The vibe at Rideout Hideout Carrizo Plain
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The Rideout Hideout campsite had open space and peaceful views that stretched for miles. The golden plains and wildlife made our camping experience feel like a safari in another country. With the Caliente mountain range, Painted Rock and the Carrizo Monument so close, great hiking and views are only a few minutes away. We saw dozens of shooting stars in the clear summer night sky as well as had a great time around the fire. This is a great place if you're looking for a quiet, tranquil, open space where you can do as much exploring as you want.
Everything you need (peace, quiet and nature) and everything you don't (congestion, media, connectivity).
2.5 hours from Santa Barbara and you feel like you're in your own world. Of our two days there, we saw only one other vehicle drive by the property.
Fantastic sky viewing at night with very little light pollution nearby. Expansive high-desert views out onto Soda Lake (NW of property).
Short hike up into the Caliente foothills broadens your views 360 degrees.
Fire pit keeps you toasty into the cooler nights.
Great place to visit - great host to work with too!
Carrizo Plains is a magical place and the Rideout Hideout makes you feel like you're a million mile away. There's something very powerful about looking out into 50 miles of open space.
Todd's site is gorgeous, you can hop on a hill and in 5 min have expansive views of the plains. There's plenty of firewood, and a handy table for cooking. I love spending time out there and look forward to more of it.
This is one of the most unique and quiet campsites I've ever enjoyed so close to home (Goleta). Perk #1 - There is *no one* around, especially during the middle of the week during this season. Perk #2 - The stars: One of the few "big sky country" feeling places close to the south coast. Perk #3 - Did I mention the awesome solitude and quietude?????
Perk #4 - The avian wildlife is extremeley entertaining. This is where I'm going for wildflower season, hands down!!
