Pitch your tent on the edge of an amazing meadow or under towering trees. Each campsite has its own picnic table and fire ring with fresh spring water nearby. Redwood forest, open meadows, elk, and deer are all part of the experience. We require a two night minimum stay during the week due to the trip into the property. It involves a locked gate and then a two mile drive through a 5000 acre ranch. We guide you in and give you a map and a gate key. It takes extra effort on our part and keeps guests from getting lost. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean. "Peaceful" is what this place feels like.
Each camp site is visibly separate from those nearby. There is a large lined pond filled with spring water for swimming and water fun that is shared by people on site.
The town of Blue Lake is 10 minutes away. Home of the Mad River Brewery, Dell'Arte International Theatre and School, Logger Bar (mellow vibe), Mad River Festival, and Blue Lake Casino and Hotel, and the Mad River

The vibe at Prairie’s Edge
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Our family had a great time at Praries Edge. We only stayed one night as a stop on a cross country road trip. I wish we could have stayed longer. Linda and Shane were great hosts and went above and beyond to accommodate us. We enjoyed exploring the property and the views are amazing. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Prairie’s Edge is an unbelievable location for camping. Beautiful and secluded. Lots of terrain to explore. Super welcoming and gracious hosts. I was there for a weekend with my daughter and we both loved the spot. Can’t wait to return!
This land was amazing! It’s just far enough away from the ocean that you’re not soggy in the mornings, but close enough that you get that cool coastal weather. The drive is long getting in but it’s totally worth it. Bring bug spray though! Linda and Mark (?) were great hosts, they made sure I had what I needed, and then left me alone to the peace and quiet that I was looking for. Would definitely come back here again, and soon before everyone finds out about it!
Linda and Shane are awesome hosts! The windy, steep drive up to their property is an adventure in itself! It starts in fern covered redwood forest and as you climb up, turns into prairie with an amazing view of surrounding mountains and the ocean! The campsite area dips back down into shaded forest where the temperature stays nice and cool. I camped at site #1 adjacent to the pond. The site is equipped with a nice picnic table, established fire pit, and communal compost toilet just a few steps away. Make sure to hike or drive up to the top of the property for sunset...it's unreal! I felt very much in the wild here, with sites and sounds of all kinds of birds surrounding me! The beach is only 20 mins away, and the Redwood parks are maybe 30min-1 hour. This spot is very peaceful and I would definitely recommend staying a few nights!
