Located in the majestic desert of Wonder Valley, Moonlight Campground offers acres upon acres of exclusive private camp space.

This is a developing dispersed primitive site, and with your help, we hope to transform this spectacular picturesque property into a high end accommodation campground.

But until then, we currently provide a quiet bucolic setting filled with stars, the sky, fire rings, and beautiful mountain and desert views.

The Space:

Moonlight Campground is right off the historic Amboy Road (Route 66) where once a upon a time Amboy Road was the only way to travel from Los Angeles to Las Vegas during the Hollywood golden age.

Today, Amboy Rd is still very much alive and in good use for travelers looking to diverge from the main highways and cross the epic Mojave National Preserve into Las Vegas. From the property you can reach Las Vegas using Amboy Road in 3 hours or less.

Moonlight Campground is approximately 10 minutes from the main entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park (Oasis Visitor Center). Also conveniently located is the historic Palms Restaurant & Bar less than 2 minutes away driving west on Amboy Rd.

Guest Access:

Whether you're traveling in a smart car, prius (like myself), SUV, truck, or RV, the ground is flat and some areas are easily drive-able.

The campground can be reached from the main entrance through Midway Road.

Amenities:

Water - Be aware that most campgrounds have no water, so you’ll need to bring your own. Water is available at Oasis Visitor Center and West Entrance. You can also buy large plastic containers of water in stores outside the park.

Campsites - Each camp space can accommodate 4 to 8 people, 2 to 4 tents, and 2 cars. Campsites can not be left unattended for more than 24 hours.

RVs - There are no hookups for recreational vehicles yet.

Showers - Coyote Corner has everything you'll ever need to remember your trip to Joshua Tree National Park. They provide showers, wood, water, souvenirs, maps and more. Coyote Corner is approximately 20 minutes from the campground.

Other things to note:

Although this is a developing site, our current amenities features free parking, fire rings, stars, and private camp space.

Future developments in the works: Water, RV Hookups,  WIFI, Trash Bins, Bathrooms,  Showers, Picnic Tables, Assigned Tent Spaces, Raised Platforms, Lights, Outdoor Furniture, Signs.

This campground was definitely better than my friends and I expected. It was easy to find, right off an easy to find dirt road. Definitely a primitive location and the stars were so bright and of many. I was even able to see the Milky Way and shooting stars. The campsites and fire pits are of decent distance from each other, far enough for some privacy but close enough to make friends with your neighbors. And Joshua tree national Park is not a very far drive either. Great place for some real tent camping.

Moonlight campsite was fantastic!! Site was easy to find and was perfectly located for day hikes in Joshua Tree.
The campsite is beautiful and gave us a wonderful spot to watch the meteor shower. I will definitely be booking again next time I want to come back to Joshua Tree. I totally recommend this site!

Great campsite - very beautiful setting and the campsites are well spaced out so you have privacy. The property is right along Amboy Rd which is a fairly busy road (something we didn’t realize bc we’ve never been here before). Also, we really liked being in Wonder Valley but it was farther away from 29 Palms/Joshua Tree than we expected. Finally, this is definitely indicated in the listing but it’s worth noting that there is no water at the site - the closest water we found was at the Joshua Tree Visitors Center in 29 Palms.
