Enjoy our outdoor communal hot shower in a tree along with a simple compost toilet. Then slip inside to relax in your comfy round king-sized bed. If more than two want to stay in the yurt, there is an additional queen-sized Lazy-Boy fold out couch with air mattress. Lots of extra room inside to do yoga or sleep kids on the floor.
When you are hungry, just drive the two short miles into the town of Occidental, where you can feast at one of five excellent restaurants in town and enjoy a microbrew in the local pub. Shanti also provides a communal campfire with a grill for your steaks and veggies. Please no food particles down our sensitive indoor sink! A three burner propane camp stove is communally available for your use as well - bring your own pots, pans and utensils for the stove or campfire. Or for a nominal charge, ask our chefs to include you in a delicious Farm to Table meal. The Enchanted Forest Yurt is two miles away from "The Grove of the Old Redwood Trees," three miles away from trails at Willow Creek Nature Preserve and eight miles to awesome beaches down Coleman Valley Road, considered "The Most Beautiful Road in Sonoma County." If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The yurt was such a treat! Extremely well equipped and conveniently laid out. We comfortably fit 5 people in there. The couch pulls out into a large bed. 2 people shared that and 2 people shared the round bed. Elizabeth included a single mattress for our 5th person. Surprisingly, there was ample floor space; we could've laid out a few yoga mats and done yoga too if we pushed the coffee table aside. Having the sink inside to wash up was a plus. The space heaters kept the yurt cozy despite the rain.
Speaking of the rain, it was the only circumstantial downside for us; it rained the entire weekend we were there. Note that the yurt covering amplifies all sound, so the rain shower sounded much louder and more forceful from inside the yurt than it actually was. While a couple of us found it hard to sleep through (which you can easily rectify with earplugs), others found the drumming of the rain soothing, so it just depends on your sleep style. Tip: Just pick a clear weekend!
Sadly, the rain also meant that we missed out on the outdoor shower, which we were all really hoping to try. It also deterred us from hiking and walking through the surrounding area, which is supposedly beautiful. We did, however, get to check out Occidental and a few wineries and breweries in Sebastopol. Ask Elizabeth for recs – can't go wrong with her suggestions!
Also highly recommend Elizabeth's farm to table offering. Gabe (a WWOOFer) prepared really delicious sheep and tempeh taquitos. If you're up for it, ask to not only get a tour of the farm, but help out with some of the farm work too! I loved that I got to learn about permaculture and gain more of an understanding of truly living off the land.
This yurt was surprisingly more spacious then we expected. It was my husband, dog, and myself but the space easily would fit 2-3 more people comfortably. We went out expecting a few days getaway from technology and chaos of everyday life, and that is what we received. The service is spotty in the yurt which made it easy to put down the phone and explore the great outdoors. It was a pleasant space for experiencing nature and reflection. The yurt is just a short walk up the hill from the farm and home of the host. This allows for convenient access if any assistance is needed but still feels as if you are secluded in a forest away from all other human life.
The amenities provided were far beyond what we expected with running water, sink, refrigerator, lighting, comfortable bed, pull out couch, private toilet and running shower with warm water just outside. We were there over thanksgiving weekend and it was pretty cold out. The yurt provided warmth although it was still pretty chilly. We brought warm sleeping bags that we used on the bed and layered up in clothes.
The location is not far from more activity then we could even get to. The host Elizabeth is happy to provide suggestions for the area if you want to go off property to explore the area. It was only around 8 miles on a breathtaking drive with views of rolling mountains to the most majestic beach I have ever encountered. Some of the cutest little down town areas were also not a far drive off. And ofcourse there is unending hiking among gorgeous redwoods.
If you get the chance to stay here you won't regret the experience and entertaining farm animals that includes a llama named Cosmo!
The Yurt was a perfect weekend getaway. The farm itself is far enough from the town to get that sense of peace and quiet but close enough to get supplies if needed. It’s located at the top of the hill from the farm area so it’s very private if that is what you’re looking for. It has full electricity and is well furnished inside with a circle bed, a dining table and full sofa. It’s surrounded by tall redwoods that watch over you and you can even see them nicely from the dome window inside. In the future, Elizabeth, will be adding an outdoor shower and sink built into the trees! I can’t wait to see how cool that will be! The coast is only 30 minutes away too if you’d like to make a day trip. I would definitely recommend giving SPF a shot if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway.
The Yurt and outdoor shower were unbelievably charming. The surrounding plot of land is beautifully maintained and has furry and feathery residents roaming the area. Getting a chance to interact with the baby sheep and feeding the lama was a total treat.
Elizabeth was extremely accommodating and it was an absolute pleasure to chat with her about the permaculture design systems she uses, the goofy personalities of some of her animals as well as the general fun facts about the neighborhood.
I would come back to visit in a heartbeat, just to be able to take another shower under the canopy of beautiful redwoods. Such a memorable experience!
Such a wonderful getaway! My boyfriend and I decided to bring in the New Year glamping in Elizabeth's genius and beautiful yurt setup. The location was perfect being only 2 minutes away from downtown Occidental and 5-10 minutes from the beautiful Grove of the Old Trees. The yurt sits near a farm of chickens, goats, and a super rad llama all of which are super friendly. Electricity in the yurt made it cozy warm for the cold weather and the lighting was perfect. Upon arrival, Elizabeth kindly showed us around the farm and really made us feel at home. As a bonus, we were also able to bring our dog with us and she absolutely loved it! I highly recommend this location I promise you will not be disappointed.
We loved staying at the Yurt! It was a a cute place with great artwork painted all along the ceiling. It's away from the city lights so stargazing on a clear night is amazing! We drove around the area and there is nothing but beautiful sights everywhere you go!
The farm itself is awesome! There's a pen for the chickens and ducks, the sheep wander around freely, being watched over by their protector, a llama named Cosmo. This by itself made for fun wandering around and watching everything that went on around the farm.
There's a communal fireplace just outside of the yurt where we got to meet the other campers that were staying at the farm. There's a composting toilet and an outdoor heated shower made out of a giant tree!
Go visit the farm, you'll love it!
The Enchanted Forest Yurt was wonderful. The descriptions and other positive reviews were completely accurate and we had such a lovely time on the property. The yurt and campfire pit, are private and nestled up on a hill under redwoods near a pond (where we saw the ducks go for a swim in the morning). You can look up to the canopy of trees through the yurt’s skylight while you lay in the circle shaped bed. The farm itself is totally cool with all kinds of sweet animals, and the owner Elizabeth is truly lovely and a huge help. If you’re looking for a unique getaway and a little adventure, this place is for you!
I love the peace, the sound of peace at this place, the yurt is spacious and the surroundings too. Its so cool to wake up in the forest, smell the trees and walk to the outdoor shover. Simple, uniqe and a perfect place for a short or longer retreat if you have a book to write or something like that. We were met by a very friendly and welcoming host with a lovely eyecontact :-)
