The Point: It was an absolute blessing Moonlight Ranch. My partner and I experienced a romantic night in a tent under the stars during a blue moon, connecting deeply with ourselves and each other.

The Place: If you're a minimalist you'll enjoy this spot. It's super convenient and easy to get to. It's a 5 minute drive from the main drag in JT - all the bars, shops and restaurants you would want to check out. It's also extremely close to Noah Purifoy's outdoor art exhibit which is a MUST SEE. Now the camp itself isn't anything out of a pinterest ad - you'll have to bring your own tent, RV or vehicle to stay in. You do get clean water and a port-o-potty that is easy to access. The whole point of this spot is to raise money to take care of these animals that need a family. If you know anything about animal sanctuaries, they function mainly on donations and those funds are drying up these days. This income stream is important for them to keep giving these animals the best lives they can. For getting a little messy and letting yourself sink into the natural landscape of JT, you get an inexpensive place to stay and you contribute to a worthy cause.

The People: Jessica is bubbly, intelligent, compassionate and a real firecracker. Her ranch-hand Misty was hilarious and sweet and they had a very comedic dynamic. Her husband Jonathan was friendly, loving and helpful. The entire place is super family vibes and everyone makes you feel at home. Jessica was an amazing host - she was willing to go above and beyond to make us comfortable, getting us a tent when we unexpectedly left parts at home. On our last day she gave us the full tour of all the animals and we just had a blast petting and getting to know each and every single ones personal journey.

The Animals:
A sweet donkey that cannot get enough love and petting. Older horses with so much soul and beauty that need extra care and attention and love as they live out their retirement. Goats galore - you gotta love em. Chickens and ducks (we got fresh eggs!!!), pigs and the cutest kissing Llama you've ever met. Seeing all the animals and spending time with them made this entire trip worth it and let us drop into our hearts and live on the frequency that these beautiful creatures reside in.

At Moonlight Ranch we returned to living in the moment and in that moment was so much love.

Wide open space next to the rescue. It was incredibly windy the night that I stayed here, and I used the provided cinder clocks (provided as a fire ring) to keep my tent from blowing away. I found out later there are posts cemented into the ground for this specific purpose *face palm* I paid to get a tour of the rescue, and I loved getting to meet so many sweet animals. I would definitely camp here again.

The directions were easy to follow via google maps. It happened to be snowing the night we stayed but we were able to get to the site perfectly fine. The campsite met our needs and our dog loved exploring the campsites and taking a peek at all the animals.

We stayed at Moonlight Animal Rescue for one night, and it was awesome! Great area to park our van with plenty of room, very convenient bathroom onsite, and hearing the animals through the morning was so refreshing!

We weren’t the only campervans parked at Jessica’s!

The host did stay in contact with me when I booked , then when I showed up I texted her to ask about the site and no response for like over an hour ? The toilet shower area was filthy . No soap or paper towels , mouse traps too I paid to see the animals but after seeing the bathroom I couldn’t imagine how they kept the animals

A very simple camp. Jessica was there to meet me. She seemed nice. The site is a small field with no shelter or character. The toilet and water facilities were pretty dreadful. We had to use an old trailer which was disguising and hadn't been cleaned. Also had to dodge the rat traps when using the toilet. Jessica's farm animals all seem to be penned into a very small holding. She said that the money from Hipcamp would pay for their food. That was the only part I felt good about staying there.
