About Soul Food Farm
Soul Food Farm is set against the rolling, golden hills of Northern California. With mighty oaks and silvery olive trees, it provides a beautiful resting place for travelers and a getaway from the ho-hum of everyday life for locals. People enjoy using the farm as home base when they ride bikes throughout the countryside (or visit nearby lakes, wineries, and breweries), but many choose to lay in the fields and watch the clouds roll by

The vibe at Soul Food Farm
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
It was a really great experience. The farm is beautiful and it’s a great set up with bathroom facilities and picnic tables. We camped in an olive tree grove and picked fresh fruit and veggies from the farm. The owner was very friendly and helpful, she gave us a fire extinguisher and bucket of water when we got there. It’s also really close to town, we got a nice breakfast and coffee on our way out.
Soul food farm was the perfect place for a little getaway from the city. The farm is beautiful and we had a chance to pick our own veggies. We stocked up on tomatoes, squash, peppers, and eggplant. Alexis and her family were very welcoming. We had the chance to roam their property as if it were our own. Her pets were super cute and very friendly as well. My girlfriend and I definitely plan on coming back sometime. We are excited to experience it again during another harvest season. If you like camping and want to try a chance of pace this is definitely worth trying. Relaxing and peaceful country getaway.
Just returned from a wonderful weekend camping at Soul Food Farms! The site is beautiful and the hosts were very kind and gracious. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate Mothers Day weekend than picking sweet strawberries from their fields and camping in the middle of an olive orchard. We will definitely come back next year if not sooner.
I highly recommend to stay here! We setup a comfortable and private campsite in the olive groves, picked vegetables in the garden, and enjoyed the company of the farm dogs. The owner is extremely inviting and takes great care of the property. We can't wait for another trip back to Soul Food Farm!
Due to our travel plans my grandson and I were only able to stay 1 night, wish we could have spent a weekend. The farm was just what I had expected from pictures on the website. When we arrived Alexis was checking on the chickens, so we ventured over to meet her. Alexis took us on a tour of the farm where we saw chickens (I think there were over 50 of them), a goat, a cow, and 2 dogs and a cat! We pitched our tent among the olive trees that were scheduled for the following morning for harvesting. Alexis shared with us that they use the olives to make olive oil, can't wait to order a bottle online! We left refreshed and grateful to spend time enjoying a wonderful slice of nature.
This is way overdue!
We had the pleasure of staying at Soul Food Farm last month. Alexis was very helpful, and she even recommended packing warm clothes prior to arrival. When we arrived, Alexis was out so we we're given a tour by an older fellow. I didn't catch his name but he was really nice. He even offered to make us a fire later, which we took him up on! The property is pretty big, stretching from the road to a nearby hillside, with lots to do and FULL of life. The farm's main squeeze is a nice-sized olive orchard that you can pitch your tent in, but Alexis is also working on growing essential oils. Aside from that, the farm also contains a goat, a pig, several chickens, a rooster, a cat, and two dogs. Ella, one of the dogs, is a sweetheart. She spent most of the time following us around, napping in the randomest places, and she even lead us on a hike up the nearby hill. Batman, the cat, is also quite friendly but he's nortoriously known to steal food. Word on the farm is he stole a steak once (ha)! Anyway, I could go on (and on and on and on) but I don't want to spoil all the fun. However, cause I know all the glampers are wondering... Yes, there is a restroom! And yes, it's really quite nice! It is in an old storage container, which I found super neat. I didn't see an outlet though so your hair straightener won't do you any good (ha). But yeah, hope you guys fall in love with this place as much as we did. Happy camping!
p.s. Thank you Alexis for letting us host an Easter Egg Hunt in your garden!
My friends and I loved it. Alexis was very nice and allowed us to go almost everywhere on her farm. I would highly recommend Soul Food Farm, it's in a beautiful place.
Close to the beaten path, but seems like you are far away. Very cool working farm with chickens, a boar, a huge bull, and a friendly dog and cat running around. You can camp in an olive orchard! The proprietors are super cool and the place is very charming. 55 acres to wander around on. I would recommend this spot!
although we didn't get to stay because of the rain, it seemed like a really cool area, dogs ran out to greet us and the owner told us of a clean safe hotel to stay at...looking forward to returning!
Perfect first experience with Hipcamp. The owners are super helpful and very chill. We set up two tents and picnic blankets under a big tree that provided us with ample shade. There were two friendly dogs on the farm that kept us company. You can walk around the farm and visit the chickens, the goat and the cow. Definitely bring your bug spray to avoid the mosquitos at night.
Such a beautiful farm! Alexis was incredibly friendly and helpful. Wish we could stay longer!
Amazing place. Like a Sunset magazine feature come to life. Especially wonderful for my 2yo and 4yo, who declared the strawberries "sweeter than ice cream," and spent the morning assembling beautiful assortments of fresh-picked herbs on serving plates. Pack bug spray for the evening, and don't promise s'mores to the kids until you know whether the wind is calm enough for a fire. Highly recommended.
