Nansea and Chris were truly warm and welcoming hosts. Their property is above and beyond lovely. The communal cooking/washing/restroom area felt like a second home. They recommended wonderful day trips and provided directions to the lake, good hikes, and food. I would come back to this place for so many reasons, but the two I loved the bes were the hosts, and the light that changes throughout the valley all day long....absolutely breathless. Thank you both for providing access to such a special place.
Nansea and Chris's place was really nice! We camped on a wooden platform in their apple orchard, which had a great view of the neighboring mountain. Their house is quite close to Lake Mendocino as well. Nansea and Chris are super friendly and welcoming, and they love dogs! A note: potable water is available, but it doesn't taste very good so the hosts advised us to bring our own.
We stayed in the apple orchard at Stellar Oaks and had a wonderful time! Nansea & Chris were very friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The outdoor kitchen & dining area had a big table, a grill/griddle/burner, and a minifridge, which made cooking as a group really easy. From our tents there was a lovely view of the hills beyond the property, and the lake was a short drive away. We'd definitely go back again!
Nansea’s campground was great. My group of 6 were placed in her orchard under the apple trees. It was a beautiful place to wake up and then later watch the stars. The bathroom was clean and the outdoor kitchen space was nice and accessible. Since we had three tents we decided against putting tents on the raised platform. But in that case we had no level campsites. All of our tents were on some sort of gradual incline. Nothing too terrible.
The trees offered great shade during the day but the lake is where we went for a relaxing float and sun soak.
Would definitely recommend
Great location to camp out. We set up the tent in the apple orchard and Nansea was very helpful with organizing, directions, and local info. Clean toilet.
A couple of tips:
- the last 3 miles to the site was unpaved road. had to drive very slow cuz mine is not a 4x4/AWD.
- the campfire may or may not be used because of fire safety. Keep this in mind.
- the common area actually has a stove, grill griddle etc and some minimal utensils. We didn't need to take our butane camp stove.
Nansea was quick to respond to my inquiries and welcomed me on arrival. Knowing I had come from far away, she pleasantly surprised me by having a comfy mattress and canopy set up over the tent platform so that I didn't need to set up my own tent. I camped in Site 2, the Garden, and which is across the driveway from the house. The tent platform feels somewhat private as a bamboo fence is on the house-side of the platform, but the site is quite close to typical comings and goings of a house. Although I didn't see it in the listing, Nansea prefers guests bring their own water.
Nansea has provided a couple of different areas for camping on her property so you get to choose which area you get to stay in. She has one in her apple orchard under the trees on a platform. If you opt for the ground here, you'll be on a slight incline. The second camping spot is on a more primitive piece of land farther away from the main house. There's some beautiful tree coverings out there too. You could probably comfortably fit 3 to 4 tents in this field. Only 1 or 2 would fit under the tree covering though. Then the third option would be a platform in the garden area to the side of the main house. I believe this is used more for open-air sleeping on a mat. It's more on the semi-private side with a bamboo fence separating you from the comings and goings of the property. Then there's a communal cooking area + table. Cooking together is encouraged here, the rest of the property is pretty grassy so this is the best location to do it too. Nansea was so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a camping spot near Lake Mendocino!
