Nice site, off in the woods with beautiful views, fire pit with cooking grill over the top, plenty of wood for our fires. The owner recommended the most BEAUTIFUL hike with gorgeous waterfalls called Lewis Creek National Scenic Trail (check it out on AllTrails.com as well as a day at Bass Lake where we rented jet skis, or you can fish, boat, swim, shop. Additionally we had an easy drive in to Yosemite Valley where we hiked the entire day and returned to camp that night for dinner. We had the best weekend!

The camp seems new-- clean and well thought out. The fire pit and cooking grate as well as the picnic table are all brand new and clean. There was a lot of wood set aside for fires. We had no problem getting there using GPS and had the camp to ourselves the first night. You can't see the road from the camp, it is charming (lots of trees and wildlife) and feels isolated. It is however an expensive option for a couple-- would be better for groups who split the cost ($75 a night versus $12-20 at some camps in Yosemite). Would be a fun option to rent all of the 5 sites for a weekend with friends. However, it is over an hour drive to Yosemite Valley, which is perfect if you camp here on your way to or back from spending time at the park but it isn't an ideal base camp for a lot of back and forth. All in all a really nice/private spot that i would go back to and recommend to others.

Old Yosemite Basecamp is very much a gateway to the national park from which it gets its name. Whether you’re spending a night under the stars in preparation for a trip to the Valley or weaning yourself off of the great outdoors after a long weekend in Yosemite, there’s plenty to do/see/touch/smell around Oakhurst to get you (or keep you) in that outside state-of-mind. You can pitch a tent or two at one of five unique sites complete with fire rings and picnic tables, then take a short drive to any number of hikes. If you’re looking for a golden California sunset, there’s hardly anything this place does better. And did I mention the stargazing? It’s no doubt that a little bit of that Yosemite Magic overflows right into Old Yosemite Basecamp.

Prime views of the sunset from site #4. Views in every direction! If the weather calls for clear skies, ditch the rain fly and sleep under the stars. The sky is wide open out here so there's plenty of stargazing to be had.

Loved this site! Stayed here with a small group of girls for a camping trip to Yosemite and it was wonderful. We showed up and there was a perfectly clean set up for us- lots of space for tents with a full fire pit and picnic table. Site next to us was empty so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Only issue we had was trying to get up the driveway- I have a small SUV that was not 4 wheel drive and it did not make it up so we had to carry our stuff up.

What an incredible little gem! We stayed at camp site 5 and were the only ones there. I would highly recommend this site, close to the big granite boulders. Just about 1.5 hours from Yosemite Valley and about 20 mins from Bass Lake. Felt like a total getaway!

The camp was wonderful. Clean, spacious, feels secluded, and has an amazing view of the stars at night.

One thing that I will emphasize is the need for a 4X4 vehicle if you want to get up to camp 1. You could probably make it without 4X4 but it is definitely a little more of a challenge. Either way, walking up to camp from the entrance isn't hard.

Overall, great experience!

We booked campsite #2 last minute and were happy that the vibe was very chill. I'd say campsite #3 looked the best. It has trees. #2 was basically a pull out, but totally adequate. I would stay there again. We could see (and be seen by) two other groups up the hill. The heat was insane between 10-6pm late in July. We escaped to Bass Lake and Willow Creek.
