The vibe at Modern Camping Mendocino
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We stayed 4 days at the New Mendocino Campground on the second weekend they opened for the season. They had a few bumps to still figure out (we got our fire ring on the second night, had to bring over a picnic table to our site, for example), but overall it was a totally magical experience and we would love to go back. The beds are super comfortable and there are lots of extra blankets which was good, as it gets quite chilly. Remember to put stuff away at night, as it gets thick blankets of fog overnight. We figured that out the first morning when the stuff we left out was all wet.
They have a few really thoughtful touches that were much appreciated like hot water and filtered water available near the restrooms at all times, hot water bottles to tuck in the bed at night and a small breakfast delivered each morning to our porch along with hot water for the provided coffee or tea. The bathrooms and showers were impeccable with wonderful smelling soaps, motion sensored lights, mirrors (you don't often see those camping), a place to charge your phone and HOT water. :) One of the best camping showers I've ever had.
Teresa and the folks she has working there were all super sweet and helpful in getting us whatever we needed. Firewood was delivered to our site each day, which was also a nice perk. Go visit! You won't regret it.
We absolutely loved our two nights here! Right as we arrived we were greeted and given a personal tour of the campground. Bathrooms were clean, showers were hot, the bed was cozy, and breakfast was delivered to the deck in an adorable basket each morning. If you don't mind a little bit of dirt or wrapping up in lots of blankets to stay warm in the foggy Mendocino nights, its a perfect alternative to all the dowdy inns nearby. We can't wait to come back!
My 12 year-old daughter and I had a wonderful time at hip camp last week. Teresa and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The campsite was beautiful, the tent spacious and comfortable and there was even hot water for coffee in the morning and tea all day long (no need for all the supplies we had brought with us). One of my daughter's favorite things was the "surprise" basket, filled with breakfast goodies brought to our tent each morning. During the day we hung out on our deck, walked down to the water, or drove to the beach or into Mendocino to explore. We had a fabulous time and intend to make it our yearly mom-daughter adventure from now on. Thank you!
This place is great and relaxing. We spent 3 nights and could have stayed longer. Each morning they supplied a really great continental breakfast and gourmet coffee. It was the best ever. The tents and bed were immaculate with sheets and blankets. Each camp has its own fire ring with plenty of free wood, gas burning BBQ and picnic table. The tents are spread out so that you don't feel that you're being cramped. The showers and bathrooms are also immaculate with supplied towels, wash clothes, soap and shampoo. The people that run the place were fantastic. (Hello to Teresa and Marny). The town of Mendocino has 7 or 8 restaurants and a very well stocked grocery store. We will defiantly be going back next year.
Had a wonderful time. It was truly someplace I will be returning to. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The tents nice and comfy along with the private fire pits, wood and started included. Bbq was provided for cooking along with utensils. The bathroom was nice with plush towels and great soap. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The camp was quiet, my campsite was beautiful both inside and out. The bed was comfortable and the continental breakfast was a really nice touch. Theresa was very welcoming and the camp staff helpful. Would absolutely go back.
What a great time my family had. Teresa has done a fantastic job at putting the GLAM into camping. The bathrooms are nicer then ours at home. The tents are beautiful, with warm soft bedding, two chest to keep your things off the floor, two super cool chair to relax in on the porch,. Breakfast of fresh local bread, honey butter, fruit, hard boiled eggs left on your porch at 7:30 in the morning what could be more perfect !
We will be back!
We had a great experience Glamping at Modern Camping Mendocino. It is really well done and Teresa & Chris have done a great job so far getting it all up and running. I can't wait to see what they add each year. The location is perfect, the "tents" are super comfortable and well appointed. Everything is done very tastefully. Nothing tacky is used for furniture, bedding, china, the breakfast basket... the atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Perfect for us and anyone who is not super keen on the other kind of camping! All the staff is friendly and helpful. I am hankering after the yummy fresh warm bread that was delivered to our tent each morning. Who knew I would be excited to go camping again? Opps, I mean Glamping!
What an amazing spot ! Can't wait to go back next year it's amazing !!! Sweetest owner and great touches everywhere. The bathrooms are really nice and breakfast every morning served to you can't ask for more. Also a walk to catch a Canoe to rent a canoe or walk over to Ravens restaurant for the best meal in Mendocino ! Nice linens also to keep you warm on the north coast
We have been wanting to go camping again and this was just the ticket. No setting up the tent, scrounging around for firewood, wishing for a cup of real coffee, or bathing in a bucket of cold water. None of that. Clean, comfortable and modern. Perfect for the "been there done that" camper. Wish you had other locations just like this one.
We had the best weekend here and wish we could have stayed longer! The camp is exactly as pictured and the location is perfect. You can easily explore the surrounding areas during the day and come back to a cozy, clean and quiet campground for the night. The staff was very helpful and friendly answering any questions we had, and we felt very welcomed. We will definitely be back next season!
The Classic Tent is one option at the Mendocino Grove campground. There are larger family tents plus 'pitch your own tent' sites.
