Nestled between the chaparral wilderness and majestic Mount Konocti, our 35-acre organic farm boasts many species of plants and wildlife. Expect a hot, shimmering summer in Lake County- luckily, we have lots of shade! Whether it's under an apple, walnut, or oak tree, there are many good reading and resting spots which are sure to help to help you relax and recharge on your visit to our mellow farm. We are a working farm with farmer neighbors, so we do have reasonable quiet hours after 10pm in order for everyone to rest.

We have 2 rustic outdoor showers and a simple communal kitchen with dishware, silverware, and pots and pans. We welcome you to wander our gardens, overlook the vineyard at sunset with a bottle of wine, and enjoy the many birds, lizards, and other wildlife who call this place home. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs- those birds wake up early!

Use our farm as a base camp to explore Clear Lake, the oldest lake in North America and the largest natural lake in California. Other nearby attractions include the popular, free swimming spot Blue Lakes, hundreds of local geocaches, and many hiking trails in the largely unspoiled nature of Lake County. We are 35 minutes away from Harbin Hot Springs, the famous clothing-optional hot springs and retreat center, which also has icy cold plunges and a swimming pool.

Suggested things to bring: sunscreen, hat, ear plugs, tent stakes (it can get alarmingly windy once in a while!), a couple gallons of water for personal use, trash bag to pack out trash, love of lizards, hammock if you've got one (let us know and we'll try to set you up with a hammock-friendly site).

Very nice stay surrounded by fruit trees and chickens. The hosts are sweet people and helped with advice of the surrounding area and generally great to talk to. The farm is right at the base of a beautiful volcanic mountain and very close to activities at the lake, or take a stroll through acres of a working vineyard
The facilities are quite nice - the outdoor shower was a favorite of the fam - and the communal kitchen in the barn really exemplified HIPCAMP!

The only note for those who are sensitive to noise - you can hear frequent cars on the road in front at all hours - if you do not want any vehicle noise this may be an issue - if it doesn’t bother you - than this is a great place to stay.

Blissful two days, surrounded by natural beauty and an abundance of diverse and healthy organic produce punctuated by occasional outrageous laughter from a neighbor’s curious llama. The hosts we’re incredibly welcoming. Their passionate caring for the property that has been in their family for 3 generations was inspiring. The farm posts a “for sale” sign but it would be a TRAGEDY if it fell into anyone else’s hands. No one would love and care as much ( or as conscientiously) for this heirloom treasure as it’s current stewards. They hold a beautiful vision for community sharing of this sacred ground and all that the process of organic farming has to teach us. We feel very lucky to have discovered this site on HipCamp and felt that it was a privilege to be able to stay there.

Camping at Why Farm was an incredible experience. River and her partner were very accommodating and made us feel at home immediately. The farm is very private and quiet. A perfect place to enjoy a rare moment of peace away from the city. The outdoor kitchen and shower are very clean. The location is also very close to Blue Lake and Clear Lake area so you can always easily go swimming and rent a boat near. We had a fantastic weekend!

River’s place is awesome! We would stay there again in a heartbeat. The land is private and unique. River provided excellent suggestions for food and things to explore as well. Saw a deer and a frog while going to the bathroom— that doesn’t happen every day (at least not where I’m from!) Our dog also gives this place (and host) four paws up!

Me and some friends camped here for a weekend getaway. It was a peaceful experience nestled up to Mount Konocti. The outdoor shower was perfect for a hot day, and the communal barn had a big countertop + a stove which made food prepping easy. Thank you for the stay and the peaches!

This was my first time using Hipcamp and I’m a fan! It def gave us all the information we needed to know. Our host was super accommodating. We arrived late on Thurs night but he was able to help us get settled in our spot close to the base of Mt.Konocti! My bf set up camp and we slept underneath the stars on our first night. The next morning, our host showed us around the farm giving us a mini private tour. It felt special because we were the only ones there at the time. We saw arugula, lemon verbena, mulberries and walnuts growing in their natural environment! Later that afternoon we visited Blue Lakes per our host’s recommendation. It was the perfect day to be in the water given it was in the 90s that day. Great way to cool off. We spent most of the day there before heading out to grab some dinner. We slept well that evening despite the loud music in the Airbnb next door. We woke up early to hike up to the summit of Mt.Konocti. Such great views! So excited to visit Lake County again! And when we do, we hope to book this site in the future!

We had the site in the Walnut Orchard, beautiful shaded spots perfect for escaping the hot weather. The farm is gorgeous, and a quick drive to Clearlake State Park.

We had a lovely night camping in the orchard at Why farm. River's property is wonderful with tons of fruit trees, gardens, outdoor showers, chickens, and a community kitchen in a beautiful barn. There are a couple of campsite options nestled across the farm. We camped near the chickens under a big walnut tree which was a very cozy spot. Communication was really clear and we felt so welcome when we arrived. We would definitely come back and camp here again!
