Our campgrounds are rugged, beautiful and easy going. We are environmentally minded and encourage you to camp lightly. We especially love bicyclists and international visitors!
You will be surrounded by Redwood, Douglas Fir, Buckeye, Madrone, Bay Laurel, and Tan Oak. There is a diversity of native ground cover including wild rose, hazel and ferns. We have an abundance of wildlife that freely roams the land here, although most are very shy of people. Camping here is an opportunity to see Deer, Turkey, Owl, Quail, Great Blue Heron, Woodpecker, Hawk, Raccoon, Gopher, Fox, Coyote, Bobcat, Frogs, Salamanders, or even the elusive Mountain Lion…
We are located next door to Memorial Park at the base of Mount Ellen, and close to the county’s Old Haul Road, so you have access to lots of hiking and biking trails. Several beaches are just ten or fifteen minutes away. Lovely little Pescadero and La Honda have great food (warm Artichoke Bread at Arcangeli!) and cool stores.
-Amenities include: clean and soft redwood chips to put your tent on, private or shared campfire pits or chiminea, and a nearby hot outdoor shower. Each campfire site already has a grill, firewood, kindling, matches or lighter, water to put out your fire, a fire extinguisher, and a basic first aid kit.
-On the entrance level we have solar powered electricity, wifi and an Information Kiosk near the entrance. The Kiosk has all the information you will need including a map, a walkie talkie to check in with the host, nature guidebooks and helpful advice. You may catch some spotty Verizon/ATT cell reception up at the campsites.
The sites is up a STEEP HILL, but we will help you carry your gear upon arrival (between 2pm-6pm) with our trusty 4x4 Mule. For safety reasons, no passengers are allowed. Please email and/or call if you will be later than 6pm and remember that you may have to carry your own gear up. Please note, you are responsible for carrying your own gear downhill when you check out, so remember to camp lightly if that’s a concern. You can ask the host upon arrival to make special arrangements, in which case a $10 gratuity is suggested.
-We encourage you to leave us a review on Hipcamp, sign our Guest Book, help us translate our signs into more languages, make friendly suggestions, and always alert us to any problems or hazards.

The vibe at M.C.C. Sheltered Campfire
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Close by Pescadero but being deep in the hills feels like a world away from the coast. Short hike up the mountain to this super comfortable site. Great campfire space for grilling dinner or toasting marshmallows. We were even visited by coyotes in the night. Great setting, adventure, we plan on being back!
Great campsite situated at the base of the redwood trees. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, but also respectful of our privacy. They were kind enough to haul our gear up the steep trail with their atv "mule". Super relaxing spot under the sheltered campsite. Tons of shade provided by the redwood canopy, but can hike up the hill for a little sun. We would definitely go back to McCormick Creek again!
The Sheltered Camp is a sweet spot amongst redwood trees! The tent space is was enough for two tents and wood chips were a great added cushion for sleeping. It is a bit of a steep, but short hike up to the Sheltered Camp, but definitely worth it. The outdoor shower was amazing if you really feel the need to rinse off after a hike. This is a great spot for a weekend getaway to go hiking, check out Pescadero and the beach. I will definitely come stay here again soon!
Had a great stay here with my 6 year old son. The campground and the shelter make for a very comfortable place to spend the night. We spent the morning in nearby memorial park, exploring the trails and wading in the creek, and the continued on to the small town of Pescadero with a great rocky beach. I highly recommend McCormick Creek and will certainly return.
I camped here with 4 other friends, and the sheltered campfire was a great choice! The staff was kind enough to haul all our things up to the campsite as we followed behind (short 3 minute walk uphill). The site has a bathroom, hot shower, fire pit (provided with wood and paper), and a bench with 2 small side chairs. They have space for 2 4-person tents side-by-side on some comfy wood chips, which made our over-nighter that much better. Definitely recommend!
