Mendocino Magic is truly unique. It's a large property with a very quiet and private feel. Yet, you also feel part of a friendly community. Our site was perfectly spacious and located with only a quick jaunt to the lake and trails. Would definitely recommend.
Gratitude for the magic
Moving back into shared space after sheltering in place for so long with Covid-19 was a unique and unfamiliar vulnerability. Mackenzie and her family were welcoming, mindful and prepared hosts. They made sure to spread the active camp sites enough to foster great boundaries and distance between strangers. The site was clean and absolutely stunning. Spending time walking the trails and swimming in the lake was beyond refreshing. I highly recommend experience the magic. It is a delightful reset.
Gorgeous and welcoming!
Mackenzie was amazing. The campsite was spacious and well appointed with a sink, showers and ample water supply. There was abundant shade. I felt cared for but never crowded. 10/10 would recommend and will return.
The reservoir lake was stunning. Swam for hours.
Junk yard experience
I do not recommend this location. We were shocked when we pulled up to see how poorly they had kept the entire spot. I've been camping for decades and this has to be the worst by far.
The sites in the main camp ground are a dump surrounded by junk yards. For example, there were 4 toilet seats ditched on the grass right next to our camp site. There is junk all over the property. We paid $150 a night...absolutely outrageous. The host was brutal to coordinate with outside of hipcamp messenger. We were traveling with young kids so we wanted to better understand the different camp grounds and options and she was only willing to coordinate via messenger which meant more time trying to email back and forth. Literally a 5 min call would have answered all of our questions.
There is a pond. If you get to camp by the pond I would say "maybe" worth it because you can swim there and you're far away from all their junk/ trash.
Porter potties and washing stations...that's about the only good thing you get for $150 a night.
