Sky Camp made for the perfect Joshua Tree retreat. Just a short drive away from the national park, it was great to get away and see a different, more remote side of Joshua Tree. The camp is situated on the base of a mountain and has lots of boulders to climb and trails to explore. There was tons of space which would make this a great group camp site, but we found it worked perfectly as a couple's getaway as well.
Our host Kimberly and her husband were very welcoming and have put so much love and care into the camp site. The large grill, wood burning stove, tables, chairs, and newly built bathroom and shower made us feel right at home. The shower was easily my favorite part of the site and getting to take a cold shower outside in the early desert light was truly a once in a lifetime experience.
We also enjoyed the art installments at Sky Camp. The bathroom door had recently been painted and they also has a new mural painted right on site. Kimberly was more than happy to talk to us about the mural and it's creator and about all the future installments they plan on adding. We can't wait to go back and see what's new at Sky Camp's Desert Mountain Majesty!
I had a wonderful time. It is a magic place with all of the right touches (flush toilet, lovely hand soap, beautiful art, great hang out space and even a grill), but you still feel like you are camping. The camp ground is a great place to escape and get away from it all. I am looking forward to my next visit.
My family spent the Memorial Day weekend at Skycamp and we were not disappointed. We were 6 adults with 5 kids, ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years and a great time was had by all. We spent the days enjoying the shade under the covered patio, swinging in the hammock swings and playing games. The evenings playing horseshoes, grilling our dinner and appreciating amazing sunsets. The space was gorgeous, comfortable and relaxing. The bathroom and shower were amazing and given the heat, the cold water shower was more than welcome!
Great campsite! Clean and very well kept. The outhouse was a wonderful amenity and the landscape was so peaceful and private. The LED lights were a really nice addition and the hammocks added to the bohemian atmosphere. This is a great space to rent if you have a large group! Lots of space and a horseshoe game set up.
One draw back is that the fire ring is on a lower level than the common kitchen area and campsites, so you have to be vigilant when your fire is lit. It made it hard to enjoy cooking and eating in the same place. This limited the time that we spent around the fire, because we were unable to keep an eye on it, if we were not on the lower level by the fire ring. We would have loved to use the wood burning stove, but the exhaust was not connected. Maybe next time we stay, it will be up and running!
This is a great camp site. We highly recommend it!
Desert Mountain Majesty is a true oasis in the desert.
This campsite is incredibly unique and artsy, with several art installations on the grounds and more to come. The central shelter structure provides precious shade in the middle of a sunny summer day, and a lit gathering space at night with full grill, cutting board table, and picnic area for a lovely group dinner experience. The bathroom is alarmingly beautiful for an outdoor setting (great toilet/sink, very well presented), while the open shower is a true bucket list experience - absolutely incredible. Having a separate potable water hose was also an invaluable convenience when staying multiple days in the desert.
The location is tucked away and very private, while also not far from Joshua Tree NP and Joshua Tree proper. There are great little stores and coffee shops to visit, and the national park is of course worthwhile. I'd definitely recommend a nitro cold brew from Joshua Tree Coffee Co.
We met briefly with the host, Kimberly, who was a very pleasant and welcoming woman. She was great about communication and follow up, as well as fun interactions on Instagram :).
Myself and my group were all VERY pleased with this highly once-in-a-lifetime type camping environment and weekend get away, and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay near Joshua Tree.
My family of four recently stayed here for one night. We would've loved to stay longer but we have two toddlers with us and the thought of staying more than two nights in the desert in Summer was not ideal for us. Our girls, 2 and 4, absolutely had an amazing time playing, running around (with our supervision, of course), and experiencing the awesomeness of the campground. There are only 3 camp sites and there's a really nicely set up common area where people can hang out and meet other friendly folks. We also appreciated that the area where there is a bit of a drop off is bordered with ropes so it was easy for the kids to know where not to go. The bathroom/outhouse was kept spotless at all times but the best part is having an outdoor shower in the middle of the desert! There was also a fire pit on a lower level accessible via some brick steps. We didn't use it but I bet that area would be incredible during cold nights. Our experience with this place was nothing short of fun. You can't beat sleeping under the stars on a warm summer night. We love camping and we're glad we discovered this one! We'll most likely come back and experience it on a different season!
