The property was perfectly private and offered great amenities! Tons of room for people to sleep in the small cabin and also pitch a tent. There was a clean porta potty, sink, table and chairs. Jimbo was an awesome host who offered great hospitality

A great spot to stay near Joshua Tree! Very cute little cabin, and a really fun little spot. You can hear the highway from the site, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

The Desert Pensione is just the solitude I needed. Very off grid and completely unique space designed by Jimbo and Cheryl. It was truly a pleasure staying in this gem of a space and I hope to be back soon!

Really enjoyed our stay at Porte Cochere - it's a unique and artsy arrangement, with just the right amount of amenities to take some of the set-up work out of camping. The property was clean and ready for our arrival. The "bed shed" (as I named it) was not large, but we fit three people in using the platform for two and a single air mattress for the third person. We enjoyed having the storage shelf, side table, solar lighting/outlets and the sliding french doors. The sink/wash basin area was very convenient for cleaning up (ourselves and the dishes) and we hung potable shower bags on the large fence hooks that heated up really well with the desert day time heat. The porta potty is clean and close by. The owners are in the process of building a flush toilet for Porte Cochere and if it turns out as cute as the one constructed for The Penzione, it will be an added bonus. The fences that frame the site provide privacy and are a good wind break. The picnic table, wooden backed bench and campfire set-up/ring were all welcome spots to relax. We stretched a couple of light tarps to provide shade, hung our hammock and it felt like home. It's a quiet area and even with guests staying at the adjoining Pensione, we felt like we had a piece of the desert to ourselves. Cheryl and Jimbo were responsive and welcoming. They met us in town to guide us to the camp site and gave us a quick once over of how things worked. The property had a lot of personality and I would definitely go back. I would recommend going with a bigger group and renting both campsites. As many have described before, you are not far from the hwy but it is not an issue at all.

We loved staying at this gorgeous little camp! Cheryl and Jimbo were fantastic and friendly hosts and were helpful in making sure we arrived safely. Jimbo greeted us upon our arrival to show us around the camp. The views were beautiful, and the stargazing at night was stunning! This is a wonderful place to stay if you are hoping to explore Joshua Tree or if you want a cute place to get away.

If you're looking for a truly one-of-a-kind camping experience close to everything Joshua Tree has to offer, look no further than Cheryl and Jimbo's place. Their Hipcamp was the perfect base camp for all our desert adventures -- it was just ten minutes from grabbing coffee and breakfast, outdoor art galleries, and stores/boutiques in Joshua Tree proper. It was also roughly 20 minutes from the main entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. If you think that the little cabin might be too cold in the chilly desert winters, think again! The little cabin is well-insulated, so with the proper sleeping bag and blankets we were comfortable and warm all night long.
But the best part wasn't the property (which was incredible), it was our hosts! Cheryl and Jimbo are proactive and responsive, going above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. They even gave us excellent recommendations for local favorite hikes and restaurants. I am crossing my fingers that I get to stay with Cheryl and Jimbo again!

The Desert Pensione Joshua Tree
We met Cheryl at the meeting place and she took us to the place. She was very kind and explained about the property very well. The first day was very cold night, we couldn’t sleep well. The next morning we went to wallmart (only 10 min away) and bought sleeping bags for 20F. That works very well and 2nd night was great 👍 We could see beautiful stars at the night. We want to come back maybe in the summer!

The Desert Pensione Joshua Tree
This was a great location. We only stayed one night and we would suggest staying longer. It was cold but with preparation it was not bad. Spend the extra for the running water. Space is 7 feet by 14.5 feet so room for two queen air mattress. We had diesel heater and a 100amp AGM for our needs but they also have lights and enough power for air mattress blowup. Not enough for an entire night so make sure to bring flashlights. We were prepared for my husband Cpap machine with a pure sine wave inverter. So bring your battery pack for your electronics. Signal was great so there was entertainment for the kids (ages 2&5) after dark. We stopped to pick up pizza before our meeting and it was yummy. The location is easy enough to grab things before settling for the night.

