Specific Campsite Overview:
Excellent is a medium sized campsite for TENT CAMPING ONLY, able to accommodate up to 6 campers. This site can fit approximately 2 standard size camping tents. Excellent has amazing 360 degree views, easily accessible, and close to the Community BBQ/Fire Pit Area, Community Bathrooms, the Community Play Area "The Flat", and the Community Pond. NO PARKING AT SITE. This site allows pick up and drop off of gear, but parking is a short 1 minute walk away in our community parking. We have other sites with on site parking.
Overall Campground Overview:
We have 13 sites on approximately 3 very secluded acres, and the whole campground is a close walk to the beautiful charming East Village of Cambria! Over an acre is what we call The Flat, a large open area to run and play. The 13 campsites with picnic tables are located close to the community bathrooms, fire pit/BBQ area, pond, and open play area. All of our sites are a great place to wake up to a cup of coffee while you watch the sunrise. Our beautiful wildlife includes, turkeys, quail, hawks, ducks, frogs, lizards, turtles, deer, raccoons, CA Condors and much more. DO NOT TOUCH OR MESS WITH OUR WILDLIFE.
On The Flat there is a beautiful pond that you can swim in. The pond has a dock, a aerator to keep the water oxygenated, fish, frogs, plants and turtles. The pond was recently scraped, so it has not had the time to grow plants on the sides and bottom, so it is still churning up some clay and the water has not cleared up yet, but it’s just oxygenated rain water and some organic clay.
We have a very nice Community BBQ/fire pit area with seating, two restrooms and a double head shower room all a close walk from all sites. We DO NOT ALLOW any kind of fire/heat on any part of the property besides the designated BBQ/Fire pit areas and inside the cabin because of high fire risk in our town. Also, well, we want to promote a community type campground, where socializing and getting to know new fun people is encouraged! That is our favorite part aside from the beautiful nature! Get to know some new cool Hipcampers!!! Fire safety is our #1 rule alongside having a great time :-)
On one side of The Flat is our beautiful old growth Live Oak Grove, which is about as peaceful and magical as it gets, it has a tire swing that kids love, the other side is a amazing Old Growth Eucalyptus Grove with some of the largest trees in Slo County, trees 150'+ tall and up to 10' in diameter. This Eucalyptus area is open to explore, however it is used for my Tree Care business, where I store my equipment as well as wood and wood chips. This area is about the furthest from the campground area on the property along with my home.
There is a beautiful walking trail through the oak grove to downtown. If you are at the cabin, and looking in between the fire pit and the bathroom, that is the direction to the oak grove, where the tire swing is, and the path that goes downtown. Follow the old road. Once you take the path and get to the street, which is Wall St, take a right and you will go straight to downtown, or take a left and you will end up on Bridge St, which is a beautiful walk up a secluded road through the forest to the Cambria Cemetery.
The back of the property boarders a large ranch/nature preserve which is a dense Monterey Pine forest, and the front side of the property is the old village of Cambria. The property is elevated above town, giving the feel of being in the middle of the forest with total privacy, yet you are only a 5 minute walk to the village. The old village of Cambria has everything you could want on a vacation. We have True Earth Market, which is an organic health food/grocery store with a kitchen that makes a killer sandwich! Next to True Earth is our historic saloon Mozzis with pool tables, snooker table, karaoke, and the wildest crowd you've ever ran into! There are lots of shops to peruse including the world famous Linn's Pie Shop. Amazing restaurants, from old fashioned diners, to fine dining, including Cambria's famous Robin's Restaurant, and our favorite, Madeline's which is a 5 minute drive to the West Side of Town. Also a 5 minute walk will get you to Vyana Wellness Center, offering massage, yoga, and a variety of wellness classes. About a 10 minute walk will get you to Cambria's dog park. About a 12 minute walk will get you to Cambria's Gym One fitness club offering a weight room, cardio room, physical therapy, and a wide variety of classes. The beach is a 5 minute drive, 10 minute bike ride, and a 35-45 minute walk. Hearst Castle is a 12 minute drive. Salmon Creek Trail is a 30 minute drive, which is a absolutely amazing experience!

Awesome campsite! but no privacy...
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at The Flat. While it's a great little campsite with awesome amenities, I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I was staying with a group of people across multiple campsites. We didn't really enjoy our first night because of how crowded it was (all sites were booked except one).
- SUPER clean bathroom and shower area, and well lit too!
- every campsite comes with a table so we didn't use our camping chairs at all
- close to town but quiet as well (and yes, there's cell service!)
- cool and friendly host / was okay with us checking out a little late
- The 6 campsites are extremely close together. Maybe I should've looked at the pictures more, but there's really no privacy at all between sites. We were so close that our neighbors could be having pretty quiet conversations and we'd hear every word
- Some campsites have no shade (#6 I believe). We would've been pretty upset if we had that spot!
- There's a small 1-way road to get to the campsites, and some campers would park in the middle of it. It made it a little difficult to load/unload our car since we had to lug our stuff up the hill
Buddy was an amazing host, he made sure to make us feel at home. The place is trully a hidden gem. Right in the heart of downtown Cambria. Walking distance to all the shops. Hard to believe the place is there when First arrive to the address and you’re right off main st in Cambria. Highly recommended 👍🏽
It was excellent.
It was super easy. We camped at the site called Excellent. Enchanted was the site right newt to it which also was a good one. They all had their charm though. The kitchen is literally two grills. There’s two toilets, one with a sink. Everything was clean and open air. It was a sweet spot, I would definitely return. Quick walk to coffee and food too, which was a bonus.
Buddy was a great host and check-in was extremely easy. The campsites are definitely not as private as you would like, considering you are going camping to "get away". However, our campsite neighbors were amazing and we easily became friends through using the community area. I love that dogs are allowed and there were plenty around to play with and love on. The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located right next to our site. However, the height of the doors were pretty low and anyone can easily peak into them so even though a shower was available, I felt like there wasn't enough privacy. An easy fix that I would suggest for Buddy is to add a shower curtain to each of the stalls for extra privacy for his guests. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
This campsite was very well kept with a good shower/bathroom set up. Everything you need is already there like dish soap, drinking water, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and sponges. Cambria was really fun to explore - I recommend going to see the elephant seals nearby! Each site has their own picnic tables and I felt there was plenty of room to practice social distancing.
Pricey, but really nice.
It was a nice campsite. All the lots were pretty close together which made the experience a lot less private than I'd imagined, but everyone staying there was super nice so it didn't matter. I would say that it's pretty expensive for what it was, but Cambria isn't exactly known for it's value for money. Overall a good stay.
Nice place, clean, lots of people
Buddy’s place is awesome. Bathrooms are very well built and clean. The shower was hot and very nice - rustic outdoor shower felt great after camping. This site is not very private and very close to the other campers. I could hear snoring on both sides. People were friendly though and as a family, social place it’s really neat what buddy has built here. If you’re looking for solitude or privacy don’t expect that here. Some of the campsites looked more private than others. This weekend was super full so maybe during the week or other timeS it is less crowded. People were respectful though and not loud past dark,
