Our favorite hipcamp
Chris' PlatForm of Pleasure was insanely nice. From the moment we booked, to the moment we checked out, Chris was SUPER attentive with us, making sure we found the site, were checked in, and looked after. The site itself is unrivaled. With sweeping views of the Yuba river, and only a short drive from downtown Nevada City + tons of swimming holes, I can't say my wife and I have found a better hipcamp yet. My only regret in writing this glowing review is that this place will for sure become a hit with the hipcamp community and be booked out solid next time we want to go!
-the cabin itself is amazing - super well insulated, has a queen sized bed and amazing views out panoramic windows towards the river
-the platform/deck has ample seating and reclining sun chairs for lounging + a TON of space
-there are a couple of firepits + a bbq to cook off of + a really well stocked cabinet w/ bugspray, a heater, books, and more.
-chris let us use the shower in his basement, which was awesome after two days in the heat
-the pictures DO NOT do it justice...the view from the deck is amazing for both sunsets and sunrises
-great natural light throughout the space - even though it's nestled in the forest, there is a ton of natural light
-super private - the platform is obscured from the road and the main house - super private and so quiet...we heard so many birds and animals nearby
Blissful silence and beauty
If you want to completely disconnect and soak in the peace of nature, this is the place to go. Easy to get to outside of Nevada City, the setting is a 180 degree+ spectacle of distant mountains, painted sunrises and sunsets and complete silence but for the life of the local winged and 4 legged residents of earth and sky. At night, the stars are like gems.
Chris has provided a beautiful and pristine setup with firepit, multiple seating options and the sweet room- which would definitely be a lovely place to share if you want to be inside. I used the platform for my tent and dog, so it was my own interpretation of "pleasure". Take binoculars!
It is even better than the photos on the listing!
And I was not familiar with Nevada City- which is also a great town to wander.
Fantastic views, privacy & host!
Glamping at it's finest. Our stay here was so much more than we expected! Massive campsite with tons of privacy, and stunning sunset views. Our group of 8 pitched 4 tents on flat well-maintained ground and one couple stayed in the Tiny House, which was excellent. Ask Chris about that as an option! Chris is a true local to the area and will hook you up with everything from private swimming holes to ice chests and recommendations for food. It's 11 minutes into "downtown" Nevada City. A note on the bathroom: It's about a 2-minute walk down a road/trail, and is attached to the main house. Upside: its a real bathroom/shower/toilet in the basement with entrance from the outside. Downside: it's a bit of a long walk when ya gotta go. Driving took right around 4hrs from San Francisco, if that's where you'll be coming from.
An experience not to be missed!
An incredible getaway, Platform of Pleasure is absolutely stunning! We arrived unexpectedly late Friday from the SF Bay Area and were met with the warmest hospitality - Chris is truly the kindest and most attentive host! He generously gave us a walking tour, showing us all the amenities of the site and offered local tips of the loveliest river spots and weekend downtown festivities. Heart shaped river rocks (one >140 lbs!) thoughtfully decorated the site, there was so much creatively fun detail that contributed to making the space (and weekend) so special! For those astronomers/stargazers, being situated just outside of town, the night sky was phenomenal - shooting stars stretched across the entire horizon! And for day-dreamers, we awoke to a morning soft sunrise with a vista that extended for miles across rolling river laden valleys, the sounds of which could be heard from the comfort of the site's warm, cozy, clean, bright, thoughtfully designed, and meticulously hand-crafted cottage!
Having had Chris as our host and the site to enjoy, completely framed our summer weekend trip! An experience not to be missed - at any season!
Magical dream in the yuba woods
Chris' little cabin is incredible. My husband and I were blown away by the majestic view, how clean and comfortable the cabin was, and the quality of this spot overall. It is hands down the best hipcamp we have ever stayed at, and honestly better than many AirBnBs.
Pros: you don't need to bring any camping equipment, really. The best is comfortable and the screened windows on all sides of the cabin keep it cool. There's a small propane grill (so bring dishware but not cookware), water jugs set up for you, and a table and chairs. Amazing.
Cons: we had a little bit of a gnat problem, they were very swarmy in the morning and until the sun went down. The bathroom is a bit of a hike from the cabin, so also good to keep in mind for after hours bathroom needs.
But honestly the pros SO greatly outweigh the two very small cons. This place is stunning, clean, and comfortable - we felt like we stumbled upon a magical secret, and waking up to the sunrise over the yuba valley has been my favorite summer memory yet. Chris is also an incredible, thoughtful host who genuinely wants to share everything beautiful and magical about his place with his guests! He's so cool.
We had a wonderful experience staying at Terra Sol. Chris is a phenomenal host - very responsive to questions before our trip, he greeted us upon arrival, and generously offered to help bring our gear to the site with on his 4-wheeler. He gave us great directions to fabulous swimming holes and genuinely wanted to make sure we were enjoying the site and the area. The site itself is spectacular! There was plenty of room to place our tent on a flat surface as well as hang a sleeping hammock. The deck was a super spot to view sunsets, sunrises, and stargazing from two comfortable chaise lounges. The views are outstanding. We experienced quiet, peaceful nights, days and mornings, just what I had been looking for. Can't wait to go back!
What a view!
The platform is really great. Chris was amazing -- there to greet us and show us all of the amenities available on the property. He was very helpful and very responsive before and during the stay. The view is pretty unbeatable around the Nevada City area. Top notch sunset/sunrise.
Such a gem!
This place is an absolute gem! Chris was so incredibly warm and welcoming- meeting us late Friday night when we arrived to help us with our luggage, and to show us around his amazing property. Chris also gave us great recommendations of where to go on the river. The spot is so private and peaceful- we never wanted to leave!
We had an amazing stay with Chris. His place is private, with a fantastic view. We stayed in the little house and it was really comfortable. Chris was a great host, and had some great tips about the area and nearby river. I can't recommend this place enough!
