Travel back to a simpler time; the era of I Love Lucy, Elvis and the golden age of camping. Relax with someone special or the family in an all the basics included private travel trailer campsite in the peaceful Mojave Desert. Spend the day playing bocce ball, board games, BBQing, star gazing, nestled next to a loved one by the fire or best of all, doing nothing for a few days.
Your time traveling glamping experience includes a 24 foot heated and cooled travel trailer that sleeps 5. It has a stocked kitchenette, small bathroom with shower and compost toilet all done in an iconic retro style. Step out on to your own private deck and patio like no other where you will find a sunken fire pit, BBQ, tables and chairs, shade umbrellas and vintage touches here and there. Did I mention the private bocce ball court? The turquoise travel trailer is surrounded by 100 straw bales for your privacy and comfort .
What you will need to bring: There are 4 beds including 1 full-size bed and 3 narrow twin beds. All of the beds have one flat sheet and some pillows. You will have to bring your own bedding, towels, shampoo and bath soap. The kitchen includes a 3 burner stove, small oven and 2 stage sink. We provide a frying pan, pot, hot water pot, standard kitchen utensils and salt, pepper and seasoning salt, paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils, instant coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The refrigerator is small. Bring ice if you need additional food storage. The deck has a charcoal BBQ with BBQ utensils and outdoor prep table.
Vintage Vibe, like all of the campsites at Rusty Can Ranch, is off grid and environmentally friendly. The power is provided by solar panels and the water is delivered by truck. When you arrive turn on the refrigerator and water heater and turn them off when you leave. Please turn off all lights, fans and heating and cooling systems when not in use. The heater, stove and water heater run on two 20 lbs. propane tanks. The cooling is provided by a solar powered mini split AC system. Make sure to use environmentally friendly products in the sinks and showers because the water is reclaimed for the landscape. Keep the BBQ 3 feet from the trailer and straw bales. Only use logs in the fire pit. No paper or card board. Please enjoy responsibly.
You are welcome to bring your pets. There is a special place for Fido in the trailer on the bottom bunk. Please no pets on the furniture or beds. Pets must be well behaved and house broken. If you prefer, bring bedding for your pet's comfort.

The vibe at Vintage Vibe: Romantic retreat
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We were the first ones to get to stay at Vintage Vibe at Rusty Can Ranch. Let me tell you that Charles ( the host ) thinks of everything when setting these places up. So many cool little features you’ll be saying to yourself “ That’s a great idea” your entire visit. This place is very private and has just about everything. AC, heater, running hot and cold water, indoor shower, indoor compost toilet, working oven with stovetop, a built in doghouse, large comfy patio with fire pit , easy parking, an indoor/ outdoor speaker setup for he radio ( bring your cd collection or aux cord) , the list goes on and on . We had a blast and will definitely be back.
The vintage vibe: romantic retreat is by far one of my favorite camps. Staying here was an awesome experience. Charles is very kind and helpful. Once you make it to the camp after a non challenging dirt road you are automatically teleported back in time. Vintage decorations, the colorful RV and a fire pit are just perfect. The site is very quiet and ideal for a peaceful desert afternoon. Me and my girlfriend enjoyed a breath taking sunset followed by the clearest starry sky you can imagine. The RV provides everything you need AC, heater, a compost toilet, kitchen, in and out speakers (AUX and FM). I definitely recommend this camp and it should definitely be on your list.
It is love at first sight!I booked Charles's retreat for my friend's birthday, it was 3 of us, just girls, and when we arrived Charles welcomed us, answered our weird questions very politely and with humor, he is a sweetheart. We were amazed by this unique, beautiful RV, he made such a great job, it is not just artistic, stylish, cool, it is comfortable, convenient, stuffed with everything and even more. My friend was so happy, all of us were happy! This place has amazing energy, I feel like I got back from big vacation, but we stayed only one night, and decided to come back again, and stay longer. I think it is a perfect place for everyone, I might go alone as well, it is super calm there and cozy. We had the best time there! I am already recommending this listing for my friends and family. Thank you Charles!
Loved this place! I camp pretty much once a month in SoCal with my four year old. We’re always looking for quirky new listings to explore and venture out to within 2-5 hours of Los Angeles. Rusty Can Ranch is incredible. Just half an hour from Calico Ghost Town and an hour from Big Bear set in the Lucerne Valley (part of the High Desert) this camp has been constructed with incredible love and attention. We stayed in the trailer which has everything you could possibly want - including a fire pit, hot shower and a/c. This is way more than we expected, seasoned Burners that we are... Charles swung by the first evening and pointed out the shipping container and tiny house he’s started to build, and we also walked to the little tiki camp and bunkhouse a stones throw behind the trailer. I absolutely loved our stay here and can not recommend this wonderful place in a completely random location enough. We had a wonderful time and will be back soon. Thanks Charles!
You know when you have high expectations and then those high expectations were exceeded immensely? That was this camp spot! This place was so cool and well put together. You have complete privacy. And the Goldmine hike that was recommended is such an awesome hike and was the highlight of the trip. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The adults had fun. The kids had fun. Anytime we left the trailer to go do other things, all the kids kept saying was that they wanted to go back to the trailer. They absolutely LOVED it! What a wonderful, beautiful weekend we had.
Had the best weekend at this site with my husband! Charles wasn't there to meet us, but left us great directions to get to the trailer. The trailer is nice and private, well kept and clean as well! The trailer and everything about it is beautiful and cute. Charles also mentioned beforehand that the fridge doesn't work but he left us an ice box to use. Overall it was an amazing experience to be in the desert - unwind and unplug, I'd recommend anyone to go!
This place was incredible! The stars shine to bright at night and this is the perfect location for stargazing.
Everything was really clean and it's evident that the host puts lots of thoughts into the campsites. We can't wait to come back to this place! Everything about this campsite was magical. You won't regret booking with Charles!
For those living around LA looking for a romantic glamping experience in the desert, we highly recommend this place. It’s an off-grid RV with a really cool host of amenities: an air conditioner unit powered by solar panels and an inverter; propane stove and oven; propane fridge; propane hot water heater; 1 double bed, 2 bunk beds, and a pet “cave”; compost toilet (really just a bucket with a toilet where waste is covered by wood shavings). It’s pretty neat how it all comes together.
The outside is even cooler. It’s surrounded by bales of hay to give you privacy if you want it. Not that you need it though, because the only thing even remotely close by is another campsite a 30-second way away. Inside the space created by the bales of hay, there’s a grill, fire pit, chairs, tables, outdoor lights. Nearby are buckets of firewood and charcoal (each of which you can buy for 5 bucks) and a bocce ball court.
If you’re looking for a place to just take time off the grid and connect with your fellow traveler(s), without roughing it too much (maybe it’s your first glamping experience) we highly recommend this place.
My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at our first hip camp! Charles was amazing as he was able accommodate our needs, although we booked a night before. Charles put plenty of work into his trailer that is definitely admirable! My boyfriend and I enjoyed every minute of our stay. This definitely won’t be our last!
