Once an old Spanish land grant, our little 2 acre homestead lies within a 240,000 acre private cattle ranch turned nature conservancy. Home to all manner of wildlife, the relatively untouched wilderness is home to; bear, mountain lion, deer, elk, wild boar, turkeys, quail, eagles, hawks and so much more. My great uncle Dale acquired our few acres of this heaven back in the '30's and leased an additional 1,800 acres to run his own cattle operation. My father took over in the '70's, maintaining the land and cattle operation until the late '80's. He recently had to "move to town" so I have come back home to the ranch.
I think the first thing you will notice, besides the beauty, is the quiet. And it's not really quiet, it's an absence of human sounds. Your shoulders may begin to settle, your knees may start to soften and your body, your spirit may start to remember what it's like to be on the earth. The dirt. No concrete to asphalt to block you from the earth...you might find yourself getting really sleepy by 8pm, and, if your lucky, you might have the best nights sleep you've had in years.
You might also be awakened by the cry of the pair of red tailed hawks that nest behind our place, or the golden eagles that nest a little further up the ridge. It's pretty common to see and hear them throughout the day.
We are currently creating a community space for retreats, workshops and gatherings. We are planting LOTS of trees with the vision of creating a food forest and expansive gardens based in permaculture. We will be offering our second house and apartment out to campers soon as well as adding a tipi, yurt, tree house and possibly a gypsy wagon in the near future.
Come join us, we'd love to host you!
