Mill Creek Ranch was a perfect spot for our first Hipcamp trip. Perfectly located for those exploring the Alexander Valley vineyards and a beautiful drive away from the Mendocino coast. Sites were just as advertised and the amenities tip top. If your are headed out this way, don't sleep on MCR.

A day before Labor Day weekend & we were lucky enough to score this spot! I hadn't had the chance to visit Mendocino before and this was the perfect spot to do so. Down the street is Hendy Woods and Anderson Brewing Company, and only 20 miles from the coast in the other direction. We managed to squeeze in all those activities but will be back for hikes in Mendocino National Forest & wine tasting.

The campsite had everything you could want - dense forest, flowing water (both a stream and clean drinking water), flushing toilets, & a hot shower. It was also quiet in the evenings, unlike dense public campgrounds usually are.

We didn't get to meet Christina as she was cheffing an event when we arrived but her husband met us promptly & showed us around the property. Saturo (Christina's husband) and the detail in the space speak to the hospitality and thought put into this place. Definitely recommend!

We took a chance and booked Mill Creek w no prior reviews based upon how cool the property looked in the photos and the fact that it had a hot shower, and we were handsomely rewarded. To begin the bathhouse/shower blew our expectations out of the water. It was just constructed out of repurposed redwood planks and all of the little conveniences were considered from hooks, to sink, to benches, not to mention the larger things like hot shower w strong water pressure and flush toilet.
There are four sites on property...two under the redwood canopy and two that are more exposed. The site we ended up w was one that was uncovered and suited our needs perfectly as we had complete privacy and enough space for our two dogs to run around.
There is also a creek to hike in on property which the dogs were absolutely stoked about.
Christina and family could not have been more gracious hosts and we felt like their personal guests. I could not recommend Mill Creek more strongly. We hope to return soon.

*this is a perfect place to rent the entire camp and host and big party or gathering.

We had the most wonderful experience here, the host’s were so accommodating and helpful to thru our whole stay. We stayed for 3 days in a beautiful site amongst redwood trees and a creek next to the tent. There’s a lot a things to do around the area, we went to winieries and the beach in Mendocino. There’s a great fruit and veggie stand down the street and a really cool rock shop as well. We will be coming again !

We enjoyed two nights at Mill Creek Retreat. We were lucky to arrive between rainstorms, and enjoyed the beautiful location in the redwoods at the edge of the Anderson Valley and our trips to the coast. Highlights were walking to (and in) the creek on the property, having our pup thrilled by the freedom of being off leash and, as others have noted, the great restroom. The weekend after Thanksgiving, we were the only campers; I expect the camp is busier other times. I would recommend the camp for families and groups especially; there is a great group/wedding site on the property. We were only disappointed that our site was bordered by piles of wood (from a prior structure?) and that the solar lights on the route to the outhouse were not functioning. We were glad that a site was available with sun and dry ground. Christina was helpful providing directions for our arrival, with prompt communications.

We were lucky enough to stay at Mill Creek Ranch over Christmas in a 30 ft. travel trailer. We were the only campers and had the place to ourself. Christina met us at the main road and led us up to her property and helped us find the perfect spot. She and her son showed my family around the property while I set up camp. My kids has so much fun with Christina’s son and all the places he took them. The creek was especially fun for the kids and their rain boots!

Christina’s husband checked on us in the morning and gave us local tips and places to visit. Much appreciated!

The property is so beautiful and so private. We were amazed with how many stars were were able to see at night.

We would definitely come back!

I do not wish to be too harsh here as this place has a lot of potential and the layout of the bathhouse is quite nice. However, first off, I have to say never pick site 1 but I'll get to more on that later. First some overall camp things.

First poison oak is everywhere. They have a note saying to stay on the path and it's hard to keep up with it but, for the rate they are charging I expect more. Our site was lined with it.

The creek that is listed as year-round is not. It was July so we are only about halfway through summer dryness and the creek was no longer running, just stagnant pools. Just be honest, it's a seasonal creek.

Ok, site 1: Don't choose this spot. Site 2 doubles as a wedding venue. Site 1 is it's parking lot. Seriously, not just next to it, it's the parking lot and a couple of chairs and a picnic table. You are in full view of site 2, there is not even a blade of grass between the sites. Also, literally within arms reach of the site is an old rusted lampshade that was just left in the crook of a tree and there is a large pile of pallets as your view. Finally, you are not secluded, you are road adjacent and it's not even a quiet road. Figure every 10-15 minutes a truck is going to be accelerating it up the incline withing 100-feet of you; oh, and again, you are in full view of the road.

My recommendations to the hosts that would turn this sad review into a full happy one. Be honest in your posting, and clear the poison oak. At the rate you charge it's within reach.

We stayed on site 5 at the top of the hill, which had good and bad points.

First the good: Christina’s property is located in a terrific area of Anderson Valley, close to wineries and a short (30 min) drive to the coast. The trees on the property - particularly sites 1 and 2 - are dense and beautiful. The shared bathroom was a short walk down the hill from site 5 and was surprisingly well kept and equipped....camping luxury! At night, the star gazing potential is spectacular with unobstructed views of the sky and no light pollution. The site is huge ... far larger than typical camp sites.. And Christina couldn’t have been more pleasant to work with.

Now the things we didn’t love: site 5 has no shade, and if you arrive in summer like we did, the site is inhabitable during the day. Plan on spending your time at the coast or somewhere in the trees. There was an easy-up over the picnic table but without any tree coverage, the heat can be intense. Without the beautiful trees of the other sites, #5 just wasn’t a pretty place to camp and felt a little like staying in a parking lot. And then there’s the cost - you can make you own value judgement, but the nightly rate was easily 4x more than any campground we have ever been to, but none of us felt like we would ever pay that much again for a few nights of camping, especially on site 5. (Perhaps the other sites pictured in the trees would not have felt different, but no way could I justify the price of site 5 again).

That said, we had a great weekend in Anderson Valley and Mendocino, but the actual camping experience was not as nice as we’d hoped.

Site 5...plenty of space...and the only site with no neighbors.

Great site. The bathhouse was primitive but very clean and functional. Site #4 had a bit of a wasp problem, so we ended up cooking and eating at site #3 since no one was there. Good location. Close to Narravo beach and Mendocino. Wineries within 20 mins. Very quiet at night.
