Our site is a 10-acre homestead and working organic farm close to epic beaches and wide open nature in Bolinas. We're surrounded by preserved agricultural property and Pt. Reyes National Seashore, so you'll really feel like you've escaped the city. You’ll love our land because of the bounty of organic produce from our on-site farm, our cute sheep and llamas, abundant bird and wildlife, nearby hiking trails, surf spots and live music at Smiley's Saloon. Hipcamp guests are an integral part of our farmstead: you help us keep small-scale organic farming alive and rent affordable for our resident team who live in 4 houses on the property.
BYO TENT SPACE: We have space for a group of 4 campers max for BYO. Preferably no more than 2 tents, but I'm flexible as long as they aren't huge.
KIDS: at this time, we can't host young children under 12 as we are a working farm with related hazards such as electric fences, poison oak, open ponds and heavy equipment.
COOKING/FOOD STORAGE: We have a modest 8x12 outdoor camp kitchen shed with fridge, small freezer, coffee maker, cooking tools, eating utensils, storage and prep space. Bring a cooler for storing food & bev if you're cooking multiple meals as the fridge is shared by all and can run short on space. We have 2 shared charcoal grills for cooking. Please bring charcoal if you want to grill.
CAMPFIRES: We have 2 communal fire rings with seating (chairs and stumps). Bring wood and paper. You are also welcome to gather wood and kindling from the property, but it's tough to see at night. No fires outside of these 2 rings.
PETS: trained, well behaved dogs are OK, but must be kept on a leash and attended at all times. We have free ranging chickens, ducks, cats, sheep and a llama that don't like to be chased (or attacked) by unfamiliar doggies.
GAMES & LEISURE: We have a big meadow that is great for yoga and sunbathing. We also have cornhole and bocce.
NEARBY: Once you've reserved your tent cabin, I'll email you my go-to list of nearby activities, restaurants, hikes and rentals.
RESTAURANTS & STORES: There are three restaurants and a coffee stand in town about 1.5 miles away. General Store and Grocery close at 6pm.
Don't forget: layers of clothing (it can get cold and damp at night), closed-toe shoes or boots, headlamp or flashlight, ice, secure cooler, sleeping bag, towel, pillow, reusable water bottle, Tecnu soap or wipes for poison oak encounters and sunscreen.
We're close to the Palomarin Trailhead (3 miles), Pt. Reyes Bird Observatory (3 miles), downtown Bolinas (1.5 miles), Commonweal Retreat Center (1.8 miles) and RCA Beach (2 miles).

Bring-your-own tent site - wow!
My boyfriend and I loved staying at Big Mesa Farm for our weekend camping getaway. Ashley was a fantastic host. The site had hot (outdoor) showers, compost toilets, picnic area and a grill with fresh water set up for us. Ashley brought us some fresh-cut, homegrown organic lettuce straight from the field for our burgers! Will definitely bring friends and family back to stay again.
Great camping at big mesa farm 🏕
We loved spending 4th of July at Big Mesa Farms. It was a beautiful location with an awesome outdoor kitchen space next to a pond and fire pit. The bathroom facility was great and the hot shower was on point. We got to explore the property and Ashley showed us Cheryl the llama and the herd of sheep at the farm. We had a blast. We were looking for a great camping experience close to SF and we found it here. Easy drive to visit Pt Reyes, Hog Island Oyster and hiking adventures in Marin. Ashley was a great host and we would definitely come back again. Would love to try one of the tent cabins and also come back with a big group to rent one of the houses on the property.
Spacious, full of amenities
Our stay was the best. Ashley was such a welcoming host and the site was gorgeous - very spacious, unexpectedly great amenities like an outdoor shower and outdoor grill and indoor fridge and kitchen storage items. And the views of the mountains over the little water hole was beautiful. Highly recommend
The farm is awesome!!!
Staying at the farm was an awesome experience. Ashley and friends where really welcoming and had great suggestions about the area. The kitchen set up took camping to another level. We where able to make some amazing meals and had everything we needed to cook. The firepit was awesome to hang out and relax at the end of the day. The bathrooms and showers where really good. Its pretty cool being able to brush your teeth at a sink and have deer go walking by a few feet away. Lots of wildlife, one of the best camping experiences Ive had in a long time! Will be back!
This place was great!! We chatted with the cows on the way in, and picked a few blackberries on our way out. You get the best of everything here! True tent camping, but the outside kitchen with electricity was so convenient! Plus taking a private hot shower while still being in nature... ugh!! This whole property is such a gem. Plus there were homemade muffins waiting for us when we arrived! We hope to come back!
P.s. Raccoons WILL somehow open the kitchen door even if you latch it (I think it needs locked or something and we couldn’t do that?) and eat anything you bring with sugar in the first few ingredients. But like.. did you really go camping if raccoons didn’t steal something from you?
A lovely getaway
Ashley’s farm exceeded our expectations. The space is so lovely, and it’s very well maintained. Loved the little touches like the outdoor bathroom and showers with soap and flowers and the fresh bottled water and breakfast muffins. We’re looking forward to staying at Mesa Farms again.
Big mesa Farms is a dreamy little hideaway in Bolinas. The place is set for you to relax and enjoy all the sounds of nature. I loved the little goats and sounds of coyotes at night. Its so great to escape the city and be able to star gaze near the ocean.I will be back again for sure.
