Cosmo campsite: Set in an old growth redwood grove looking to the west across a pasture.  You'll have the best views of the animals as they graze, and they might even walk right through your campsite in the early morning hours!  You can always help us feed them at 7:30 AM or 4:30 PM.   Don't forget your flashlight!

The compost toilet and outdoor shower near the yurt are communal and may be utilized by other campers. The campfire is also communal and all campers may come and enjoy it until 10 PM. THIS IS A HIGH RISK FIRE AREA. ONLY THE COMMUNAL CAMPFIRE IS ALLOWED. NO PRIVATE FIRES ALLOWED ANYWHERE ON SHANTI OR IN ANY CAMPSITES. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PACK UP YOUR TENT AND LEAVE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU LIGHT AN INDIVIDUAL FIRE. Please have fun with your neighbors at the communal campfire. We recommend all guests unload and then park below in the horse arena rather than near the yurt for the best feeling of isolation in nature.

A note about summer heat: The pond is rain fed only. It gradually dries out throughout the summer. In 2016 and 2017, it dried out almost entirely. Elizabeth found a six foot plastic dinghy at the bottom of the Enchanted Pond in 2016! It is important to note therefore that the level of the pond fluctuates with nature and cannot be guaranteed. 2020 was a year with meager rainfall so we can probably anticipate the pond to dry up early in the season.

Looking forward to having you at the farm!

Shanti Permaculture Farm is a great place to spend a weekend! The campsite was nestled under redwoods, so it didn't get too hot, even though we stayed on a 90+ degree day.

There's a great hammock and the animals are well cared for and friendly.

The only downsides to our stay were the proximity to some of the other campers and neighbors. Neighbors played 80s rock during the afternoons and fellow campers didn't all read the check-in instructions clearly, which left them honking by the gate for part of an afternoon.

First time using Hipcamp, and it worked out perfectly. Elizabeth was a very friendly and accommodating host, and the Shanti Farm was very charming. Plenty of friendly animals and well built/kept campsites. I loved the hot water shower that was built into a hollowed out redwood tree. Only a couple miles from downtown Occidental and all Bodega Bay and Sonoma Coast activities are nearby. I plan to return to the Cosmo site again soon! Thanks so much!

The Enchanted Forrest Campsite is truly enchanted. It feels very private, the redwoods provide ample shade. We were visited by the chickens and the farm cat, watched the baby sheep grazing near by, and truly unwound from the city. Elizabeth was a great host, she helped us get settled and checked on us once to make sure we had everything we needed. It's only 6 minutes from town (Occidental) but you feel like you're way out in the woods. Great spot!

Rascal the cat is super friendly and snuggly. Hammocks come with every camp site!

Elizabeth was warm and welcoming, seems like the site is a little new. She would benefit from possibly making more bathrooms as there's just the one composting toilet for 5 little campsites (I think?) So waiting was a little frustrating. HOWEVER, the one composting toilet is amazing. The spiral sticks you see in the pictures is it. And for a composting toilet, its so lovely. Bring earplugs (I always do, and I was so happy I did) if you're not used to farm noises lulling up the hill bright and early in the morning - but I thought they were fun. Chickens, definitely a rooster, ducks, geese, BABY SHEEP! You can help feed them all am and pm if you're so inclined. You can also buy eggs from Elizabeth, made by the chickens who will undoubtedly wander through your campsite looking for bugs and snacks. There's no water to play in (besides the duck's pond), but the insects weren't bad at all. There's a hammock for every campsite (newly installed), for AMAZING redwoods viewing. All in all, I thought it was a great little jaunt into the woods for the weekend, just a few little tweaks and it would be just about perfect.

I had a wonderful stay at the Shanti Permaculture Farm. Elizabeth was a great host, helpful and gratious. The farm is beautiful. There are many farm animals in a natural setting with Redwoods and other kinds of trees There is everything you need need, including a hot outdoor shower and stove. There is also an outdoor dining space and many hammocks scattered around the property. I am looking forward to staying there again.

Nice redwood shaded camp sites with hammocks on a nice working farm. We got to feed the sheep and llama and brought home some delicious duck eggs. Easier to travel light because fire pit and bathroom are separate from camp site which is separate from parking. Elizabeth was super friendly and even fed my kids waffle breakfast...

Our second time here, and again we loved it. Campsites are cozy and private, either nestled with some gorgeous redwoods or a lily pad pond. Elizabeth, other guests, Cosmo the llama, sheep, chickens, chicks, ducks, geese, cats, and dogs....all are open and welcoming.

PS bring home some eggs! Delicious