Our experience here was amazing. Kim was so helpful and answered every question and concerns that we had , The views were amazing, the outdoor shower was probably one of my favorite things. I would definitely come out here again and again
We had a great trip at Desert Mountain. Wonderful views and a chance to truly unwind.
Lots of space between the sites and loved the larger fire ring area.
The campsite has a wealth of amenities including a covered area for group cooking and hanging out.
We enjoyed the outside shower and the recently installed hot water. What a luxury!
We would certainly camp here again.
A special thank you to the host Kimberly who graciously sent back our lost keys!
That was a true blessing. Thank you so much!!
Just finished our stay at Sky Camp, and it was an adventure. We were lucky to have found this place since we were coming to Joshua Tree during busy season and wanted a guaranteed camping spot close to the park. The "common area" was awesome, there were chairs, a BBQ, tables, and two hammocks to sit on. Also enjoyed the clean bathroom facilities with flush toilet. A little too cold during our visit, but the idea of a cold water outdoor shower is amazing, also enjoyed the art mural on site. The fire pit down the stairs was also enjoyable, and we were glad that the hillside blocked out the powerful winds that were blowing that evening. Not sure if it's windy up there all the time, but nonetheless it was an enjoyable experience. Kimberly was also very accommodating and responded with all information in a timely manner. Would recommend!
Sky camp was perfect! we enjoyed the place. Just a short drive from Joshua tree. Enjoyed the cold outdoor shower and the flush toilet they had but still felt the camping experience due to it being remote and away from the busy streets. It was a very good experience. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to camp and have fun. Oh, we enjoyed hammock swings very much and fire pit below.
Wonderful property with clean and convenient amenities. The property owners have put a lot of effort into creating a unique property that we will never forget. Running water, super clean bathroom, small fire pit, each campsite has its own grill and the common area featured two hammocks and a really cool charcoal grill.
It was the perfect place to enjoy the 2016 Perseids meteor shower. The weather was so nice that we ended up sleeping under the stars!
Desert Mountain Majesty is a pretty neat spot. It is out on its own in Joshua tree with a killer out door shower and nice out house. It has stellar views and insane star gazing. The site also has a fire pit as well as an outdoor kitchen/eating area. Here you are surrounded by local art as well. Cool painting light up the site and make it unique. I would stay here again, and maybe I will! Would recommend to anyone. All the best and Kimberly ( the land owner) is great!
I absolutely fell in love with this campground. It has some cool art, and a lot of necessities were included like a mini grill, a few utensils, picnic tables and fire pits. The best part is how clean everything is- the bathroom, shower and patio area.
I definitely will be booking another trip to Sky Camp soon! This camp ground is a hidden gem.
The campsite was beautiful! Everything was so well maintained and practically brand new! Plus who doesn't love having a real shower and a flush toilet?! Kimberly (the site owner) was also incredibly friendly and does a fantastic job meeting the needs of campers. If you're looking for a nice, quiet campsite with a lovely view of the desert, this is definitely it!
Sky camp was amazing, so clean and well kept. It had everything we needed to be comfortable in the desert oasis, the site sits perfectly overlooking the land with an awesome view of the sky. We all had such a great time it went to fast, we definitely would come back again! Thank you Sky Camp
We loved our stay at Desert Mountain Majesty! It's a unique spot with art scattered on the campsite and a fun community fire pit where we enjoyed meeting and hanging with other campers. It can be very windy since it is on the side of a mountain, but there is a cool shipping container that you can hang out in to take refuge. I had the pleasure of meeting our camp host Kimberly and she was so welcoming. I am really excited to come back and see this site in a year, sounds like only more exciting things to come for Desert Mountain Majesty!
