Be sure to let me know the day before arrival of expected ETA and then keep me up to date on that as I always hope to receive guests. I would like guests to arrive before or soon after dark if possible, but no later than 11 pm.
By the way, I have rooms available for those who don't want to camp. Comfy, arty spaces. They are $75/night for two.
This is a very artistic and rustic property right in town, near the train station. It is nestled against a small hill that offers fantastic views in all directions.
We have many hiking opportunities, a sweet downtown (with a creek), a small lake in town and the vast Pacific Ocean about 10 miles away. There are oodles of beaches, a protected bay with all the water sports you can imagine and close access to the world famous Big Sur coast.

The vibe at Alternative Spot
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Pete was a great host. He was friendly and helpful and offered everything we needed. His place is very interesting and it was a unique experience to see his property. I would recommend this spot without hesitation.
Super unique spot! Pete is a wonderful host. His two small dogs are a joy to be around. This property has a lot to look at and enjoy. There's beautiful foliage around the camping spot in the front (and back, if you choose!) to the collection of sculptures and mirrors within the yard, this place is definitely unique. Don't miss the tire swing on the tree on the hill behind the property's gate! I would recommend staying here in a heart beat.
Pete is a lovely guy and his place is super quirky and really comfortable. We ended up arriving a lot later than planned but kindly Pete was still there to greet us and let us know what was what. He has two beautiful lil doggies who were an absolute pleasure. Would've been great to have more time there but we unfortunately only had one night, but would definitely recommend to anyone heading to the area. Thanks again Pete!
Pete was a great host! He was warm and welcoming. I love the feel of the house, it is vintage and homey. There are plenty of spots to set up the tent. He allowed me to stay in his little room in the back of the house. Cooper and Tani were also amazing ( those are his pet dogs).
Very, very cool spot. Pete was such a sweet host-welcomed us with a beaming smile, gave great recommendations, and was very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place, however try to arrive early or arrange to have a space in the backyard. We camped in the front space and it was pretty close to the front, neighborhood street under a street light which made sleeping a little awkward for us- kinda felt like sleeping in my parents yard. Thanks, again pete!
Amazing place. Reviews can’t accurately describe the flavor, eclecticism or beauty of this property. A mix of antique yard meets botanical garden meets your parents house with more interior design thought put into it. Pete was very welcoming and nearly everything is at your disposal. All the other guests there seem to know that this is a place of respect and a place to enjoy and relax. So as long as you follow common curtesy and a few bathroom rules you will be a great guest. The back spots up on the hill sit right up against the back of the property and have an amazing view of the sunset and mountains. Also great if you want to catch a peek at the local farmers grazing their free range goats just a stones throw more up the back of the hill the property is up against. Also his dogs are adorable. Only emoji appropriate for them is: 😭
Great location. Easy to find. San Luis Obispo is a great town! Pete was friendly and helpful. Loved the dogs as well. It was just right as we were just traveling through and needed a nice place to stop and camp for the night. Perfect for what we needed! Thanks again!!
