The vibe at Pantilokpom Creek Side Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Staying in a cabin at Pantilokpom was dreamy- I honestly did not want to leave. I took my mother up and over the mountains to this place with a destination that seemed so far from anywhere familiar. Aside from terrain so reminiscent of my childhood, I'd never known communities tucked so far back amongst forgotten highways and recently paved roads. We were greeted by Davide, an Italian by way of Mexico City. He was the designated host- so accommodating and kind. After setting us up in our perfect little cabin, we shared delicious beers and toasted to travels and adventures. Having arrived after dark, he built up our anticipation of beautiful morning pond views which did not disappoint. Although we didn't get the opportunity to meet Joyce, the owner and visionary behind this beautiful property, I read about her impressive background in architecture and her use of natural materials in her buildings. She owns and runs the hostel in nearby Arcata and knows a thing or two about international travelers and creating the perfect hosting experience. There are so many resources for the multiple outdoor kitchens, that you can arrange to not have to bring any of your own implements. You will not be near a store, so ensure you have everything you need. Water, electricity, propane, wifi, and tools are all available on site.
We stayed at Pantilokpom with our two kids (4 and 6). There was a another group of campers and we had plenty of space for everyone. During the day the kids would go looking for frogs or paddle the canoe in the pond. The common kitchen has two fireplaces and pots and pans. We enjoyed our time and Joyce came down to chat with all of the groups over a glass of wine on our last night.
This place is a real gem! We rolled up mid day and found Joyce in her recycled hemp adobe cottage, who couldn't be cooler. Super helpful. Showed us around the grounds and left us to set up and enjoy the peace and quiet of the creek (which runs through the property). We brought our camping kit, but somehow forgot to bring a wine opener and a french press, so were really appreciative to find the outdoor kitchen / prep area stocked with everything we'd forgotten: pots and pans, utensils, french presses.. There's a hose with potable water right there as well. Great place - great host. Kind of a magic spot. Thanks Joyce!
Great escape from the valley below, nice and secluded about 10 miles in off the nearest road, Pantilokpom has a beautiful pond great for cooling off, which also feature a zip line, canoe and paddle board. Really great camp site with cabins, outhouses, hammocks, and a nice heated shower. The pond is really cool and from the canoe and paddle board you can see all kinds of creatures. The nearby creek is also cooling and relaxing. Great place to just chill. The cube thing is awesome! Joyce is super nice and helpful and a wonderful host. This is a really magical place.
Awesomely unique place! We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves so that was magical in and of itself.
Be aware - It's a drive to get to the spot and getting there at night is even trickier because GPS isn't accurate, AND there's no reception. Fortunately, we were able to obtain written instructions. Recommend you try to get there before dark.
Great place for the whole family. There are so many activities; zip line to pond, kayak, boat, stand up paddle, creek, hammocks, outdoor kitchen, outhouse, disc golf baskets!
What an amazing, peaceful, welcoming and relaxing place! The hosts are amazing, graceful and engaging, the camping was easy, the terrain beautiful. I will definitely want to come back. Our kids (2 families, 4 kids between 5yrs and 8 yrs) had a TOTAL blast. Highly recommend Pantilokpom!!!
