Rough and Ready was a lovely property tucked away down an unpaved dirt road. We got a little lost, but once you cross a small wooden bridge it is the next property on the left. The house on the property is really awesome. Some of the walls are big windows that are kept open (at least while we were there) and there are lots of trees and plants that make the space feel like it is actually outside. The owners are super friendly and generous and allow you to use their bathroom and living space. There is a huge grassy area outside of the house where we pitched our tent and it felt pretty secluded and private. They also have a really big firepit and lots of wood to use. Our tent was near a bunch of enclosed chickens and turkeys so we were a bit worried they would wake us up in the morning, but we didn't hear them at all. Instead we got to listen to the sound of the little river on the property. We had a really wonderful stay and were only 30 minutes away from one of my favorite yuba river swimming holes. We would definitely come back.
Had an awesome stay at Dylan's place for Memorial Day weekend. The space is very large and private, lots of shade, much more space than at a regular campsite. The house on the property is beautiful and unique, there's a creek, some turkeys/chickens in an enclosure, a wooden swing, a huge fire ring. Hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the hiking and swimming around South Yuba River and Scott's Flat Reservoir, and exploring historic towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City. Highly recommend!
Dylan’s spot was just what we needed: idealic and peaceful. Beautiful trees, creek and swing bench made for a lovely stay. Dylan was extremely helpful with directions to Yuba river, breakfast spots on our way out, and he made sure we were comfortable with the nearby chickens and turkeys (of course we were!). The weather was perfect, our host was wonderful, and a charming toilet/shower were close enough for comfort. I highly recommend this stay if you’re looking for a private getaway a short drive to some of the most beautiful watering holes. Thanks again Dylan!
The place is nice, very clean and safe. Dylan was a great host providing tips and readily available with any needs, we showed up very late and he still showed us around the property and inside the house. We were asked to put out our fire even though the listing said fired allowed - that was a bummer.
If you’re looking for a secluded and private place, this place is not it. The area to set up camp is very close to the property where a family lives in, just a stones throw away, and even though the doors are open to use the bathroom it is not ideal to go hangout in the property like the pictures suggest. Still a great deal for a last minute trip!
This campsite is amazing and the hosts are incredibly nice people! Dylan was very helpful in directing us to nearby swimming holes and answering any questions that we had. The property itself is really beautiful in terms of the campsite, the house, and the surrounding area with the trees and creek. We had so much fun here and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique camping experience!
Dylan and his family were very welcoming, though I did not get to meet Dylan personally. They live in a beautiful and creative house they built where you can use the bathroom and shower and hang out with their dog Domino (or he'll come out to you). The camping aspect is on their lawn which they keep watered even during the summer so it's pretty comfortable to sleep on. There is a lovely little creek to dip your feet in and to lull you to sleep. No fires allowed in summer for obvious reasons, but we were able to grill and sat around the cute fire pit. One thing to note is that there is no picnic table or anything to sit around or do food prep on, I myself brought a folding table for this. Camp chairs were also nice to have around the fire ring since the provided seating are logs and rocks. Address is not marked, they say last house on the left but it looks like the road keeps going, except you'd need a hefty truck to get up that dirt hill, so just stop there, that's the house! Everyone had decent cell service in case you get lost. All in all, a great site. Thanks Dylan!
