Wow! Such a beautiful, private, clean spot in one of the most unique places. I love Mono Lake and Mono Camp made it a truly magical trip.
George was super attentive before arrival, was a great Host while there, and was able to provide firewood for really cheap. We met on arrival and he showed me around. I was so impressed! He is really excited to share his land with campers and I felt so welcomed.
Big Sage is a great place for larger groups. We came for a friend's birthday weekend and all 9 of us LOVED it. The site was very clean and as expected- lots of room to spread out, large firepit, astroturf for extra insulation (and cool greenery vibes), the toilet was very clean, running water available by the house, just all around amazing. The table that is set up is pretty spacious and we had no problem prepping meals on it.
One of the many great things about Mono Camp is the proximity to the Mono Lake. There's a forest road nearby that takes you pretty close to the shore. It's a 15-minute walk from where the road deadends. HIGHLY recommend driving down to the end and walking down to the lake. You'll have the whole place to yourself.
The sun rises at Mono Camp are unreal! Be sure to wake up early (30 minutes before sunrise) to watch the sun light up the Mono Basin and turn everything a spectrum of colors.
I can't wait to come back here.
Loved this spot! So happy to use the shade structure, BBQ, fire pit, and sound system. The views are amazing and the spot is close to a lot of fun destinations. We came here for my birthday with 10 people and there was plenty of space. Highly recommended.
A perfect camping trip
We loved every second of Big Sage.
About 10 of us went camping out there and there was more than enough room for all of us.
Everything felt so private, and our dogs had a blast spending time off leash.
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect vacation.
Big Sage was such an incredible surprise! It’s literally in the middle of nowhere so if you’re looking to seriously get away, this place is a great choice.
We spent three nights here and I wish I would’ve stayed a couple more to really soak in the beauty and seclusion. There was a full moon on one of our nights which light up the lake like a light bulb. It was amazing.
Camping in the high desert is such a unique and different experience from the forest camping that I’m used to. Although we didn’t meet the host, he seems nice and was helpful. The one thing I’d recommend to him would be to update the images of the canopy as they aren’t current. The canopy shades are older and fairly weathered and don’t look anything like the colorful ones shown. It honestly didn’t matter at all because it was still great and we totally enjoyed spending a lot of time underneath it. It just isn’t what’s pictured.
Would I come back? Absolutely! I’m pretty sure this was my favorite car camping experiences and I’ve had many. Thank you, George for making this available to us. It’s a true gem.
One of my best camping trips.
The communication with George was minimal. I started to worry that we hadn’t properly book when it took multiple emails to get a response. But alas he did reply and the site was WAY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS. We wanted a recluse spot away from everything, and that’s exactly what we got. This site is the biggest and most private of the grounds. We really felt like we were in the Wild West with nothing around for hundreds of miles.
We will definitely be coming back here to camp, together and individually. There are no real pests, flies or bugs. There’s some, but it’s less than expected.