My fiancé, our two dogs and I stayed at Desert Mountain Majesty for two nights and had an incredible time. The camp is located just a short drive away from Joshua Tree National Park and is settled against a mountain range, secluded from the main roads. It is unbelievably quiet at night and the night time views of all the stars are amazing.
The campground itself is clean and well kept. Each of the three campsites comes equipped with a picnic table, charcoal grill and plenty of space for your tent. There are beautiful painted murals separating each campsite along with a mural painted on the side of an old truck trailer which has been converted into a lounge area. There is a community patio area that is covered to provide shade with a grill, wood stove, tables, hammocks, and solar powered led lights wrapped around the posts. The restroom was clean and equipped with a flushable toilet and a sink. The shower is attached to a propane tank for hot water and provides a very surreal experience showering out in the open to. There is a community fire pit located on a lower level to pull your chairs around and stay warm and socialize during the cold nights. With the exception of a few tiny mice that came to share our Jiffy Pop at the campfire, my fiancé was pleasantly surprised we saw no other creatures as she worried for the weeks heading up to our trip of our exposure to snakes and spiders, especially with our dogs coming along.
This campsite was a great escape for us and we really look forward to coming back. We highly recommend this site.
We had Sky Camp all to ourselves on Monday night. The shade structures here are as good as it gets—they’re covered in beautiful paintings and have great seating. And don’t even get me started on that shower! It’s open-air with a rain-style shower head and so incredibly refreshing on a hot day. We worked remotely here all day by tethering to our phones—Verizon and ATT both had 4 bars/4G.
This camp site absolutely blew our expectations away! We had never been to Joshua Tree before and had no idea where we were going, but Kimberly was available throughout the night to help us out with directions and went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable and made it to the site safely. The campground itself was so unique and wonderful, the multiple areas to hang out were so convenient and the outhouse with plumbing was so incredibly wonderful. Not to mention the outdoor shower, it was such a great touch.
The other people staying at the site with us were awesome and we ended up chatting and hanging out all night. Our tent had a perfect view of the moon rising as well, and we watched well into the night and had an absolutely amazing stay in general. We will 100% be returning for weekend trips and vacations alike. Can't say enough good things. Thank you so much, Kimberly!
Just an over night stay but would come back again. The camp is exactly what is described on tbe web site. Clean all round and quite funky!
The stars were simply amazing to see including satellites whizzing through the sky.
The off road track up to the camp is a little rough - not ideal for a Lambo ! Ok through for most cars.
Keep it up Skay Camp.
Desert Mountain Majesty was a fabulous campground. We had a group of 17 and booked all 3 sites. It was incredible to have a whole campground to our group -- very different than camping in a state or natl park. The bathroom was gorgeous and spotless, shower was a treat, and the shaded living room was absolutely perfect. I can't gush enough about our experience there in October 2016. Highly recommend!
We rented all three sites at this campground for a weekend group camping trip, and it was absolutely perfect. We loved the gorgeous sunsets, time spent around the fire, nice new grill for cooking up enough for a group, the horseshoe game, the hammocks, and of course the outdoor shower. Many in our group were first-time campers and they all had a great time. The nice, real bathroom was a great addition for people who weren't completely comfortable embracing the great outdoors. Our dog loved rolling in the dirt too!
Desert Mountain Majesty at Sky Camp is a phenomenal place for a group camping excursion. The panoramic views, warm outdoor shower, and landscape-inspired art installations make this a perfect getaway. It's just a short drive from the national park, but is immediately surrounded by hills perfect for hiking. I highly recommend!
This place was pretty much perfect and we enjoyed our stay. Our host Kimberly was over the top helpful with any questions that we had and was very communicative throughout the process. The place is really dreamy - on top of a hill overlooking a large swath of land with an outdoor shower and bathroom, as well as several structures that make this place aesthetically beautiful and functional at the same time. We will definitely be coming here again.
