About Retreat to the country and Ride
The history of the Work family ranch goes back to 1887. Many other families homesteaded in this beautiful canyon but hard times kept them moving closer to town. There was once a one room school house that the children of Hog Canyon and Ranchita Canyon attended. The ranch was and still is headquarters to a grain farming, cow-calf herd of angus cattle, and a wildlife management program. Our newest enterprise, the Trail Rides, is 18 years old and is now being operated by the 5th generation of Work's! The ranch is 12,000 acres of beautiful rangeland in the rolling hills of the Cholame Valley.

The Cowboy Cabin at Work Ranch was such a fun little place to stay! With horse back riding, hiking trails and wineries just minutes away or just a place to sit back and relax you'll be full of fun things to do. Filled with beds and accommodations you could go with a big group or just with your special someone. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans so no need to bring your whole kitchen with you which was really nice. The bathroom had a really beautiful shower with the water running hot. The staff was really friendly and helpful and of course all the horses and farm animals created such a nice environment. A perfect place to stay, go for a horse back ride and wind down and have a glass of wine and the end of the day. Perfect little get a way.
My friends and I had an amazing time at Cowboy Cabin. We rode through velvety-green rolling hills among various wildflowers. We observed and even helped move a young heifer and her calf to a nearby pasture. We enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by the hostess in our retro cabin, and a bonfire complete with s'mores. I will definitely return to the Cowboy Cabin!!!
