The vibe at SAGE Camping Deck
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
I loved staying at Tammys place. The site was perfect with a fire pit nearby along with two hammocks and a trampoline on the property, perfect for stargazing at night. I would definitely come again.
Very vibrant and cool campground. We had booked Sage, but stayed at the one in the back (I forget the name). Tammy is very nice and greeted us when we arrived at 3pm. Each camp site has a raised platform like the ones in the photos for you to make your tent on. Its a 10-15 min drive to the local town for things like firewood (we got from Walmart) and coffee in the morning from AM/PM. Bathroom is a port-o-potty that is verrry clean and no smell nor bugs. There's a sink with running water right outside for proper handwashing (as well as teeth brushing, dish cleaning, etc. Very useful.) There is a (curtained and private) outdoor shower, which we didn't use.
The road leading to Tammy's campground is unpaved but just take it slow.
The whole site is 10 minutes from the main JTNP entrance... very close!
We'd definitely recommend this place!
Fun and funky place to camp. This is certainly a non-traditional campground. It’s an eclectic mix of old furniture and artistic inspiration on a homeowners property in the desert. Although you’re pretty close to your neighbors, it feels more like a day at summer camp than camping. Tammy has done some interesting things. I would love to see it after the bottle house bathroom is built. Worth checking out for an interesting experience. Note you don’t need tables and chairs because there are plenty here.
Super cute place! Found this place last minute after finding out that camping in Joshua Tree was full. Tammy Sioux responded within a couple hours and was there too meet us when we got there. She showed us around her property, introduced us to her horses, and left us to do our own thing. There's a sink, a shower, and a porta-potty that's all well kept. Only about 3 mile drive from the Joshua Tree national park entrance so we hiked in the park during the day and came back for hot chocolate by the campfire. We brought our dog too and she loved it! Oh and we never lost reception so we were able to keep in touch with family back home. The campsites are pretty close together but no one else was camping when we went so it was very private. All in all, it was a very fun and safe site!
Tammy was a gracious host! The SAGE deck was the perfect location away from Joshua Tree National Park, and the amenities (shower, running water + sink, fire pits, benches, tables, etc.) were all in great condition. 5/5, would come again on another Joshua Tree camping excursion!
A few tips for staying at the SAGE camping deck:
- After parking, the SAGE deck is the *first* deck on the right after passing the outhouse. In darkness, the "SAGE" sign is a bit hard to see. There are other decks on the property, so it's easy to get confused in the night.
- The hot water heater is gas & battery-powered (propane & 2x D-cell batteries) - check underneath the water heater's enclosure for an on-off switch, and make sure to turn the hot water faucet *hard* counterclockwise for the unit to kick on.
- Bring ear plugs! There are dogs and horses on the property, so if you're a light sleeper like me, you'll appreciate having brought ear plugs.
Great spot. Great host and very convenient (bathroom and running water) and less than 10 minutes from the park. Didn’t feel quite like camping because we were very close to other houses and furniture and craft materials. But overall enjoyed our stay.
Located less than a 20 minute drive from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, this campsite is very convenient for those looking to spend time in the park. There is ample space for 2-3 tents, a fire pit, a sink and a luxurious outdoor shower. A great choice.
