Treat yourself to a comfortable camping experience on our 5-acre community in the rural Central Coast. We offer campers the "garden chateau," a wood cabin with a deck and beautiful views overlooking the coastal valley. The cabin has electricity and a full size bed, though please bring your own sleeping bag and pillows! Located 5 minutes away from Arroyo Grande and 15 minutes away from San Luis Obispo, our property feels rural and peaceful while still being located within biking and easy driving distance to many attractions. Many people bike on our road everyday to reach the beach, lake, or one of the many wineries located within a few miles of the house. We are a community of 13 people living on the property, in various small dwellings located throughout the 5 acres. The camping spot is located on the bottom edge of our property in a semi-secluded location. You will be located in our main garden, surrounded by our veggies and the best views of the canyon the property has to offer. While you might see/hear some of us walking around the property (particularly in the morning when we come down to feed the chickens and milk to goats!) the property has a very peaceful, relaxed vibe. Feel free to say hi to us, or stick to seclusion in the garden. You might hear some cars on the nearby road during rush hour, but by nighttime the canyon quiets down and provides an isolated feel, even though we aren't that far from town. The goat and chicken pens are located across the dirt driveway from the garden, so you will see/hear greetings from the animals when you arrive. We do ask that you stay on the lower half of the property, as people in the main house up the hill can get weary of people walking in and out of their private dwellings.
There are some great restaurants/wine tastings/ hikes nearby. We are 5 minutes from the quaint town of Arroyo Grande, and 15 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo. In Arroyo Grande, we recommend eating at Ember, Spoontrade, and Comfort, all farm-to-table restaurants that show off the abundance of good local produce in our area. If you're looking for a good local brewery or wine bar we recommend Figueroa Mountain Brewing in Arroyo Grande, or Tap-It, SLO Brew, The Station wine bar, or Barrel House in San Luis Obispo. SLO Brew also offers concerts most weekends. Some of our favorite wineries within a short drive include Edna Valley Vineyards, Talley, Baileyana, Wolff, and Claiborne and Churchill. There are an abundance of hiking opportunities in the area. For an easy but beautiful stroll we recommend the Bob Jones trail, a wide path that ends at Avila Beach. Another of our favorite activities is soaking in natural hot springs at Sycamore Springs resort, a 15-minute drive away. Make sure to get a reservation beforehand, they are often booked!
Just a reminder that though this is technically a cabin, it is still an indoor-outdoor camping experience. Most things are located outside, including the sink and shower, and the composting toilet is a bit of a walk down the hill. Even the cabin is not weather-tight, so if it is raining, you will get wet, inside and outside. We strongly recommended cancelling your reservation if it looks like it is going to rain. Luckily this doesn't happen often in our area, but this spring was a doozy!
*note* we have run out of firewood! If you would like to make a fire, please bring wood with you :)

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This place is a f****** gem. Get off reviewing reviews and book this place before someone else does. I thought we'd be sleeping in a car with access to water. This place is much more. You get your own private little garden with an outdoor shower? dreamy. also - a bed? Staying at this place ore like glamping than anything. Thank you, hosts - for your warmth and hospitality.
This is such a gorgeous spot in a truly unique intentional community. I highly recommend staying here and learning about the farm, they have such a cool thing going on. It's also really close to SLO and Pismo Beach, so there's lots to do nearby as well.
We had a great time at the Lavra! The location, amenities, and hospitality were all wonderful, and Kayou and Steve were amazing hosts. We would 10/10 recommend this to anyone looking to stay in a unique setting in the area!
Awesome experience! Love the mini cabin with the canyon view. And watching the sunset was perfect! The place is 10 mins away from downtown arroyo grande and its a nice place to stroll around. Kayou our host was responsive and she accomodated all of our questions. She even provided firewood that really helped us feel warm at night. Don't forget blankets during winter. Overall we enjoyed our stay! :) Thanks Kayou.
This place is awesome! I needed a place where my doggie could roam around, my mom could sleep on a bed and not freeze, and my manfriend could make a fire. We were provided with FREE firewood, a cute cabin with a bed and pillows, an outhouse with an awesome door handle, and a warm shower. What else could you want?! Beautiful location, cool community, and ideal for those wanting to go wine tasting. It's in between Pismo and San Luis Obispo and I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
We loved our stay here!! The property was beautiful with spectacular views. The cabin is really nice and comes with a bottom sheet and pillows (bring your own blankets as pillow cases), and electricity! The fire pit is awesome and there are multiple other seating areas around the garden. Super short drive into Arroyo Grande and lots of vineyards. The only thing that wasn’t 100% amazing was that the outdoor shower wasn’t working - which we had to find out through a series of troubleshooting. We love to camp and don’t need to shower every day by any means, but we were really excited for the outdoor shower. Other than that it was a above and beyond wonderful stay.
I needed a place to camp on my way from Joshua Tree to Oakland, and I was able to book same day with no issues. The site was a beautiful, peaceful garden where I could go feel safe while I camped alone. The cabin was adorable, but I actually opted to set up my tent on the porch in front, so that I could have one last tent night before I headed back to city life. Kayou was responsive and helpful, and I would happily go back next time I am in the area. I arrived too late to use the fire pit, but I sat and had my coffee in the morning, admired the garden flowers and veggies, and watched the sun come up over the hills. Great view, great spot. Highly recommend!