We loved staying at this quaint spot right outside of Joshua Tree NP. Jimbo was flexible with our arrival time, greeted us and oriented us to the site, and we had everything we needed (water, bathroom, the small cabin was warmer than the outside which was nice for a freezing night!). Everything was clean, would definitely recommend!

Great spot for glamping! We slept comfortably in the Pensione. We enjoyed the privacy. Bathrooms were nice, even though the campers on the other side used our bathroom:(. Jimbo was very helpful and responded quickly to the matter or questions we had. There is a shower but did not use it as it had no hot water running. It comes from a tank. We would come back but expect to take a cold shower, which works well in the summer (not fall or winter time.). I loved having a bit of solar electricity at night to charge our phones. Overall experience we would come back as a step up from actual camping. You are six minutes away from Joshua Tree National Forest visitor center which is a plus. Very convenient location a few minutes from town.

This property was nothing short of amazing - Cheryl and Jimbo were very communicative and incredible hosts. The stargazing at night was definitely the highlight of our trip, and the campground is conveniently located to the main area of town (yet secluded enough to have a nice private camping experience). I cannot recommend this place enough!

Didn't get to meet Cheryl during our stay, but Jimbo was very kind and welcoming. There was 4 of us during the stay who hadn't quite explored joshua tree before, but Jimbo had some great recommendations for us to visit while we were there. The Desert Pension was very roomy and very cozy! Plenty of room for the 4 of us to lay out sleeping bags while also having extra room for our belongings. Overall, 10/10 experience highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to stay in Joshua Tree area.

Porte-Cochere in Joshua Tree
Great affordable and fun option in Joshua Tree. The site is amazingly located, just a 5 min drive from town and very close to the Joshua Tree entrance! Cheryl and Jimbo we super smooth to coordinate with and friendly. They gave us a couple good tips about the area and accessing the park. The site itself had great amenities for a campsite; BBQ, sink with potable water, trash can, broom, etc. Plus the little sleeping casita is adorable and functional. Would 100% recommend. As an FYI there is some light street noise from the highway but we found it more soothing than annoying.

This place is perfect in every way. Very private, o neighbors close by. An outdoor shower and a toilet that flushe. Solar powered Electricity in the enclosure. One 2 plug outlet and a light fixture on the wall. Perfect for inflating your air mattress and charging cell phones. Don’t bring your bbq, they have a full size Weber. There’s also a picnic table and a nice fire pit. Recommend bringing a fan if you staying in the summer. Room gets a little stuffy even with the French doors and windows open. Plenty of room for tents too on the property! Definitely will be back. 4 miles from JT National Park entrance and about 2 miles from Joshua Tree Saloon. Only negative thing about the place were the ants but they didn’treallt bother us. Oh and there were no mosquitoes, big plus! Thank you Doctor Jordan for recommending HipCamp.com.

This is a wonderfully appointed space, thoughtful and artful. We felt the beauty and solitude of the desert without traveling so far out of town. Our pop-up camper trailer found its perfect landing spot with every amenity we could have desired. I would love to return, this is the Joshua Tree flavor that is so special.

This was our first -- and certainly not our last -- trip to Joshua Tree, and it was a pleasure to stay at Cheryl and Jimbo campsite. It was the perfect little spot with such cute decor, and full of the necessities (shelter, water, firepit, etc.) as listed on Hipcamp while still feeling like a camping experience. This spot was super cute and well maintained. It was built with care and character and reclaimed materials which made it even more special. Having a running toilet and water and shower was just what was needed. There was a picnic table, bbq, running water, chairs, and there were gates for even more privacy. The hosts did mention that there wouldn't be any cars as we were located at a dead end, but there were some cars that ended up driving down the road and past us. I am mentioning this because I had been startled in the middle of the night. Not a big deal, just a FYI. Overall I would highly recommend the hosts and this spot.
