The land has been through some hard times in the past decade or so with the infestation of bark beetles with the combination of an over population of tress and an extreme 5 year draught that let the beetles wreck havoc through the land.  Now its up to us campers, travelers and lovers of the forest to show some love to the land and clear the fallen trees to let this land breathe and grow lush and thriving on its way to a healthy old growth forest.

The Canopy - Sierras
The Canopy is honestly one of the most epic campsites I've had the pleasure of staying at. With endless panoramic mountain views and hardly a soul around for miles, you'll feel on top of the world at this site. Jeff & Matt have a great shaded table area and fire pit set up for campers (though we did visit during a fire ban), as well as incredibly clean outhouse and loads of room to wander. Come prepared with everything you'll need (food, water, etc) because you're a little haul away from the nearest shops - which, in my opinion, just adds to the experience. Also, just be aware that the road up to the site is what looks like a logging road - just dirt and rather bumpy - so it would be slightly more difficult to manage with less capable cars. I truly can't rave enough about the secluded beauty of this site - it's a must for your visit to Sierra Nat'l Forest / the surrounding areas!

This site was more Jan we could have expected. The view of the city lights are unparallel and the star gazing was magic...we saw about 10 shooting stars! The site was cleaned of rocks and debris and there were plenty of flat surfaces to park our truck (we slept in the bed). The out house was clean and looked to be newly built, no foul smells inside. Pathways around camp were all marked with solar lights. All and all and epic night and can’t wait to return for the views and stars!

This place is killer. Go! The hosts have clearly put a lot of creative thought and hard work in making this place utterly unique and beautiful. We came here on a last minute whim because another campsite got smoked-out during the Ferguson/Yosemite fires, but we were so glad we came and, frankly, blown away by the beauty and fun vibe of this place. When you drive up, it’s pretty unassuming, but nice - well taken care for; cleanest outhouse in the world; great view of the Sierras; secluded and quiet, but near the local village and lakes. Then night comes and this place transforms into a starry wonderland. Fresno lights up in the distance, which occupies half of your view in the best way (think teenagers making out in cars in 80s movies). The hosts have scattered the place with these tiny, solar powered lights that are just bright enough to illuminate the place in a moony hue, but not distracting, nor do they cause any light pollution, and it makes it all pretty magical. In short: go, it’s so worth it. We cannot wait to come back.

Beautiful setting overlooking the Sierras and Fresno! The site is still very primative, but they are working on adding amenities. We will definitely be staying here again!

My son and I enjoyed the site. There was plenty of firewood, and be sure to bring saws and axes to break it up. No sedans or minivans for sure, as 4x4 is necessary. My wrangler easily made it but I did have to go into 4x4. The view is really nice, and the site is private. I never actually saw the hosts which is fine since the directions were easily followed. The site is primitive so bring what you will need except for the wood of course.
