Visit a hidden paradise just 10 minutes south of Mendocino village. Pass under the historic Albion Bridge, off Hwy 1, to an unspoiled home to wild things. Each of our campsites is at the edge of the river, offering an unparalleled experience of observing wildlife up close. Seals, sea lions, herons and egrets abound. At low tide, watch the wading birds feed on crabs and eelgrass. At high tide, schools of herring might pass under your kayak. Explore the ocean at the Albion Cove, or paddle upriver. We are beginning an extensive restoration project, inviting the native vegetation and creatures back into our site. Watch the transformation, as human impact is minimized and the river allowed to shape the place. This is a wild place. We are all guests of the River

Tents on the River ~ Sites 1-4
Great little camping spot along the river. Camp host A-Wei was more than helpful. Bathrooms and shower worked great. Nice view of the forest and river from our campsite. Lots of birds and harbor seals frolicking in the river. Beach was a short walk and plenty state parks nearby. We would stay here again.

Heron's Nest ~ Sites 14/15
I hesitate to write the glowing review this sweet camp deserves because I don’t want to share it with the world! It was a magical place to camp and we can’t wait to return! The only thing I would change is a better fire pit be made available at site 14/15. That’s no biggie though. The hosts were the kindest and most friendly people! Highest grade!!!

Tents on the River ~ Sites 1-4
We had a lovely time staying at Shooners Landing. Upon arriving we were so worried we were going to be packed in with all the RV's and camper vans but Shooners is tucked quietly away shortly up the river. We got lucky and had the whole Campsite to ourselves! I must say, it'd feel a tad small if we had others next to us (it'd be fine if they were at the sites further down). The bathrooms were very clean and well taken care of and the camp host were super friendly and helpful. Tips: -bring the bug spray, the bugs come out at dawn for like an hour, then go away but they do some serious damage in a short amount of time. -It gets dark, which is amazing because you can see the Milky way really well, so bring your headlamp and some lanterns for your kitchen set up. -Bring water shoes, the beach is super close and there are lots of beaches within driving distance -Bring quarters for hot water -Enjoy the trip there, California is so beautiful!

Tents on the River ~ Sites 1-4
We had a great stay! The site and facilities were in great shape and we were the only people at the entire camp for the weekend. It got pretty cold at night and there are no campfires allowed on the sites due to the fires, but there is a community firepit near the bathrooms. The bathrooms were extremely nice and very clean. The staff was super friendly and let you be during your stay. You can not park right at your site but we were able to pull up and drop stuff off really quick. There is also a short walk to the beach through the RV campground which is worth checking out. The river is a great site to have and there is a ton of wildlife to see (Ospreys, hawks, seals).

Tents on the River ~ Sites 1-4
Let me start off by saying this place is magical. You rub your eyes because it is so beautiful you can't quite believe it. We saw seals swimming in the river, deer, skunks, and so many birds. We were so lucky to be the only campers the 2 nights we were there. The sites would have been really cramped even if we had 2 for the 4 of us. The tables were mostly broken and not really usable. There was also only 1 fireplace which would have been pretty hard to share (we cooked everything we ate over the fire). The bathroom was great although the shower was pretty dirty (I didn't feel like I could use it). We would come back but would want the whole space again! The camp hosts and residents were all very friendly!
