to town" so I have come back home to the ranch. I think the first thing you will notice, besides the beauty, is the quiet. And it's not really quiet, it's an absence of human sounds. Your shoulders may begin to settle, your knees may start to soften and your body, your spirit may start to remember what it's like to be on the earth. The dirt. No concrete to asphalt to block you from the earth...you might find yourself getting really sleepy by 8pm, and, if your lucky, you might have the best nights sleep you've had in years. You might also be awakened by the cry of the pair of red tailed hawks that nest behind our place, or the golden eagles that nest a little further up the ridge. It's pretty common to see and hear them throughout the day. We are currently creating a community space for retreats, workshops and gatherings. We are planting LOTS of trees with the vision of creating a food forest and expansive gardens based in permaculture. We will be offering our second house and apartment out to campers soon as well as adding a tipi, yurt, tree house and possibly a gypsy wagon in the near future. Come join us, we'd love to host you!

Secluded Mountain Hideaway
This truly is a secluded mountain hideaway! After meeting Vince, who is one of the best humans around, you'll drive well into the mountains before reaching his property which is nestled between two ranges and a lovely creek. I'd recommend setting up camp at the creek spot for a little more seclusion and water access, but the others do have a better view of the mountains, sunrise and sunset. The property is animal friendly but watch out for wildlife -- especially snakes. There's plenty of hiking available -- some more advanced than others. No matter what, you'll have a peaceful getaway in a truly magical, spiritual place.

Vincent met us at the gate of the ranch. We drove 15miles on a well-graded dirt road across outstanding California rolling hills landscape. We set our camp at site 1 under the shade of two big trees. The sites have chairs and a picnic table for you to use. Nearby there is a creek running with ice cold water. When the sun is high and the temperature rises the creek is a great place to chill. Make sure you get dinner before or after sunset, you will want to spend time just contemplating the outstanding color gradients on the surrounding hills when the sun goes down. Light pollution is inexistent at night and you will be able to enjoy great dark skies. There is a clean bathroom with running water for the campers to use. Vincent is welcoming and always willing to help. We had a great time and we enjoyed the opportunity to drive through Tejon Ranch to stay at this gem. We will definitely come back!

Secluded Mountain Hideaway
My fiacnĂŠe and I stayed here on the last day of April, when the grass was lush and the temperature was perfect. We were greeted as planned by Vince, who is extremely friendly, warm and welcoming; all the characteristics you look for in a host for this sort of thing. He escorted us up a 15 mile dirt road to his property, which involved wiggling up the canyon passing large oak trees and picturesque hills and pastures. Cows were free to roam along the road and creek which ran parallel on the right, so it felt like a 'cow safari' for lack of a better term. I was concerned about our VW Jetta making it up this road but it was completely fine. We setup on one of Vince's few options to camp with the fire pit clean and ready for our use. We spent the day playing cards by our tent and walking down along the creek that borders his property. That night the stars were extremely impressive capping what was a great and quick getaway from LA! We will be back!
