This is a single tent campsite with a level area to park your vehicle.
Come and enjoy nature in the Sierra foothills while listening to the birds sing. You might get to see a quail family or a flock of wild turkeys come through. Drive right up to your tent site (approx. 16'x16') which is about 200' from communal cooking area, and 50' from the outhouse. Enjoy cooking in our communal outdoor kitchen equipped with a sink, counter tops, propane stove, and earth oven. Bring your dutch ovens and cook on our special fire brick table. Sit around the fire pit and tell stories or roast marshmallows with friends. Enjoy the enclosed outdoor hot shower before retiring for the night or to start your day. Our donkeys love treats such as banana peals, apple cores, etc. and will thank you with a hardy HeeHaw. Just 31 miles from Yosemite Valley and only 9 miles from historic Mariposa. Fresh eggs and garden produce for sale when available, just ask.
At Sanctuary of the Oaks we currently have 11 campsites. Sites #2 through #7, and #10 are tent sites. Sites #1 and #8 are group sites that can accommodate two or three tents. Site # 9 is a 12 ft x 14 ft wall tent set up on a wooden floor platform. And the RV1 site can accommodate up to a 20 ft RV, no hook ups. It is possible to park your vehicle in front of, or next to all of the sites. However most of the parking spots are small and not level. So if you are planning to sleep in your vehicle, we would recommend that you book either the RV1 site, or book one of the other sites and park in the ‘extra parking’ area next to the ‘round house.’

The vibe at Sanctuary of the Oaks site # 7
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
What a lovely campground -- "Sanctuary" is right! We ended up staying at site #8 instead of numbers 6 and 7 because of a mixup, but Jim and Becky were proactive about contacting us and making it right -- very helpful and communicative. The place was easy to find, even late at night. Great amenities, big outdoor kitchen with a sink (camping dishes have never been so easy!) and plenty of counter space. Didn't have a chance to check out the outdoor showers but Becky and Jim were clearly proud of them, and I'd definitely partake if our trip had been any longer.
This campground is about 60-90 minutes drive from Yosemite Valley. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights, and drove into and back out of the Valley both Saturday and Sunday -- it was a bunch of driving! But, I was able to plan this trip much less in advance than I would have had to if we had tried to get a spot in the Yosemite campgrounds, and the additional driving was worth it for the flexibility to be able to visit Yosemite on ~3 weeks notice! I'll definitely be doing this again!
Jim and Becky were amazing hosts and have gone above and beyond to provide the best experience possible! The campground itself is set up very nice with great amenities. With everything from providing firewood, to the kitchen set up, to the very nice outdoor showers, everything was better than expected. Their directions to the camp are amazing as they saved us because we didn't have service. Conveniently located next to Yosemite, I would absolutely stay again and recommend others do as well!
This was my boyfriend and I’s very first hipcamp experience and I would say that it definitely exceeded expectations. We had to make a total detour to the area because of a wildfire that had broken out near Yosemite West, and with our phones having no service pretty much the entire way, the written out driving instructions once we got close to Mariposa were A TOTAL LIFESAVER, to say the least. The campground was spread out across a plot of land with decently spacious campsites, a shared kitchen, an eating/hangout area, showers, as well as two campsite bathrooms which were both kept very tidy. The kitchen was absolutely amazing, as the hosts have supplied it with almost every form of cooking appliance you could possibly need- it was super nice to not have to lug our propane stove and tanks around for every meal. There’s a sink in the kitchen as well with sponges and soap to clean everything up when you’re all done cooking, which was also nice. The showers were incredible, better than most of the federal run campsite showers we’d been to, with both hot and cold water to your liking. The hosts, Jim and Becky, were absolute sweethearts. Jim greeted us the night we came in and gave us a warm welcoming, and Becky came out in the early morning to alert us on any changes in the wildfire and what was going on in the area that might affect our plans. Both Jim and Becky were extremely friendly and conversational, and offered plenty of advice as to where to hike/what to see/etc. in Yosemite as well as in our next destination at Seqouia/Kings Canyon. You won’t find better hosts anywhere! If we’re back in the area in the future, I would definitely come back to the sanctuary of the oaks for another good stay!