Camping at Soul Food Farm is the definition of peaceful, and its proximity to the bustling Bay Area makes it perhaps only more so. To know there's a breezy, lavender-scented field to wander alone less than two hours from San Francisco? We'll definitely be returning.
Beautiful beautiful gardens and orchards. Fun farm animals to visit and grounds to explore. Only downside is a high prevalence of ticks, so take necessary precautions!!
Fantastic stay at Soul Food Farm! Alexis, the owner was so welcoming, as was her adorable dog, Ella (who was great with my 2 & 3 yr old boys). It's a beautiful location conveniently located if you're in the Bay Area. We camped in a sweet spot in the olive grove with picnic tables and a tire swing--all the young kids in our group were in heaven. You could hear the road from our spot but there were plenty further back on the property. We were able to get fresh strawberries and farm eggs and took a lovely walk around the property to look at the resident chickens, goat, cow and pig. The light against the hills is magical. Will definitely be back!
Soul Food is a great place for some big back yard camping! Alexis has about 55 acers. There is a nice olive orchard that gains everyone's attention for camping. There are two great trees: one with a couple picnic benches and one with a picnic bench and tire swing. I imagine car campers and most others will stay in the orchard most of the time. So you may find yourself surprisingly close to another camper or set of campers. If you can go lightweight and haul your kit, there is so much to see. I wish I had another day, as her property extends up a ridge. I imagine that view is something, and there might even be a flat spot or two to camp on. I had my son with, he loved the livestock. The outdoor dog Ella is a big sweetie. The goat really wants to be a lap goat, the sheep stuck to themselves and the chickens were entertaining. The pig was also very friendly and was quite okay with being scratched and rubbed. The eggs were delicious and we bought some lavender and olive oil while there. The gardens were lovely, the bathroom was very cute, clean, and appropriate for the land. All in all, great experience that we will repeat. Just keep in mind, if you want intimate and alone, you'll need to earn it with a good walk.
We just returned from the most wonderful weekend camping trip at Soul Food Farm. (Stayed two nights, August 2016). We were two families with a total of 4 young kids aged 2-6 years. When we arrived, Alexis was there to greet us and showed us around the farm. You can pretty much camp anywhere but most people like to set up their tent in the beautiful olive grove (dry-farmed!). There are a few picnic benches in the grove and some table and chairs set up in different locations to enjoy the beautiful farm.
There are a lot of animals on the farm. Ella--the resident chocolate lab loved us and decided she wanted to spend the whole two days outside our tent, and walking around with us. Which was fine by the kids :) And then there's batman the cat who is also very friendly. There's a chicken coop on one end of the farm, Wanda the goat, some sheep and baby chicks.
Alexis also grows tomatoes, figs, passion fruit, strawberries, peppers, pumpkins, cantaloupes, and flowers. She encouraged us to explore and pick fruit and veggies--they were delicious.
They set up the campfire at 8pm daily (provided it's not too windy) and we enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the late evening, with the backdrop of the hills.
The toilet/sink/bath house had some septic issues so while we could use the sink there, we had to use porta-potties for toilet.
Some things to note: In the olive grove, the ground is very dry with some dried sharp grass and thorny weeds. The weeds are mostly on the outer edge of the grove--but be sure to bring a good thick tarp to place under the tent so your tent floor doesn't get damaged.
Pitch your tent right against an olive tree where you won't get the morning sun immediately overheating the tent--if you want to sleep in, that is :)
There's a nice grocery store called Nuggets 3 miles away from the farm where you can get everything from basic supplies to specialty cheese and wine.
Enjoy camping at this farm--you won't be disappointed! We are already looking forward to our next stay here!
We really enjoyed camping among the olive trees and exploring the farm. The lavender's beautiful and our two young boys loved seeing all the animals and playing on the tire swing. There are two big friendly dogs and a cat called Batman, and some nice touches like an antique sink and fresh flowers in the bathroom
Soul Food Farm is idyllic! From the olive grove, to the lavender patches, the tomato maze and the sprinkling of friendly farm animals throughout, this farm is gorgeous. The hosts are genuine, caring and interested and have a delightful shabby chic decorating flair. We stayed with out 3 children and adored it. The gorgeous lavender oil products, olive oil and fresh cut flowers that we brought as gifts on our way out were the icing on the cake. Thank you Soul Food Farm!
SFF was a haven. The hosts were inviting and accommodating, even with us booking late the night before. There are many spots to camp on throughout the ground and the farm is a delight to wander through. Ella the dog treated us as long time friends, even keeping watch over us as we slept. You want to stay here!
Great hosts and a lovely place to camp. We camped in teh olive grove but there is plenty of choice where to pitch your tent.
The facilities provided were great. Very well presented bathroom and the hot outdoor shower was great.