I showered outside in the winter. On a morning hike, I spied on a coyote atop the ridge that was spying on me. We had the camp all to ourselves (4 people) with no one as far as the eye could see or ear could hear. Overall, an amazingly pleasant, private, and comfortable camping experience that you just don't get camping in Joshua Tree National Park.
There's also a laundry list of amazing amenities: a converted shipping container for inclement weather, two group firepits, picnic tables and charcoal grills for each site, and the outdoor shower which is warm enough to use in the winter. This place would be amazing for group camping if you reserve all sites. Only a short drive from town and the park. Go camp here now!
First off, the views alone are worth the trip to Skycamp. But even aside from that Skycamp was a very cool and very well maintained camp site. The facilities themselves (including shade structure, grill, hammocks and a VERY luxurious outhouse), provided a extra comfort amid the weather extremes norm to the area. There are also various interesting art pieces integrated into several elements on the grounds. I found myself discovering a new little detail every time I wandered over to them and it was quite fun!
Our group was able to rent mountain bikes at the Joshua Tree Bicycle Shop and the owner pointed out a beginner's loop that goes right by Skycamp. If you don't already have one you can rent a Fat Tire bike from these guys and really utilize the the trails around the site-- guaranteed you will have an awesome time! There is a lot of fine sand-like granite on these trails so thicker wheels will do better.
Overall my group had a great experience here and I highly recommend you try it out, it will be worth it! Have fun!
Absolutely LOVE Desert Mountain Majesty Sky Camp... this place was epic and we will most definitely be back. Very private, a long ways off the main roads, feels wild but the amenities are top notch (by campsite standards). The toilet was a godsend, the sheltered patio area is perfect for cooking and hanging, the firepit was delightful and the little sheltered reading room caught the morning sun and made for the perfect location to sip coffee and get warm after a cold winters night!
What a great place to camp!! Easy to find, convenient access to Joshua Tree NP (campsites within the park fill QUICKLY). The added amenities - outdoor shower (with hot water!), fire pit, fire-burning stove, and clean outhouse with sink and flushable toilet were definitely worth it!
Beautiful grounds, lovely campsite that provided everything and more you would need when camping. The weather was very cold and windy when we went mid-feb so I recommend lots and lots of layers when you come during this time! Because of the weather I wished we could have had a fire in our campsite to warm ourselves. But besides that, such a cool place to camp out at with attention to detail for all the decor and amenities. Thank you for having us!
This is a very cool camp location with only 3 sites. Bathroom was very nice, instant hot shower. One suggestion would be to put a fire pit next to each site. If you want to have a fire you have to walk away from your camp to the pit. It's not bad but when it's cold it would be nice not to have to carry your chairs and gear back to your camp. Aside of that it was a very nice place. I would recommend and plan to camp here again in the future.
Easy getting set up with the spot, owners made it a smooth process with directions and a map. It was a wonderful area, great set up with the bathroom and storage crate. Beautiful sunrise and scenery, will definitely make another reservation in the future! Thanks for everything!
Sky Camp was absolutely gorgeous! It's hard to imagine another spot like this in the Joshua Tree area. If you're a sunrise person, look no further. Kimberly's beautiful land is situated on the east side of a rocky mountain. There's even an outdoor shower so you won't waste a minute away from the view. If you get a chance to chat with Kimberly herself, do it! She's an amazing host -- thoughtful, friendly, conservation and community conscious, and so knowledgeable about the area. I can't wait to return.
We had a great time at this site! All the amenities were just as described if not better! the bathroom with a flushing toilet was a bonus. The view was incredible as you're set above the desert floor on the side of a mountain that provides much needed shade in late afternoon. Cool art installations by local artist dot the site and plenty fire rings to gather around. Even a wood burning stove! The host Kimberly was very welcoming, nice and full of local inside tips for our trip. It was quite windy so come prepared for that but that's the desert for you. Five stars!!
