If you’re reading this message, we are still open for business while the world aims to eliminate the COVID. While we all want to do our part to obey the recommendations of social distancing to protect all human life, we believe social distancing does not mean you have to be cooped up in your home. You can be equally responsible of distancing yourself by taking a journey deep into nature where you can turn off your televisions, put the smart phones down, find some rest in a hammock and connect with your loved ones. Life does not have to stop because social events are cancelled. Love is not cancelled. Laughter is not cancelled. Nature is not cancelled. God is not cancelled. And Stone Mountain Retreat is most definitely NOT cancelled. NOTE: As of 6/8/20, we have been booking up very fast as a retreat center - anywhere between 5-10 bookings daily. We highly recommend you click on the ‘CHECK FOR AVAILABILITY’ button to verify openings for your desired dates vs. messaging us and waiting for us to get back to you. We spend a great deal of time stewarding the land for all to enjoy, and you may not hear back immediately until the evening when we come in. The same applies for questions. We have provided many details in our listing to help answer your questions. Happy booking :) Before we give you all the warm and fuzzy details of our beautiful 200-acre land that offers you so much more than just a campsite, we wanted to clearly communicate that we are a space of relaxation and connection. If you are looking for a space that endorses partying, we respectfully want you to know that this is not that kind of glamping destination :) However, if you’re looking for some good energy and transformation, you have found the right place. Pure medicine is the language of our mountain. Each site’s guests can mountain bike, run and/or hike to the top of the mountain which gives you panoramic views of the central coast. It’s a special space that we have named SOARING EAGLE. Once you’ve reached its location, feel free to use the space for yoga, meditation, or setting up some tree hammocks and taking an afternoon nap prior to watching the sun set and cast a mirage of pinks, oranges and red across the mountains and coastal beaches. DO YOU LIKE STARGAZING?  Look up. As night falls, you’ll find yourself relaxing, and watching the stars. Light pollution is absent, and there is every opportunity to catch a falling star and make a wish :) WILDLIFE IS CALLING YOU: As a guest, you’ll get to experience many of the friendly animals on the property - deer, foxes, wild turkey, lizards, and bird watching – we see many hawks, blue jays, hummingbirds, swallows, woodpeckers, robins, finches, and owls. The property offers you every opportunity to connect with God, self, and loved ones.   “The most important and fulfilling work we as humans can do on this planet at this time is to reconnect to ourselves, to one another, and to the natural world.” And so in closing, we welcome you to come and experience the magic of Stone Mountain Retreat. We loved our time at this campsite. We were not expecting it to be so well equipped, which was a nice surprise as we had come with the bare minimum of cooking supplies. Our four and two year olds had a great time gathering rocks, sticks, etc. The site is very private and has the cleanest port a potty I have ever used.

Stone Mountain Retreat was everything we imagined it would be. The property itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It is very secluded (three miles down a dirt road) and the sites are big. There is no cell service, so be sure to look at the directions ahead of time. As for each individual site, you can truly tell that the owners have put their heart and soul into this place. We were at site #5. The tent was big and there was a king and queen bed inside which were both very comfy. There was a large picnic table, outdoor camping shower, propane firepit, and charcoal grill. If you follow the road up the mountain, there is a wonderful hike on the property. We hiked up to the "eagles nest" to watch the sunset and it was truly magical. HIGHLY recommended. We did not have a chance to say hi to the owners because we had to leave early for our next day of backpacking, but did see them walking around in the morning and got a friendly wave.

Our only recommendation for improvement is regarding the propane fire pit. You are required to bring your own 20lb tank of propane to use the fire pits. As we were car camping multiple days up the coast from South Bay Area to Big Sur, we did not feel comfortable driving around with a tank of propane in our car in an already fire-prone area. Maybe an option for paying extra nightly to use propane or renting a tank on site would be helpful!

All in all- the property is magical and this was an amazing night. We wished we could have had more time to stay longer!

Response from Stone Mountain Retreat, the Host, on July 11th, 2020

Thank you so much for the warm review Michelle. So happy you enjoyed your time here on our mountain. In response to your propane tank insights, we are now looking at options with our local propane company to see if we could offer tanks up for rent - much like what you see at Home Depot. It may take a little bit, but we have it down as an action to see if we can accommodate this request. God bless!

The site was a very nice clearing king the canyon tucked away from the hustle of the city. If your goal is to unplug and get away from it all this is the place. There is good accomidations including a power strip for charging your camera to take all of the pictures you will want to remember the beauty. The only thing that you may want to think about during the summer months is a good amount of bug spray/ citranilla candles due to the large amount of mosquitoes and nats which love to hunt during dusk and dawn. We really enjoyed the host who were there to answer any questions we had and were very accommodating

Chad has a very nice area set up on his property; really unique canyon and landscape, and lots of animals to see! We appreciated his willingness to help us with anything we may have needed. We look forward to seeing what Chad has in store for the land in the future!

Copaiba was amazing! We absolutely loved the Yurt and the whole site set up. Chad was extremely helpful from the start of contact with setting up accommodations for our group and answering all my questions about the site and site space. The downer was we couldn’t have a campfire, but he made that a point from the beginning and in the site detail. We made the choice to book the site anyways. :) Oh and the yellow jacket season was in, so be mindful of late summer and fall camping, because that’s when they come out. There is also an amazing hiking trail that takes you up to the sunset ! It was beautiful!!!!! we would love to book this place again in the future!!

My wife and I had to cancel our Big Sur plans due to weather. We booked with Chad last minute and the spot was everything we hoped it would be. My wife and I have lived in the area for 8 years, but this area of Avila was so different than what we are used to. It’s super lush and overgrown. It reminded me of the area I grew up in the south. The only thing I will say is that you should plan your route beforehand. Service is spotty and the it’s easy to miss the road to get out there.
