Campsite #4 is perfect for a smaller group of 5 or maybe a couple more. There is the best drinking mountain water nearby at a faucet and toilets in walking distance. It is also right next to a pond where you will hear fish jumping in the morning as well in the early evening, there are resident free roaming ducks that might visit and hang out :) There is parking for a few cars and a few tents with a picnic table, fire pit and of course firewood is free!
NOTE: campsite #4 is apx 75 yards from a cabin but still has adequate privacy and plenty of room to spread out. Best star gazing ever!
NO CAMPFIRES or GRILLING over open fire when windy (bring charcoal for backup cooking just in case)

The vibe at Old West Ranch Site #4
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Perfect weekend getaway. Rod was a great host with plenty of tips about hikes and other activities in the area. The ranch is beautiful and peaceful- we enjoyed waking up to the sound of the pond in the morning and having plenty of space from other campers. We will definitely be back!
The site was very nicely appointed with a picnic table, and nice chairs and a beautiful wood bench encircling a fire pit with an awesome adjustable height grill. Rod also provides firewood which is both thoughtful and also responsible to the forest surrounding him. There was shade, and a lovely creek nearby our site. We and the folks at the 3 other sites were very nicely spaced apart, as well.
Rod was an extremely warm and hospitable host, and took every opportunity to make our stay very comfortable and relaxing. He was great to communicate with before and during our stay. We also loved to meet his critters, Zuke the dog and Mingo the kitty :)
The ranch is in a lovely location, easily accessible on a paved road off of Rte 50 and is close to lots of daytime activities-- hiking and of course lakes, including Tahoe.
I must mention that we foolishly left our tent and sleeping bags out while we were gallavanting all day, and came back to find that it had rained. Rod came to our rescue to lend us sleeping bags and make sure we were able to recover from our little mishap and get some rest. Kindness and generosity we won't soon forget. All in all, A+
Old West Ranch was amazing! We stayed for one night only. Rod was very welcoming. There is a really cool hike that goes along a river just a couple of miles away. Breathtaking scenery, the sky was clear so we saw shooting stars :) We cooked on the grill, clean bathrooms, water available (non potable).
Second time we've camped at Silver Lake Ranch! We really love it here. Rod's a great host and very generous. We're also fans of his animals, Zuke the dog, the cat (never got his name), and the funny ducks! We'll definitely be back again.
Small privately-owned ranch in the middle of the national forest, feels very remote, very quiet at night.
Campsite is basic, with a fire pit (grill), picnic table, water a few steps away. Porta-potty toilet is fine....clean enough, but still a Porta-potty. The site didn’t have much level/smooth area to pitch our tent. Ground was a bit lumpy & bumpy.
Site #4 is close to the owners home, but still felt reasonably private. Other campers occasionally strolled by, too.
Other sites were occupied by large groups, but they were far enough away that their noise wasn’t too invasive.
The host was great— greeted us on arrival, made sure we had what we needed.