Gorgeous campsite, great amenities, and a wonderful host. The site provides quick access to all the fun activities in downtown Joshua Tree, but also gives you a sense of solitude and a great nearby peak to hike and watch the sunsets. I rented the whole venue for a party of 10, and that seemed like the perfect amount of space and privacy for everyone.
We had so much fun at Sky Camp! Kimberly was an awesome host! The site is really cool with easy access to the town of Joshua Tree and the Noah Purifoy Museum. Easily drove into the park for some beautiful hikes and were able to mountain bike right from camp. More communal than a traditional campsite, so luckily all other campers were very nice and mellow. Will definitely come again!
This was my first Hipcamp experience and surely
Not to be the last. The Desert mountain majesty property was a perfect pre yoga festival grounding into the beautiful high desert. I only stayed for one night out would have loved to explore some more. The site was well kept, with a beautiful view to the north west and east. Outdoor shower... yes please! Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely family staying at one of the 3 sites and proceeded to go mountain biking with them. A great site for a group or as I did, flying solo. The owner was friendly and detailed on description and direction.
I would def stay here again!
Great place to stay to get away from the crowds at the Joshua Tree Park campgrounds. The sites are very clean and everything is well maintained. The bathroom and shower are pretty cool! I had to try out the shower. Great art work makes the sites interesting. The other two groups at the campground were some-what antisocial (although very nice), so we had the common areas all to ourselves. This might not be your spot if you want to be alone with your fire. Site 1 was the most seculded (for desert camping that is).
This site is brilliant- our heads are still full of the great views and vistas- and desert flowers and birds- and the facilities really support this. Everything has been so thoughtfully put in place- shower, shade, loo. Must have been a lot of work but well worth it- we would go back again tomorrow if we could.
Our stay at Skycamp was amazing! Every detail of the campground felt thoughtful and was so fun to explore. It's very obvious that a lot of care, thought, and artistry was put into crafting an incredible camping experience, from the amenities to the artwork found throughout the campground. We camped with a group of 6, and although the campground was full while we were there, each site was spacious enough that we still felt like we had privacy. The host Kimberly was really helpful in answering all my questions while I was planning this trip, and always responded to my messages quickly. I can't say enough good things about Skycamp, and can't wait to come back again!
Went camping with my family last weekend. Great spot for families and a super rad location. Can't wait to go back! Just make sure you have a car that can handle the dirt roads leading to this spot. We have a Land Cruiser so this presented no issue, but I could see a sports car having issues ;)
Great site with all the amenities. Covered patio provides all day shade from the dessert sun. At night great place to hang around the warmth of the wood stove and cooking on the large barrel charcoal grill made it easy to feed a large group. Close to everything - JT National Park, Pioneertown, Yucca Valley shopping and much more. Stayed two nights. Some strong winds on the second night. Used rope to tie down tent and all was good. With no rain fly on we enjoyed star gazing in the comfort of our tent. Had the pleasure of meeting Kimberly and learn a little bit about the love that has gone into the ongoing development of this site. Fire pits for each site coming soon is something my family and I will be checking out next time we visit Joshua Tree. Highly recommended this camp site.
Desert Mountain Majesty offered sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, an awesome (and necessary) shade structure and an outdoor shower. A quick drive to the national park, the camp offers some isolation from the crowds but encourages interaction with the fellow campers from the other 3 sites.
Desert Mountain Majesty was a bright and beautiful retreat! We were lucky enough to be the only ones camping during our stay and it felt like we had our own piece of the desert. You can explore the rocks and nearby hill with the quails and turtle doves. The outdoor shower and bathroom were luxurious but still felt a part of the desert magic. There was ample seating in common areas and at the site itself. I would highly recommend this nook of the desert. There were only two of us this time but I could see this campsite being perfect for big groups too! FYI there is really no shade to pitch your tent under at the site but the common area and storage space offer shelter from the sun.
