If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We loved our stay with Russ! The campsite was very sweet - equipped with a spacious platform for sleeping, stretching, meditating, etc, an awesome little kitchen set up, and lovely little touches to make you feel at home. Russ is very kind and welcoming and we would definitely stay here again!
Glamping oasis in nevada city
Russ greeted us warmly when we arrived and showed us the ropes while maintaining safe social distancing and mask use - but otherwise was completely hands off and left us to our privacy except to answer any questions via text. The place was a lovely to have as a home base to enjoy all that the area has to offer, although it was certainly tempting to just hang out there all day and read in the hammock. We were able to cook several lovely meals on the charcoal grill, and they even provided a few simple cookware items and dishes/utensils as well as a jetboil stove and electric kettle. Russ had just put in a sink when we arrived which was great for doing our dishes. We enjoyed our coffee and breakfast in the mornings near the veggie patch before heading out for the day to get in some water. Great stargazing (at least for us city folk) in the company of Ellie the cat. Highly recommend for a lovely glamping experience, would definitely love to stay here again.
Private, thoughtful, beautiful!
I cannot say enough good things about Russ's incredible space and hospitality. We are already planning another future stay! The tent platform includes a solar shower, flushing toilet, electricity and a practical kitchen space with running water and all the necessary kitchenware. For cooking, a Weber BBQ and small propane cooking stove. An adorable and private dining area had been set up with a table cloth and flowers from the garden for our arrival. The site is shaded and made private by surrounding trees. There are many thoughtful details that make this space so comfortable and fun - and did I mention it is spotlessly clean?! It's a short walk from historic Nevada City (thanks for the recommendation, Russ!). The location cannot be beat - such a quiet, gorgeous and lush neighborhood! Down the road is an archery range if that's something you're into. It's also a short drive away from Scotts Flat (pretty Lake for water recreation). Excellent site!
Cozy camping retreat
Russ is a fantastic host! He designed and built the tiny home structure from repurposed wood, it was cozy, comfortable and clever. It really has everything you need for an easy camping trip, there’s a grill, bathroom with a shower, a sink with running water and electric with lights and a small fan. The setting is beautiful and relaxed and the location is super convenient to downtown Nevada City, Grass Valley, and dozens of outdoor activities and nature spots. Russ was available if we needed anything at all or suggestions on places to go.
We will definitely be back again!
Fantastic site with a great host!
The site: Great glamping site with small and thoughtful touches. It was spacious, private, and clean. The kitchen is well-equipped and we had fun grilling and cooking our food. The bathroom is fancy for a camping experience (Russ also just installed a shower!). We love it so much that we decided to stay in most of the time and was sad to leave.
The host: Russ was very responsive and friendly. He greeted us upon our arrival to show us the site, with standard covid precautions (wearing masks, social distancing). After that, he gave us all the privacy we wanted but was quick to respond to questions via text. He was so nice and brought Ellie the cat over so we could meet her : )
We had a great time and would love to come back! Thank you, Russ!
Had a great time at the Roadside retreat! Having your own private shower and restroom is so much nicer than any campground, and the sink has been upgraded from what's shown in the photos as well. There's a nice, level parking spot for your car (which I missed when I pulled in the dark, it's on the right). And the deck is lovely to hang out in twilight with all the string lights on. Russ was super helpful and available when I had any questions (twist the nozzle on the shower to get it started). Thanks again!
