Coleman Valley Road is known as the most beautiful road in Sonoma County. Shanti is strategically located on Coleman Valley Road and only a short two-mile drive, bike ride or lovely walk from the cute little hamlet of Occidental with its eclectic shops, famous eateries, art center and locally owned markets. The drive from Occidental to Shanti affords beautiful views of Mount Saint Helena and the surrounding Mayacamas Mountains to the east. But it is further west that attracts so many visitors. The remaining eight miles from Shanti to the ocean are a shockingly narrow, curvy and spectacularly panoramic drive unparalleled in Sonoma County. Forested landscapes of a varied ecosystem of deciduous Oaks, Redwoods and Douglas firs give way to sudden vistas of meadows and a fog-shrouded ocean that stretches into eternity. The drive to the coast only takes about 30 minutes, but you are guaranteed to stop and take lots of photos all along the way. This is the number one scenic attraction in the area, and it is just a left turn out of our driveway.
The cottage can fit four people comfortably. There is one bedroom with a queen sized bed and one full sized futon couch in the living/dining room that sleeps two smaller adults or children. We can host more kids with pads on the floor.
We are unique in that we are super pet friendly, LGBT friendly and 420 friendly.

Thank You Elizabeth for a great stay at Shanti. The cottage was clean, the hot tub was a nice bonus and pictures are relevant. Our daughter loved the animals on the farm as Elizabeth let her feed them. Occidental is close so easy to get places.
The host Elizabeth was very nice and gave us great suggestions for what to do and also shared her duck eggs and fresh vegetables with us. The only thing that I was not aware of from the pictures is that the cottage is right next to the main house and the hot tub is shared with the main house as well. If you're looking for a place with more seclusion I would suggest going with the yurt or the campsite.
We enjoyed a girls' weekend away at Elizabeth's cottage and had a great experience. The gardens are lush and peaceful. The animals were a joy to see and feed (sheep, llama, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs, horses). Chicken and duck eggs were available to buy.
Beautiful hiking trails close by (be mindful of the poison oak!). The cottage is simple yet comfortable. There were 4 of us. We could have shared the bed and futon but ended up using one of Elizabeth's sleeping pads as well as one of our own pads on the floor. It was a cozy slumber party. The futon was actually quite comfy. The bathroom is located in the bedroom, so other guests have to enter the bedroom to use the toilet/shower. Kitchen is small but totally adequate for cooking basic meals. Lots of chairs and side tables outside as well as a hot tub and composting toilet. Elizabeth was a warm and welcoming host. She lives on the property and was readily available for any needs or questions. We booked massages with her which were great. I'd love to come back again and maybe even rent out the cottage, yurt and campsites for a big group of families or friends.
My friends and a I celebrated my partner's birthday back in March at Elizabeth's wonderful Enchanted Cottage. We had a great time on her property with her goats and Cosmo the Llama! Elizabeth was an amazing host, who gave us plenty of information about the property and the surrounding area. She even let us try her fresh duck eggs! Drinking wine in the hottub under the beautiful redwood was by far the highlight of our stay. Would love to come back for another quiet, weekend getaway!
Elizabeth was a very gracious and accomodating host. The farm is so beautiful with flowers everywhere and lovely landscaping. We had a small bachelorette party here and had a fantastic time with 3 people in the cottage and 3 camping. I didn't realize from the photos that the cottage was basically attached to Elizabeth’s house but she was very respectful of us having our space and not at all intrusive. Plus the backyard was very private. The cottage was well-appointed and very clean, the bed comfortable. Plus, Elizabeth made us an amazing dinner in the flower garden. A memorable and wonderful stay!
We had an amazing time staying at Shanti! The farm is nestled in the redwood trees a short drive from Occidental. After braving Friday afternoon traffic from the South Bay we arrived at Shanti in time to watch Elizabeth feed the animals. Sheep, ducks and chickens, all guarded by Cosmo the llama! We even got to see two baby sheep that had been born hours earlier. After getting settled into our places (my wife and I in the yurt and our adult sons in the cabin) we made our way to the big picnic table in front of Elizabeth’s house for a tasty farm-to-table dinner. We chose the vegetarian option, and it was delicious! (OMG, the green beans were to die for!)
The cottage was very cute, spacious enough for all three adults staying there and had all the amenities needed for cooking. There’s a small enclosed yard just behind the building with a gas bbq and seating area. We picked fresh blackberries from bushes growing along the fence, and fresh lettuce from the garden!
There’s a communal fire pit is located just outside the yurt up the hillside, as well as the outdoor shower and composting toilet. It’s a good workout walking up the hill, but you get to say hi to all the farm animals on the way.
Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and highly recommended staying at Shanti. We plan on returning for sure. On a related note, the drive to Hwy. 1 from Shanti is BEAUTIFUL and it drops you just south of Jenner. Visit Russian House #1 for lunch!
Really nice getaway
This was our first time using Hipcamp and we were really happy with it. The cottage was really cute and perfect for getting away from it all. Elizabeth is a wonderful host -- and the kids really enjoyed feeding the animals and such. Occidental is a great town. The redwoods are wonderful. Two thumbs up.
Elizabeth's place was a fantastic retreat -- we loved checking out all the animals, wandering around the property, and exploring the nearby areas. It's an absolutely beautiful drive to get up there too! I'd recommend her place any time :) Thanks again!
