Mossy Bench is in the Santa Cruz Mountains, but just 3 miles to a spectacular beach on the Pacific Ocean. Santa Cruz is just 12 miles away. The camp has great tables and benches, but bring lawn chairs. Mossy Bench can take one group of up to two people. This is not a place for noisy gatherings. We recommend checking in before 9pm as the road to the camp can be difficult for low slung sedans. Bring a flashlight for trips to the bathroom at the main house. Cell service can be spotty, but there is WIFI at the main house.

I stayed here on my own for a few nights, and it was an absolute joy. It's in the middle of a grove of redwoods and offers 4.5 acres of beautiful woods to explore. It's also got ample seating around the campfire, a stove, and the option to use a real bathroom, which is nice if you end up going on long hikes around Santa Cruz during the day (I highly recommend Wilder Ranch for hiking). The campsite is next to a B&B (but still secluded), and the owners and volunteers are a delightful group – willing to help out if you need anything. I also tagged along while they tended to the animals one morning and go to meet sheep, turkeys, chickens, and rabbits. I'm definitely planning on staying here again.
Easy to find, great campsite not far off the 1. Nestled in the redwoods, but close to the main house / B&B with full bathroom, hot tub, and pool. Loved the fire pit and enjoyed seeing the baby animals on the farm. Short drive to amazing beaches. Really friendly folks, highly recommended.
Very private yet safe place to camp. Hosts are extremely friendly. The site is beautiful, convenient (for cooking, sitting around the campfire, etc), and clean. The tall trees keep the sun at bay and the heat low.
Flipjack Ranch is an oasis in the beautiful mountains of Santa Cruz! I highly recommend staying Mossy Bench Camp to all Hipcampers. The amenities made the stay very easy, including the fresh running water and the provided firewood. Robin was a gracious host and gave us a full tour of Flipjack Ranch.
Incredible experience. Beautiful camp. We build a fire and made a nice vegetarian bbque. Robin is friendly and has also bed and breakfast available with a gorgeous view on a garden. I highly recommend this place to disconnect from hectic lifestyles.
Mossy Bench is a beautiful campsite surrounded by redwoods. We loved the hammock and the privacy of the site since it is down the hill from from the house. The spa, pool, and shower were a highlight and was perfect after day trips to the surrounding beaches. The property is close enough to Santa Cruz (15 minute drive) that we opted to dine out and it was easier since there isn't a water spigot at the site. It's also close to Swanton Farm for treats and berry picking.
This campsite was lovely. There was room for two large tents, it had a huge well-maintained fire-pit, lovely stove & was surrounded by huge trees. The only downside was that it wasn't completely private (but that also meant we had a bathroom and pool to use just up a short path!). I would definitely stay here again & would recommend it to others as well!
We loved our stay at Mossy Bench Camp. If you’re looking for the comfort and convenience of a B&B while still camping this is a great option.
There is only one site, which is located below the primary area of the B&B, but it still feels nicely secluded under redwood trees. David was an amazingly gracious host, greeting us with a few turkey’s who followed us around. He provided us with a nice tour of property. Flipjack Ranch is near Beauregard Vineyards and Bonny Doon Beach. Campsite clean with nice fire-pit host supply's firewood we had use of B& B shower, bathroom and farm sink to clean dishes. Thank you property is wonderful
This camp site was so lovely! Perfectly secluded but also steps always from some nice amenitites (a bathroom and hot tub at the main B & B site). The hosts are friendly and great about getting you set up when you arrive and making sure you're set with firewood. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and hope to make it back to the site again soon!
