Micheal opened his campground recently and he still works on his project to make it better.
The booked campsite was easily accessible by car. Kitchen and bathroom have hot water. He also gave me good tips what to do around there. I had a very quiet night there.
It was a great stay.
Staying at the Birdline was a vacation. It reminded me of how comfortable the simple life can be.
I stayed at site 4. I enjoyed its open view to the west. The Birdline is essentially surrounded by the desert, so finding a good view isn't hard.
The sun was a constant, but the wind was not. I had one day that was dead calm and another with 18mph winds. If it’s forecasted for wind, make sure you’ve got a rainfly (blowing sand) and guy lines.
The communal space offered a welcome reprieve from the wind and sun. A few of the things I appreciated about the communal space are it’s minimalistic white rooms, ample cooking space with a sink, available desks where I could get a little work done, and the porch, which is perfect for a cup of tea, out of the wind.
The host Micheal is a man of intention with a clear vision. The Birdline is not just a place to camp, it’s a concept.
My siblings and I had a great time at Hipcamp, much in part to our host, Michael. Just as we were turning in to camp, we made a wrong turn and ended up getting stuck in some sand. Michael drove up to us within 5 minutes and towed us out of our ditch. Once we got to camp, we settled in immediately and fell in love with the space. The lot is very quiet and private, and an easy 20 minutes into town, 25 minutes from the Joshua Tree National Park Entrance.
We had a great time at the Birdline, and Michael even offered to build us a fire each night. The kitchen was excellent, and having a warm bath was a huge relief. I highly recommend the Birdline and look forward to going back.
Great camping spot near joshua tree
I booked at The Bird Line as an opportunity to show a close friend of mine the desert before she made an out of state move. I chose The Bird Line because of its close access to Joshua Tree, the location's sublime scenery (it turns out, that The Bird Line is surrounded by BLM lands against the backdrop of the Cleghorn Lake and Sheephole Valley Wilderness), and the space's eclectic and minimalistic design. There are such fun things to look at in the shelter, including a mostly working vintage typewriter and a hanging installation of hand carved wooden birds. Micheal, The Bird Line host, was extremely accommodating and friendly. He had a wealth of knowledge about current events in the High Desert and nearby hiking trails. My friend and I ended up attending a two day show at The Palms Bar and Restaurant, that featured a phenomenal line up of musicians and bands harkening from across the West Coast. Overall, great accommodations and inviting environment. I will most definitely booking another stay.
Perfect desert escape
The Bird Line has quickly become my go-to destination when I need to escape city life and find peace in the desert.
Michael is an exceptional host. He is at once both warm/welcoming and respectful of my space/time. He promotly answered all my questions pre-arrival, and he had great recommendations for things to do in Wonder Valley / Joshua Tree.
The Bird Line itself is one of the most beautiful spaces I’ve been in. Modern rustic desert vibes. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. It is accessible in its simplicity and thoughtfully refined in its design. The lighting is warm and glowing, especially at night. The lighting fixtures are art!
Thank you for creating this space!
My wife and I booked two nights at The Bird Line on short notice for New Year’s Eve just looking for a convenient place to stay and found so much more than that.
The land is beautiful, stars were amazing, and the people we met were super friendly. The campsites here are placed a good distance apart from each other which is great for privacy, and the communal gathering space is nicely designed and very welcoming if you’re looking for a bit of company.
The Bird Line is also pretty close to the main road which is convenient but there is a bit of noise from the cars that drive by (sound travels well in the desert, especially on cold nights). The traffic died down pretty early though, and we were left with just the occasional howl from a coyote.
Overall, our stay here was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a place in the area.
More than a campsite
Another beautiful stay at the Bird Line. If you’re considering a trip to Joshua Tree or the surrounding area, be sure to book at the Bird Line. It’s such a peaceful, comfortable space. It’s more than just a campsite. The common space inside is well designed and offers quiet reprieve.
Exactly what we needed!
For my partner’s birthday celebration, we stayed at thebirdline in 29Palms and she was able to start her second musical, read, ponder and do some nothing. We elevated with the birds. The space is so vintage, with a lounge area for relaxing, an indoor bathroom and outdoor shower. We both took a shower in the desert overlooking the sunset behind big mountains. There were no neighbors for miles or WiFi. It was so quiet. At night we only heard wind and only saw stars, and of course, the host Micheal was nothing short of amazing! He made sure that we felt comfortable, made himself available when needed, and kept the place exceptionally clean. This is an ideal place for anyone that’s looking for a nice and quiet area to camp, or retreat, while having very clean amenities and indoor work/reading spaces available. P.S. the hammocks are to die for! 🌻🦗🐜🌵🌬✨🌻
Clean open environment, easy campin
The birdline and 29 Palms is a really cool spot.
Michael has managed to make a very clean and visually pleasing space in the middle of the desert. There's a communal area with kitchen, areas to sit, even an available bath! Plenty of tent space, or small camper. Heated shower, real bathrooms. There's a dedicated room for hammocks! From my own experience, the stars are highly visible every night. Joshua Tree isn't very far away, but if you don't visit The Palms restaurant before you leave - you're doing a great disservice to your tastebuds.
Overall I highly recommend - particularly if you prefer easy camping.
