Come visit our beautiful 20 acre property in quiet, scenic Bangor. We are Christians (Catholic and Mennonite) and invite you to stay in our little cabin for a prayerful time during Lent or any other time of the year. Read, walk, write, stargaze, sleep, meditate/pray, swim, and chat with friendly people; come feel closer to God and Jesus.
The cabin is a single room with: a deck, electricity but no internet as it is far from the landowners' main house, a queen sized bed with clean cozy bedding, heater, table, rugs, space on the floor for another mattress or pads if you wish to bring more than two people. Families also most welcome!
You will experience the absolute quiet of nature with its unique sounds and inhabitants (water birds, frogs, deer, fox, rabbits), in a gorgeous cabin with a small deck. There is another cabin a few feet away that can also be booked together.
A compost toilet outhouse is close to the cabin. Walking the trails up toward the main house where the land owners live, you will find an out-dwelling with a small but fully equipped guest kitchen (fridge, stove, utensils, etc. ; no microwave) and a full bathroom with hot shower.
You will need to walk down a gentle dirt path for about 5 minutes from the parking to the cabin and stream. The camp kitchen and shower/toilet is at the parking area.
The kitchen is just for preparing meals as it has no seating but you are welcome to sit at any of the outdoor tables or bring your meal back to the cabin. It is equipped with pots, pans, dishes, coffee grinder and drip filter, toaster, blender, Butte County olive oil, salt, pepper, fridge, and propane 2 burner stove.
A fire-pit is available for use in this area as well (depending on season) but please speak with one of us before using.
We are surrounded by hundreds of acres of protected land, so this is truly a retreat space. Oaks, gentle trails, open starry sky, and the sweet waters of our year-round creek with its 100 feet long 12 feet deep swimming hole. In the winter, the rocky boulders by the creek provide calm meditation spots, and there is much walking and resting to be had.
We are about 2.5 - 3 hrs from San Francisco (during non-rush hour times) and about 1 hr. 15 mins from Sacramento.
You can attend Mass in either Oroville or Challenge - both about 25 minutes away.
To find wonderful places to explore for food and wine nearby visit the Bangor Bake Shoppe, sierraoro-dot-org, and Cafe Collage in Oregon House - to name just a few.

I had a wonderful overnight in the larger of the two cabins. I arrived later in the afternoon after Lis had left for the evening, but the directions and instructions she left were excellent and I had no problem finding my way around. The cabins are very close to the water in a quiet little area at the bottom of a hill. The cabin itself had a very comfortable bed, electricity, a table and chairs, a heater, and they had left me water, tea and an electric kettle. The heater kept the cabin cozy all night as temperatures dropped (mid-December). The bathroom/kitchen building and parking area are at the top of the hill near the main house, not a far distance but be aware it's a big climb. I traveled with my dog, there was no problem having her. I had a peaceful trip and would go back in any season.
Great hosts, property, and cabin! Lis and her family were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We had a great time hiking the grounds and checking out the creek. The kitchen was perfect for two to cook meals in and there were lots of beautiful spots to sit and eat. Would come again in the summertime. Thanks Lis!
The cabins were great, very comfortable and had everything you could need. The cabins are also right near an amazing swimming hole. Its absolutely perfect on a warm day. The two cabins are down a hill away from the two main houses so they are private, however the kitchen and full bathroom are between the two houses so keep that in mind when cooking/bathing, etc. We also brought our dog, who loved the property- if you do bring a dog please keep in mind there is a property dog (Dutch) and dogs that live with the sheep (I am unsure if that is all the time) who are in close proximity to the cabins. The property puppy, Dutch, its also great! Overall, it was amazing and would definitely stay there again.
Beautiful quiet spot! Perfect for a weekend of relaxation away from the Bay Area. As the picture showed, the cabin was very charming and stayed relatively cool considering how hot it was outside. Loved being able to make food in the cute tiny kitchen and sit outside the barn for dinner. The swimming hole was just amazing, and the water was actually warm enough to swim in. Loved every part of our weekend!! Our only regret is staying one night instead of two to spend more time swimming.
