We loved our time at this campsite. We were not expecting it to be so well equipped, which was a nice surprise as we had come with the bare minimum of cooking supplies. Our four and two year olds had a great time gathering rocks, sticks, etc. The site is very private and has the cleanest port a potty I have ever used.
Stone Mountain Retreat was everything we imagined it would be. The property itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It is very secluded (three miles down a dirt road) and the sites are big. There is no cell service, so be sure to look at the directions ahead of time. As for each individual site, you can truly tell that the owners have put their heart and soul into this place. We were at site #5. The tent was big and there was a king and queen bed inside which were both very comfy. There was a large picnic table, outdoor camping shower, propane firepit, and charcoal grill. If you follow the road up the mountain, there is a wonderful hike on the property. We hiked up to the "eagles nest" to watch the sunset and it was truly magical. HIGHLY recommended. We did not have a chance to say hi to the owners because we had to leave early for our next day of backpacking, but did see them walking around in the morning and got a friendly wave.
Our only recommendation for improvement is regarding the propane fire pit. You are required to bring your own 20lb tank of propane to use the fire pits. As we were car camping multiple days up the coast from South Bay Area to Big Sur, we did not feel comfortable driving around with a tank of propane in our car in an already fire-prone area. Maybe an option for paying extra nightly to use propane or renting a tank on site would be helpful!
All in all- the property is magical and this was an amazing night. We wished we could have had more time to stay longer!
The site was a very nice clearing king the canyon tucked away from the hustle of the city. If your goal is to unplug and get away from it all this is the place. There is good accomidations including a power strip for charging your camera to take all of the pictures you will want to remember the beauty. The only thing that you may want to think about during the summer months is a good amount of bug spray/ citranilla candles due to the large amount of mosquitoes and nats which love to hunt during dusk and dawn. We really enjoyed the host who were there to answer any questions we had and were very accommodating
Wonderful hosts! The property is amazing. Definitely some breathtaking views. I would recommend it to anyone and would also go back.
Chad has a very nice area set up on his property; really unique canyon and landscape, and lots of animals to see! We appreciated his willingness to help us with anything we may have needed. We look forward to seeing what Chad has in store for the land in the future!
Copaiba was amazing! We absolutely loved the Yurt and the whole site set up. Chad was extremely helpful from the start of contact with setting up accommodations for our group and answering all my questions about the site and site space. The downer was we couldn’t have a campfire, but he made that a point from the beginning and in the site detail. We made the choice to book the site anyways. :) Oh and the yellow jacket season was in, so be mindful of late summer and fall camping, because that’s when they come out. There is also an amazing hiking trail that takes you up to the sunset ! It was beautiful!!!!! we would love to book this place again in the future!!
Really amazing retreat space - it was beautifully set up, Chad (the host) was extremely welcoming, and there’s a phenomenal mountain vista point with a hammock set up - pure paradise :)
My wife and I had to cancel our Big Sur plans due to weather. We booked with Chad last minute and the spot was everything we hoped it would be. My wife and I have lived in the area for 8 years, but this area of Avila was so different than what we are used to. It’s super lush and overgrown. It reminded me of the area I grew up in the south. The only thing I will say is that you should plan your route beforehand. Service is spotty and the it’s easy to miss the road to get out there.

Thank you so much for the warm review Michelle. So happy you enjoyed your time here on our mountain. In response to your propane tank insights, we are now looking at options with our local propane company to see if we could offer tanks up for rent - much like what you see at Home Depot. It may take a little bit, but we have it down as an action to see if we can accommodate this request. God bless!
