Go glamping in Northern California Sierra Nevada Mountains! This is a great choice for either couples seeking a romantic getaway in nature, or families and friends seeking a gorgeous setting with all the necessary comforts provided. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and enjoy this green, remote, Sierra glamping property. Admire the peaceful views and witness the clear night skies. Watch the sunsets turn into a blanket of bright stars as you sit with loved ones around the campfire. Beautiful setting for a rustic ole' west wedding, honeymoon, anniversary, retreat for a small business group or just a special getaway!
The Tipi is equipped with firepit nearby, free firewood, small storage area with cooler, 120V lighting system, outdoor sink, picnic table, patio furniture for lounging on the deck and is located with-in walking distance of the hot outdoor shower and 2 outhouses. The TiPi is extremely cozy for a couple(s) and/or small family having a full size bed and 2 extra cots when needed. We strongly suggest spending at least two nights in our beautiful tipi - one night just won't cut it ...to much fun !
We are off the grid with solar and wind power and no cell service for miles so prepare for DIGITAL DETOXIFICATION!
NO CAMPFIRES or GRILLING over open fire when windy (bring charcoal for backup cooking just in case)
PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT! (we are remote with no garbage service)
Our TiPi which is hand made by Nomadics Tipi makers in Bend, Oregon which is the same company that made the TiPi's for the movie "Dances with Wolves" and is located on the west slope of the Sierra-Nevada Mountain range approximately 45 miles from Lake Tahoe on a remote old west mountain ranch with the nearest neighbor being 12.5 miles away! At 6400' elevation same as lake Tahoe we do experience a "true winter" so we do take the TiPi down in the fall but can be available in June and even earlier depending on the snow. Our TiPi features beautiful hand-painted artwork on the outside with a 9' liner on the inside for those cooler sierra nights.
Just three miles down the road, you can find swimming holes, waterfalls, hiking and fishing in the El Dorado National Forest. Bring your mountain bikes. Plenty to explore on the 40 acres here on the ranch as well. You can find grinding stones left by the Miwoks, beautiful meadows, and a pond.

The vibe at Tipi Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Our stay at Tipi Camping at Silver Fork Ranch was incredible! This campsite is perfectly situated on Silver Fork Ranch, with an awesome fire pit, picnic area, and plenty of land to explore. The Tipi itself was awesome too - just make sure to bring warm clothes as the tipi doesn't keep in heat on chilly nights! If you are looking to get "off the grid" for a weekend and relax in beautiful nature, I highly recommend this campsite.
Rod's tipi is just gorgeous! Surrounded by a great deck, seating, campfire pit with grill and the most abundant fields of wildflowers. Its very well stocked with blankets, additional cots and all the supplies you will need for a great weekend! Rod's property is amazing and staying the luxurious is such a great escape from reality. Highly, highly recommended! The surrounding area is great for hiking, mountain biking, swimming hole exploring and waterfalls galore!
We stayed on a Fri and Sat night and had a great time. The tipi is roomy enough to stand in and has everything you could need to have a comfortable night's sleep. Rod kindly provided two camping cots for the kids. The only downside the entire weekend were the Yellowjackets but there seems to be an explosion in Yellowjacket populations in the Sierras as a whole in that area so nothing we could do about it. Highly recommended!
Tipi Camping was a unique and beautiful experience in the gorgeous Sierras. The tipi itself is beautiful and spacious, and there is also a fire pit (with free firewood), a sink right outside the tipi for washing hands/face, and two sets of tables and chairs. The setting in the forest is romantic and peaceful, and only a 1 hour drive to downtown Lake Tahoe. We stayed for two nights in late July, and it did get slightly cold during the night, but Rod provided us with extra blankets. He was a friendly and accomodating host. We were also very intrigued while watching his adorable cat look for gophers in the morning.
We were in complete Heaven! This place is soooo right! We can't say enough. If you are looking for a Secluded (and we mean Secluded)place to wind down the pace of time, this is it.
Our Host was very friendly and down to earth, informative in helping with directions...
and a very easy person to feel comfortable around.
Our only mistake was not reserving the Tipi for more than the one night.
We look forward to staying at Rod's Tipi for the entire length of our next vacation.
The property is Beautiful, and we feel very fortunate and thankful for the whole experience. Thank's Rod.
Rod is a gracious and kind host. He gave my girls and me a thorough rundown of the spot when we arrived then left us on our own. This is the perfect place to unwind - no cell phone reception, just the smell of campfire and the sound of a babbling brook. The Tipi has most of what you need including lots of extra blankets. Be sure to pack your own food that you can cook over the campfire or your own stove. I can't wait to go back!
Great place! Beautiful surroundings and lots of space between the tipi and other campers on the ranch so it feels like you have the place to yourself. Rod was friendly and welcoming and gave us some great recommendations for the area. Would definitely come again :)
One of a kind experience - and easy! Everything has been thought of for you including an extra cooler, utensils, paper plates, bowls, night lights, fire grill and chairs. A very loved camping spot. The outdoor sink is not only convenient but beautiful! Even the picnic bench has been sanded and finished beautifully. The property is beautiful and the swimming hole a few miles down the road is not to be missed.
Expect a safe, quiet, easy glamping experience. The temperature does drop at night so a small camping heater is recommended. The weather is very different at this elevation too...sprinkles throughout a warm day is expected in August and you are in a TeePee - so a heavy rain will bring in some sprinkles.
Would definetly recommend and would return :)
