Backpacking meets Car Camping
We had a group of 10 people, aged 7 to 50 years old. We had a blast! We read the reviews and spoke to Eric, so we knew what to expect and what to pack. The best way I can describe it is- you have the convenience of car camping but the seclusion of backpacking. We stayed in a meadow near the creek, got to catch crawdads, newts, tadpoles and frogs. Friendly cows came to visit. We panned for gold, the kids went up and down the creek with little supervision (Not deep). We brought in our own water and also had a water filter in case we ran out. One member of our group brought a “Luggable Loo” with biodegradable bags so we could bury our waste. Near the creek it was about 20 degrees colder than in Somerset, in the middle of the night and early morning it got very chilly. We all had thermals, pajamas, wool socks and mummy bags. In the morning we had Jackets, beanies and gloves on top of the pjs. Around 11:00 it would warm up and we would change into shorts and tank tops. The area is very shaded, and the ground is moist. Make sure to bring a tarp for under your tent. The road down to the creek is rough, I would suggest an SUV or truck. Campsites are not clearly marked, so similar to backpacking. Eric was very friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful spot and if you are prepared for it, you will love it.

Nature at its best
What a gem spot. We arrived on a Monday and were greeted by Kelly and her husband. Super nice people who are not far away from the spot if you need any help. They drove with us down to the creek to show us the spot. (you better have a SUV with high clearance... Very bumpy on some spots) the camping site is beautiful and we were alone for the next 3 nights.... Sleeping under the stars while listening to the creek is just the best. People camping here do care to keep it clean, so please do the same. We found some gold in the creek and had so much fun during our stay. All I wanted is a retreat without cell phone reception and total calm.. We got it!! The second day we had a visit from some friendly cows with their bells around the neck and beeing from Switzerland myself I just felt like being on top of the mountains there where the cows spend the summers. This spot is a gem. It's totally OK to spend some days without toilets and showers. The creek is refreshing and no harm can be made if you use that special soap for wilderness camping. Be prepared to be covered in fine, typical for the regions, reddish dust especially when you have dogs playing around lol.. We just spent 4 amazing relaxing days in total calm and gorgeous nature around us (also we were alone the whole time). I can only recommend Eric's place if you want to be off the grid for some days. It is as described in the middle of nowhere. Lexe Alexandra

We booked our trip here because the photos made the location look so enchanted. It did not disappoint. Eric is a personable and phenomenal host who went out of his way to make sure we were well accommodated and taken care of. I’m already looking forward to my next stay here.

Peaceful Retreat
Amazing break from civilization. Great location with many hidden gems. Highly reccomend the Gold Panning, it was a success for us! Eric was a great host and we couldn't ask for anything more. My girlfriend would have loved a bathroom, but what are you gonna do?