Just returned home from an amazing first experience at Joshua Tree National Park. This was our first time using HipCamp and loved how easy and fun it was! On our drive to SkyCamp, we had no idea there would be dirt roads up to the campsite. So if this affects your travels, here's your warning! Luckily our car was able to drive through the mile or so of rocky, unstable road. Upon arriving, there was a a huge group also staying at the site. We understood that it is a group camping site, but we were for sure bummed about how large this group was because they overtook all of the amenities. SkyCamp is GORGEOUS but in my recommendation, should be advertised as a single use group experience! It was hard to share all of the wonderful amenities (picnic area, hammocks, art installments, bathroom) with strangers. We weren't able to use the hammocks at all since that group used them the whole time. We were bummed for sure. They were friendly, and so were we, but when we spoke with them, neither of us had any clue we would have to share everything so closely together. Next time, we will probably book the whole area as a large group, instead of just 2 people *hoping* to get it ourselves.
Everything here was wonderful! But you may not be aware, because it is not listed in the description anywhere....that there are other campers there at other sites. This is NOT private. The lovely "chill" area that is pictured has to be shared with EVERYONE who is staying there. I think there were 4 or 5 sites. We also did not get to chose and were just given a site when we arrived. I had no idea there would be other people. Other than that, the facilitates were immaculate and the outside shower was one of the best experiences. It's easy to get to and Kimberly is extremely helpful and communicative. The land has a wonderful view from the hammocks. I had a great Memorial Day weekend here! :)
OMG !! We absolutely loved this spot. It happened to be a heatwave and intense wind so we never had a fire but we did not care. The artwork and especially the mural was surreal. The outdoor shower at sunrise was so refreshing!! Views incredible and so excited to come back soon!!
I decided to make a last-minute trip to Joshua Tree, and I was so pleasantly surprised at how well Kimberly accommodated my sudden plans, responding quickly and with plenty of information to make my stay amazing. I came during a heat wave, so no other campers were there, and Kimberly made herself available to check in with me and make sure everything was going well. This personal reassurance went a long way for me, and I sincerely appreciated it.
The space itself---oh, this place has soul. I loved lounging in the hammocks, taking in some shade in the refurbished shipping container, and cooling off with the outdoor shower. Everything is so well maintained, and the artists' work throughout speak to the loving care with which this campsite is designed. I can't wait to come back with friends.
This campsite was so beautiful! Easy to get to lots of cool places, Joshua Tree National Park and Whitewater Preserve were our favorites. The town of Joshua Tree is also pretty cool. Cute shops and restaurants along with some funky places too. Make sure you bring your tent stakes as it can get windy. Would definitely recommend!
We are currently on a 6 month road trip around the country with our two dogs, in an old VW Vanagon and we've been camping at a lot of packed campgrounds. That said, it was amazing to have been able to spend a very nice, quiet 4th of July day / evening at Desert Mountain Majesty. We were even lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves. We mostly lounged around on the hammock chairs, read our books, made some hot dogs, and took in the sights while surviving the desert heat! The toilet and shower is a wonderful bonus to the campsite.
One thing I'd note to other travelers: be mindful that you are still out in nature. We had a close encounter with a rattlesnake by the rocks near the fire pits. It did "rattle" at us, so we heard it before we saw it and made a swift move out of the way.
All in all, two thumbs up, highly recommended, would stay again!
Sky Camp was exactly what I thought it would be. The photos are accurate, the shower was the best part and Kimberly has done a wonderful job of decorating/making it a cool space. I was worried about the heat (hello July) so I intentionally made it a short trip and my only wish is I stayed longer. The temperature was perfect at night and the shower was the best way to beat the morning heat when I couldn't stay in the tent any longer. I've been telling everyone about this spot and would come back in a heartbeat.
