The vibe at Oak Tree Camp
Places to see near Retreat to the country and Ride
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We had a wonderful time at Oak Tree! The site is spacious with a fire barrel + wood, picnic table, and private porta-pottie. Everyone we met on the ranch was super friendly and welcoming - especially the dogs! We didn't have time to horseback ride, but super nice to have the option. We did walk around the ranch and pet the horses, see the goats, and took a little hike down the road among the beautiful hillside land. One of the ranch dogs even came along as our guide!
The town of San Miguel doesn't have a lot going on, but it's a quick 20-30 minute drive to Paso Robles which has great restaurants, grocery stores, etc. There are also a TON of wineries around the area to do wine tasting.
You can have as much privacy as you want at the site, though you are in eyeshot of one of the resident dwellings. It's very quiet at night with really amazing star gazing - very relaxing. FYI - as of our stay they didn't have the showers up and running yet , so if that's a priority for you be sure and ask them about it when you request to book. Also be careful of leaving any food or trash out because the ranch dogs are really cute, but they're also sneaky thieves ;-)
We had a great time at Oak Tree - highly recommended!
Kelly and her family run a beautiful ranch outside of Paso Robles. Campsites are clean and but a little close together. On our visit we shared the general campground with two other groups who were very courteous and fun to camp with.
The real bonus here is the horseback riding. Our daughter loved it. Great horses and easy rides with beautiful views of the oak savannas that surround the ranch.
Looking forward to returning. Super fun camping experience!
We had a really great time at "Oak camp / Work Ranch"! Beautiful horses, friendly goats, sweet dogs, and Charlie the cat make it even better:-) Beautiful relaxing spot, and very conveniently located near wineries. Good times
Good stay for the price
This is a great campsite location, if you're new to camping or looking for a weekend getaway. Kelly and Dean were very helpful and accommodating. There are horses on the property and you can schedule a horseback ride, if you want. There are wineries nearby and we took advantage of the location. The hiking options are limited, but other than that -- a good spot to go and unwind in the country.
40 mins away from Paso Robles, wineries are just 20 minutes. Nearest albertsons/grocery shop is 30 mins away. So ensure to get water/grocery etc at San Miguel or Paso Robles itself.
Kelly ensured we had enough wood for the rainy, windy May long weekend this year. There is a portable toilet near the site which was clean. There are 2 flush-able toilets near the entrance, which is a small walk from the camp sites. These are mainly for folks driving in for horse riding, we ended up discovering it and using it on our check out day. They have horses on the ranch if you want to go for a ride, a family went on a ride when we were checking out.
Overall a nice stay.
Kelly was a wonderful host. Overall, we very much enjoyed our experience there and definitely plan to be back again.
The highlight was the horse back riding over the rolling hills.
Kelly was super nice with leading/teaching kids the basics. All horses were amazingly well-trained.
When we arrived the ranch, it was raining a bit on and off. Kelly kindly offered us a tent where there is a double bed and 2 camping cots in case we prefer not to pitch a tent while raining. We waited a bit til rain stops and pitched our tent anyway and worked out fine. But having the option in case weather gets worsen was great.
There are quite a few wineries near the property so it's a good weekend relaxing gataway.
There are total of 3 camp sites where they are relatively close to each other. There is also to a trailer home where one of the helpers lives. So, it's not like you would be pitching a tent where you would not see anyone else but nature.
I thought I mention it.