We camped with our two kids (6 years and 8 years) they were made to feel very welcome on the property and had a great time.
Amazing campsite! Alexis was so kind and the eggs and lavender we bought were amazing! Hoping to return in a month or two!
It was amazing! So beautiful and peaceful and you can pick farm fresh veggies. Hosts are great and welcoming.
We enjoyed our first visit to Soul Food Farm last year and we enjoyed our return visit. Kids enjoyed wandering around the farm picking fruit and veg, feeding chickens.
Enough to do in Vacaville for a long weekend - hiking in Lagoon Valley Park, swimming at the public pool in town. We'll be back!
• Alexis, Eric, and their daughter were welcoming and friendly.
• We were the only campers and got to pick our spot. We chose the oldest olive tree in the grove and parked our tent home underneath its roomy spread.
• Picnic tables, one-seater restroom/washing up (dishes) station in an airy, open converted shipping container.
• Lovely breezes almost all of the time, with wonderful scents of lilac, herbs and flowers subtly floating in the air.
• Time for just ourselves to relax and decompress. Alexis visited us once to see that we were settled in and offer to light the fire pit. We'll enjoy the fire pit next time, when it's not so hot!
• Plenty of space to stretch our legs, with the offer of free blackberries on the bush, although we didn't try them this visit.
• Lots of winged wildlife - constantly running quail, tapping woodpeckers, little brown birds catching bugs on the fly (pun intended) :
Beautiful location and very nice hosts! We had a great time staying here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a short weekend getaway.
This was a great stopping off point in our trip. The property is awesome with plenty of space to stretch out even with other campers on site. Our hosts were great and welcomed us and let us know the lay of the land. There was a great little bathroom on site for ease of use. We were also able to pick out a spot in the orchard that was quite tucked away despite being close by everything.
Very relaxing stay in the middle of the olive orchard. Blackberry brambles, foraging for heirloom tomatoes, warm sun and cool breeze - could not have asked for a better spot. Our host, Alexis, was kind, thoughtful, and lots of good suggestions. Will definitely be back!
Soul Food Farm was perfect. The hosts were lovely and getting to camp in a grove of olive trees with our kids was just magical.
My 9 year old daughter and I had a fantastic time at Soul Food Farm. We especially enjoyed picking and eating farm fresh fruits and vegetables, and enjoying eggs that were laid the same day. I have already recommended the spot to friends!
My boyfriend and I spent the weekend at Soul Food Farm. It was a great escape! We set up our tent next to a tire swing near the olive trees. The property is beautiful. We explored the land, visited the animals, including a friendly goat, some chickens and sheep. We picked fresh vegetables from the garden and were able to grill up a delicious dinner with our portable grill. If you drink beer, I highly recommend picking some limes from the tree at the front of the property and throwing them in your drink. There is also a strawberry patch nearby. We enjoyed the company of the farm dog. She was so cute going from family to family. I was so excited to be able to use the outdoor shower. There is nothing better than taking a nice hot shower with a view. The owners lit a fire for us during the night. My only critique is that the bathroom toilet was not available because they are doing some work on the septic. We had to use porta pottys which were very clean when we first arrived. It did not bother me at all but just a warning. We also left with some flowers, lavender essential oil, and olive oil. I would highly recommend this place to a friend.
For us, Soul Food Farm was well located for a pit stop between Big Sur and Lassen Volcanic. The farm was everything we hoped it would be. The orchard is a super cute, romantic place to tent, the bathroom, reading room etc are artfully decorated, and there are many animals to visit (we fell in love with Wanda the goat). The owners are hospitable, happy to talk about the farm, make a campfire, and even let us pick a few veggies from the garden. We only wish there was an opportunity in the morning to say goodbye and pick up some eggs and flower water. Overall, we highly recommend Soul Food Farm.
It's a great place to stay - a bit expensive for just camping but they light a fire and you can walk on the property and the bathroom is super nice.
Soul food farm was amazing! Owner is awesome. Gives you freedom to explore the space and available if you need anything.
Plenty of space to enjoy your group and not be impacted by other groups nearby.
Lots of choices of where to pitch your tent and have fun
2 dogs- 1 old, friendly and chill; 1 young and a little more to himself and friendly also.
1 cat- cool cat. Will try to eat your food lol
Chickens, a goat, a cow, beautiful gardens with herbs, veggies and fruit. You are welcome to pick fruit and veggies right from the garden.
Shoes for outside. The grass is pretty hard and prickly
Grilling materials. If they have it, they will let you use charcoal and lighter fluid but bringing your own supplies is encouraged.
Stores not too far away.
We had a great time! 2 adults and an 11 year old. Something for each of us to enjoy.
Will definitely be back.
I would only say make the bathroom and little more private- the window is open and exposed. When going to the bathroom it can feel a little "center stage".
That is the only thing I recognized
Great time! Will be back
