Welcome to private tent camping and small camper van parking amongst the redwoods one mile from Mendocino Village. Get back to basics…join us on the last remnant of California’s wild frontier. We offer three private campsites for tent camping (you bring the tent) or camper vans and small RVs (your total combined vehicle length - tow vehicle + trailer - must be no more than 20’ or you might get stuck getting in here, then you’ll be in a fine old pickle.) I provide the land and the trees, you provide everything else you need from tables and chairs to flashlights and bug repellent. The campground is close to town yet very private.
My sprawling, 1.25 acre Mendocino property is beautifully situated in the redwoods. Washer and dryer is available as is WiFi (remember, if you don't connect to WiFi you won't have to answer any messages.) Facilities are an extremely well maintained porta potty (hey, it's camping!) Sorry but Smokey says "no campfires” and there is no guest shower to enhance the experience of ‘roughing it.’
I'm here to offer any help as needed during your stay. I want you to have at least ‘quite a pleasant time,’ at best ‘a life-changing experience’ while visiting the coast. I've lived here for twenty-something years and can give you information about places to hike along the headlands, trails to discover in the forest plus all the local gossip. We can also discuss Mendocino's days as a lumber town in the 1800s and 1900s, its counter culture links to the back-to-the-land movement of the late '60s and early '70s and whether today ‘the old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born.’
Two minutes west of the campground is the once frontier town of Mendocino with restaurants, a well stocked market, art galleries, wine tasting and an eclectic mix of urban and rural types. Five minutes east of here is the wilderness of Jackson State Forest with tens of thousands of acres of forestland and wildlife and the inherent risks associated with both. The Mendocino coast offers kayaking, river canoeing, equestrian trail riding, pot growing, places of historic interest, spiritual eccentricities, aging hippies living in cabins in the woods and miles of public land for hiking and biking. You can also just sit quietly under the trees and stare blankly into the distance.

Richard greeted me upon arrival and was extremely kind. The property was easy to get to and very serene and comfortable with beautiful trees. And as promised, the bathroom was extremely clean!
Exceeded expectations! amazing host
Richard’s place was phenomenal. He was very responsive after I booked, even when in London. A quick phone call was unsolicited to make sure our stay was flawless for our 2 year old’s first camping trip in our RV. It was perfect, quiet and beautiful. Our dog loved the space as well. Bonus that our son had a playmate with his 3 year old grandson - he was so polite and sweet. We may make this an annual visit - the overall RV trip was a wonderful success!
Great Host! Had a great time reading through the trail guide and historical reading material provided, clean bathroom and water!
Quiet, and private. Will definitely consider again next time
If you have the opportunity, you should absolutely stay here! First of all, Richard is such an accommodating and welcoming host. He was so attentive and took the time to not only show me the grounds, but to share a bit about the history of Mendocino, where to go in town, hike options, beach access, etc. It was my most favorite night of camping because it was so peaceful and serene despite having other campers there as well. I was in a little nook under the trees and felt so safe. GO HERE!
Great option just outside mendocino
Richard’s place is so conveniently located just outside Mendocino - yet beautiful and quiet. He welcomed us and provided us with a lot of helpful information (including a print out with lots of helpful info).
Perfect stopover near mendocino
A really great spot for a stop-over near Mendocino. About five minutes drive from the town, the location was good for accessing everything this area has to offer. Richard was the perfect host and made the experience feel personal without being intrusive. Wifi and toilet worked well and the whole site was very clean and wholesome. The redwoods are beautiful, and the site itself flat and green - it was nice to have the trees all round, but also have the benefits of a clearing. Some traffic noise during evening rush hour, but this is normal for this part of the coast, and didn't spoil our stay. Very peaceful over night and in the morning.
