Desert Camping in the Middle of No-Where.! There is literally nothing but wild desert for miles in every direction! Lots of open space! Open Sky! Places to go hiking. Lizards, foxes, and birds. It is less than a 10 mile drive to the nearest stores and restaurants. There are a few miles of dirt road driving but all roads are well maintained and safe for all vehicle types.

The sunsets are beautiful here and there are lots of nearby areas where shooting is allowed and other desert activities. We can give you advice if you want to go rock hunting, shooting, picture taking, hiking and more. Let us know your ideas for larger groups.

We are also a great area for viewing meteor showers and astrological events as we have very little light pollution because of our distance from civilization.

We are building the campground up and there is currently a gathering area that large groups can use but it is still under development. There is also a nonprofit here doing off-grid research and a fenced in area for that which we are still working on. Please let us know if you want the tour.

Come and check us out and help us grow. We will be progressing quickly!

Matthew’s place was perfect for a 2020 Memorial weekend getaway from quarantine life. I drove in from OC, with my dog and we were able to choose our site as there weren’t a lot of spots taken yet. My friends came, so there ended up being 5 of us altogether, (it is motorcycle-accessible). His dogs on the property are sweet little greeters. There are communal fire pits and couches, a great spot to meet new people at. It can be very windy, so bring tent stakes that are really good. A dust devil came and took my tent and contents at one point. It was hilarious, watching it fly 50’ up and empty all our bedding strewn about. There are little plants that itch, so take shoes / hiking boots. We had a campfire both nights and loved being able to see all the stars in the sky. My dog Tamale was able to be off leash, most of the time but there are fun little critters to chase, so we kept her close. There were many other campers that showed up, but it was surprisingly very quiet. We purchased wood and ice from Matthew with Venmo. We hiked. It was perfect. There is a pit toilet that’s very clean, but bring a roll of TP! Also bring garbage bags for your stuff. He takes recycled products for no charge.

We too a 30min drive into Barstow to hit up Walmart for some extra necessities.

The wildlife we saw during our 3day trip: chipmunks, tortoise, alligator lizards & a gopher snake. There are small foxes, but unfortunately we didn’t see any.

We will be back.

What an amazing desert campsite! Matt was a great host and his property is beautiful. He checked in with us each afternoon to see how things were going and to restock us on firewood. His dogs also came by the site a lot; they were super cute and liked playing with our pups too. I didn't check out too much of the communal space due to covid, but I was impressed by the large fire ring in the center of the property and the "bar" area looked like a cool place to hang out. The sites were spread out nicely but not completely cut off from one another...something I don't mind but could be important if you're looking for full isolation. We could see and faintly hear neighbors but we definitely were not stacked right next to each other like more traditional campgrounds. One of the best parts was walking the dirt paths around the site; we took the dogs for lots of walks and our friends even did some trail running before it got too hot. The scenery was gorgeous and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing.

I'd highly recommend NightJar to anyone looking for a relaxed, fun, and scenic desert getaway that's convenient to get to!

Loved the place! Easy access, but far enough from freeways to not be bothered by them. Would definitely return, and give myself more time to go rock exploring with the hosts.

This place has amazing mountain views and beautiful sunsets. Matt is super nice and it's easy to find and get to. The area is full of awesome rocks in shades of green, blue and purple. Perfect for DIY campers or anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience some peaceful desert views.

Great spot. Far enough from everything, yet pretty easy to reach. Friendly hosts. Campsites sparse enough from each other.

The privacy that the property provided was perfect! Unfortunately my group wasn't able to stay for the full reservation due to the weather, but I would absolutely stay at the residence again if given the opportunity! Matthew was so helpful with all of our questions and he even helped us out with directions when we got a little lost. Definitely would recommend staying here!

Very isolated as you would expect from a campground out in the desert. Felt safe and relaxed my entire stay. Host's are accommodating and will definitely go again sometime.