The classic tents are spacious and the beds comfortable with adequate coverings to keep warm on cold evenings. Each tent porch has two leather covered chairs.
Be advised that tents are placed in groupings with a common fire pit and gas grills. We were in the Comptche site which had six tents. While our tent #C4 had it's own fire pit the other five tents shared a common firepit. We certainly enjoyed the privacy of our own fire and if this is important to you be sure to request a site with it's own firepit.
The main bath room has four unisex private showers which were very clean. The restrooms had bath towels and facial cloths. There was a portable bath house by our campsite which we used and was quite nice although you had to get a towel from the main bathroom if you didn't bring your own.
The town of Mendocino is very quaint and the nearby Mendocino Headlands-Big River state park offer great hiking and boating opportunities.
Incredible attention to detail staying here with Teresa and her crew in these ultra cute and cozy tent cabins. The amenities and ground were top notch area simply gorgeous, the setting is peaceful and although it was cool, windy and foggy the weekend we went, it was super warm and comfortable under those amazing down comforters. And the warm breakfast, of fresh bread, homemade jams, ricotta cheese, a warm baguette, and eggs all served with hot tea, coffee and hot chocolate each day was beyond perfect. Oh and those of you who hate camping because of the bathrooms— well these are impeccable, modern and very tidy. LOVED my stay here and am planning to go back again this next season.
Teresa and her team have a wonderful thing going up in Mendacino; something truly unique and down to earth despite the 'glamping' connotations. Hot showers, fresh towels, coffee in the morning, hot water on tap, it takes drive-in camping to a whole new level. While a bit cold (50's in May), the camp was quiet, respectful, with all that you want for a weekend hideaway - I would highly recommend this camp if it falls within your budget.
Our stay at Mendocino Grove was great! The tent was nice and clean upon arrival. The bathhouse was sooo nice and the showers were clean. Complimentary hot tea, coffee, and hot cocoa was a plus! The only minor complaint was that we didn't have our own fire put the first night and had to use the communal one in our area. There was a huge group where we were and although we didn't mind socializing at all, we paid to have our own fire pit and didn't fully get to enjoy it. Also, they no longer serve complimentary breakfast (at least for this season). They came out with fresh fruit, yogurt, and cereal bars served on a picnic table near the bathhouse. Besides that, everything was great! We would definitely recommend Mendocino Grove for anyone looking to go glamping ;)
Loved our stay here! The beds were plenty warm and so comfy. All the amenities were great, even hot water at the sinks in the water closets to wash your face and hands. It felt like being at a Wes Anderson set. This campsite is a well oiled machine, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Would stay here again, 10/10, would recommend to a friend!!!!
Great weekend at Mendocino Grove! The tents are comfy, clean and the campground was quiet and super relaxing. Teresa and her team were super helpful upon arrival, but gave us our privacy. Check out the trail that loops around the property and Catch-A-Canoe for something fun to do. Would definitely go back again someday!
It's everything that we were expecting and more! I love this place.. from the tents, how they're spaced and laid out. The surroundings and amenities are very clean. All you have to worry about is learn how to take a sit back, enjoy and relax. Definitely recommending Mendocino Grove to everyone who wants to get away, have a moment off and enjoy nature and it's beautiful views.
Words can't describe how amazing our weekend was. The sites and tents are so beautiful. The beds are extremely comfortable and there's nothing better than waking up in the morning to the sound (and site) of waves crashing. I can't say enough great things about this place and I've told everyone they have to go here!!! Can't wait to book my next stay!
This place was incredible! Very beautiful setting, a good way to get outside and feel the wind on your face and smell the ocean breeze while maintaining all of your creature comforts. The beds were amazingly comfortable, and it was heavenly to get the sounds and feel of camping while being warm and comfy in a huge bed. We will be returning!
We absolutely LOVED our experience!!! I'm a single Mama with two littles- 4 and 6- and full on camping is far too intimidating. This was the perfect combination of camping for us. We literally just needed our clothes and food. We can't say enough about how much we loved it. Now if only it didn't take us 5.5 hours to get home!!!
This place is a great little hideaway! The new owners did a great job at making your stay memorable. The owner and grounds keeper were very nice and understanding when my Giant dog behaved badly with a near miss and another guest! I felt horrible. But they were very understanding. The NEW camp host not so much. Not so sure she is in the right job. I would come back, without my dog, if she werent there. The tents were spacious, clean and inviting. Bathrooms were clean and met our needs. Our bathroom in our area had not been drained so it was closed starting our second day.... a further walk to the bathroom for us. If I could make a suggestion, it would be nice to have more activities in the common area besides Bocce ball. And maybe some instant oats fr breakfast would be nice. Other than that, you guys were awesome and we would definitely come again! Thanks for a noce trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Mendocino Grove! The staff was friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean and welcoming, a nice breakfast "bar" with just enough to get you going as you start your day..and more! It was my first time camping and quite frankly, the only way to go for me moving forward. The tents were amazingly comfortable and we got a great group of neighbors which made the stay moreenjoyable. I completely felt like I got the camping experience with the comfort of great sleeping quarters and clean facilities. We'll be back!
