For those of you who would really like to get back to nature, we have available "hike in" camping spots.  You will park your car near the main house and walk to your spot with all your stuff.  It should be a five minute hike or so.  There will be no amenities for you at your hike in spot; you will need to create your own temporary living scene.  We do have various community camping supplies for people to borrow/use however.  Things like camp stoves, chairs, frisbees, and a little assorted cooking gear.  If you would prefer a regular spot where you can drive up to a picnic table, then please book one of our fancier, improved sites from our other listing.

- Get directions at the main house or follow the signs if no one is home.

- A full bath house with a flush toilet and hot shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house.

- There are miles of trails to hike or to ride dirt bikes/mountain bikes on. There is a marked walkable loop around the property that will take about 1 hr 30 min.

- Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item.

More about the property:

I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest.

10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village.

We are marijuana friendly!!

4 of us plus our dog had a great experience camping at Cosmo's! The views on the property are beautiful, and we enjoyed hiking around the property as well since it is so large. There are lots of options if you chose hike in camping, which we did since the regular sites with picnic tables were all booked. We still camped close to where our car was, but there are options to be more off the grid too. The bathhouse with toilet/shower/sink was able to be used by all and there was potable water outside the main. Cosmo greeted us and gave us lots of options. We chose a space above the meadow that he was hoping to turn into "Art Camp," and we improved the site a little bit and founded art camp! Some of the property and sites are still a work in progress, but there is a lot of interesting stuff happening here and lots of potential. Took a drive to Mendocino, about 35 minutes away one day and there are also great redwood hikes in the area. Thank you!

We loved this place. Plenty of campsites but they are far apart enough so that you don’t hear your neighbors. Very serene and beautiful views. The directions could be better, maybe provide the entrance pinpoint on Google Maps. Outhouse was available as well as drinking water.

Cosmo is a very friendly, chill host. He made us feel very safe and welcome. His property is beautiful, and the location is great- right between the coast and Andersen Valley- perfect as a base camp for exploring Northern California. Flushing toilets, hot shower, and drinking water, too! The dirt roads that lead down to his camp are a little rough, but my ‘02 Honda Accord was able to drive up and down on them without a problem.

Note: The google map directions and gps coordinates on his Hipcamp page will NOT take you to his property. Before you head to his camp, make sure you plan your travels ahead of time and give Cosmo a call for specific directions. Cell phone reception in the area is spotty, but does exist in some spots.

All in all- this was a great place for myself and three friends to camp out for the weekend. I would love to come back with a group, my partner, or even by myself.

The camp is in a beautiful area of the state (very remote and off the beaten path) and the host friendly, but we didn't have a great experience. Cosmo greeted us at the entrance and was eager to show us around the property, noting that the campground is still a work in progress. He cans his own tuna which was delicious. We hadn't secured a specific site, so we had to pick from one of the hike in ones, which were not very established. That was ok with us, but we ended up having to clear some poison oak from the camping spot. We were happy to find potable water and a bathroom. While the property is lovely, some other campers made the experience unpleasant. A big group camped next to us was yelling loud late, riding motorbikes around the camp, and burning trash. Also, someone was flying a drone low over our camp site. It wasn't the serene getaway we were looking for, so we ended up leaving early in the morning after one night though we had hoped to stay for two, since we got headaches from the trash smoke. Site number 3 looked like the nicest with a good view of the sunset, away from others but you can still drive to it. I would recommend booking that one if you can.

Cosmo is a wonderful host! He gave us a few campsites to choose from which was cool because each site was completely different from the other, so it depends on what kind of scenery/feel youre looking for. Also the sites are spread out fairly well so that was also a ++

This was the second time I've camped at Cosmo's awesome spot. My friends and I ride adventure touring motorcycles and the property is perfectly suited for moto camping so it's a fave for all of us now. There's plenty of room to spread out, lots of fun trails to explore, and it makes a great basecamp if you want to romp around the area... it's far enough from the coast that it doesn't get too cold or foggy but close enough that it doesn't get to be an inferno like the areas along 101; it's quite the Goldilocks spot. Camping at the top of the ridge and at the bottom are both great options... the warm midday sun and vistas make the upper sites great while the sites on the lower part of the property are a bit more in the forest and shaded. You can't go wrong with either.

Cosmo has been a fantastic host... nothing less than helpful and pleasant to deal with. We enjoyed his company, touring the property with him, and learning about and the Comptche area and new places to explore in the area.

We'll definitely be back!

My group of 3 including me had a wonderful time camping at Cosmo's! It was such a peaceful escape and the views are incredible! You really feel recharged after just a day or two here and we all really enjoyed getting to know our host Cosmo as well as the other people working there. We also brought along a telescope and experienced some of the best star gazings I've ever encountered, it was such a treat! I can't wait to come here during the fall and enjoy a few nights outdoors surrounded by nature. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality Cosmo, we are forever grateful!
