Tucked away in Cougar Canyon just North of Escondido, Needles and Spines Fiber Farm houses 8 acres of space that backs up to an additional 700 acres of land preserve with a main trail/powerline road throughout.
On the land you will find a couple of camp spots to choose from. Both campsites you can drive straight up to on a dirt road and unload. Campsite 1 is a good deal larger but does have a domesticated bee colony/box at it. Campsite 2 supports 4 people but is best with just 1 tent. We have alpacas, sheep, chickens, and 2 dogs. We also have a honey bee colony (which is at campsite 1 at the moment so please take this into consideration if anyone in your group has an allergy or fear). On most Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings there is a farm stand next door. Our property has several small trails throughout the chaparral for exploring and a short drive down the road is Daley Ranch and Dixon Lake with an extensive network of trails for hiking, biking, and horse back riding as well as fishing in Dixon Lake. Please note, Dixon Lake and Daly Ranch is not at our property, but is a 10 minute drive away.
If you have more than 4 people you can reserve both sites and either use both sites or all stay together at campsite 1 which is larger.
We are centrally located 30 minutes from the beaches, 45 minutes to the mountains, and a little over an hour to the desert.

We had a wonderful weekend at this sweet family ranch! The hosts were amazing, the property was beautiful with a few secluded locations perfect for camping under the stars and oaks. The fact that it’s an agave farm, the kids were able to help feed the alpacas and sheep, and our site was nestled up to some trails were all added bonuses! We purchased a few agave plants and the softest alpaca/wool blend yarn to bring a few pieces of this place home with us.

Such a fun and beautiful property! We had the whole site to ourselves and there was an abundance of trails and boulders to explore. There is a ton of space to set up camp and you have a lot of privacy, not to mention it was so peaceful and quiet. We camped at site 1 with the bee box, but honestly we didn't even notice they were there. Was not a bother at all. The group of really cute Alpacas added to the adventure, as well. Grace is an awesome host and we will return in the future.

We had a great time. Grace was welcoming and so polite and nice. We enjoyed the quiet and loved camping. Our kids had a great time climbing and hanging out on the massive boulders. We would camp there again!
We had a great time here. The campsite was spacious and well kept, with a fire pit area to have a nice camp fire. Grace was very kind and let us have some time with the alpacas and sheep on the farm. We purchased some citrus from her as well which was so fresh and delicious! We had a great stay, and would definitely come back.
Great little camping spot in the hills. We stayed at Site 1 near the bee box - no issues at all and it was spacious, shaded, and flat. We loved meeting Grace and Jeremy and definitely enjoyed the fruits of their various labors - we purchased sourdough, eggs, firewood and yarn from these talented and gracious hosts. Grace took us to visit with the alpacas and Jeremy shared his amazing greenhouse. It was easy to find and fun to explore the trails around the campsite. There are also several hiking trails nearby, we chose a long trek around Lake Hodges about 25 min from the property. I’m sure we will be back!
We had a great time camping here. They have the cutest alpacas ever! We will definitely visit again. I recommend trying their homemade sourdough.
It felt like we were far away from the hustle and bustle of ordinary life. The farm was so peaceful and our hosts were amazing. We arrived at our campsite and found our bundles of firewood all lined up and ready to go, then Grace arrived shortly after with a fresh baked loaf of sourdough bread and fresh layed hen eggs to add to our provisions. The view from the hillside was absolutely beautiful. We watched the moon rise up over the mountains and the stars and constellations were in full panoramic view throughout the evening. Driving back into the camping sites, the road is a bit narrow, but if you go slow, you'll be fine. Be prepared for a short uphill walk to access the bathroom that is inside a cute little one room cottage on the property, it was clean and well kept. Bonus was getting to say hello to the sheep on that side of the property each time we had to use the facilities. We saw a lot of beautiful birds, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and a couple of hawks during our stay as well. I would highly recommend camping here and plan to come back again with my family.
