We've headed into our Winter season, so we are offering a discounted price to camp. However, due to the weather of the season. Outdoor kitchen and showers are closed for the season. Starting April 15th 2026 the kitchen and outdoor showers we'll be fully reopen for Spring. Outdoor camping made easy with a FULLY OUTFITTED OPEN AIR OUTDOOR KITCHEN and HOT SHOWERS (not available in the coldest times of the year when pipes freeze). Kitchen includes hot water sinks, refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, blender, espresso machine, coffee grinder and maker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, knives, cutting boards, etc. If there's something you need and can't find it, we'll bring it out from our kitchen in the house. ALL YOU NEED TO BRING FOR MEALS IS THE FOOD. Limited grocery shopping in our little town; it's good to shop ahead. During June- August, fires MIGHT be allowed in the communal fire pit near the kitchen. You must ask the host!, No fires at your campsite June- August, Fires during cooler months are often allowed at your campsite, but you must ask the host if current conditions allow Fire MUST be completely extinguished before you go to sleep at night. Instructions are printed and at at each site as well as at the communal firepit. Firewood available for purchase. SMOKERS, please be super careful! Outlets to CHARGE YOUR PHONE and DEVICES at the Stage and in the kitchen. Fruit trees and gardens dot the property. Feel free to pick a piece of fruit. We almost always have organic fresh eggs from the chickens for sale, The Camp Store has a variety of items such as jam, organic veggies, flowers, etc. See the list on the fridge. We're in a wooded country neighborhood where lots of folks have dogs, so you might hear some barking and see some neighbors. Very occasionally we see a dog off leash. We ask that you keep your dogs on leash at all times, as we have cats and chickens. We encourage you to enjoy the forest, but do be aware that there is poison oak. If you don't know what it looks like we can show you. Arrive anytime after 1pm. Check out is at noon, but you can often stay later if we don't have other campers arriving to your site. If your plans change, just let us know at least 24 hours before check-in and you'll get a full refund.

FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN, you bring the food--we've got everything else you'll need. EASY TURN AROUND: Your vehicles will fit along the road. Your car can NOT be driven right up to your picnic table at this site. To park near your picnic table, reserve sites: "Stage in the Woods," "Under the Madrones," or "Happy Go Lucky." ). It's about a 30 yard walk from where you park your car to your campsite. There is a wheel barrel to help move your things. Your car will be safe on our little private road. We have a 80' turn around at the end of our road to make access super easy! Penny has just 6 campsites on 4 acres so you won't be right next to other campers.

We had such a lovely time at Lucky Penny, and it was so beautiful even at the end of the season! Hillary was a wonderful host and surprised us with fresh brewed coffee in the morning. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend

We loved camping on Hillary's land at the Lucky Penny Hipcamp. We had lots of space, the land is forested (pines, madrones and Douglas-firs), and shady. We were there in early October, and she let us pick ripe apples and figs from her fruit trees. The water supply is very good. They have a composting toilet, which is clean, well-decorated with art, and well-constructed. The showers are solar-heated and rustic, but a shower felt great! Our female black Labrador is very well-behaved, and so she went off-leash a lot and enjoyed exploring and playing in the woods. Hillary has 2 or 3 free-ranging cats, so be aware of that. Also, the native vegetation has poison oak, so watch out! We're immune, so we had a great time. Note: We had trouble finding the driveway, beacuse Hillary's house was the landmark, and we couldn't see it because it's hidden behind a redwood tree.

We were so LUCKY to find Lucky Penny for our recent camping trip! I wanted to take my two young girls on one last summer adventure, and it was the perfect choice. The drive from the Bay Area was easy, and we were absolutely delighted by the property and all its amenities. The campsite was perfect—complete with benches, a table, and even a toy shed right there for the kids. The showers were spacious with plenty of hot water, and the toilets were clean and easy to use. The highlight for us was the incredible outdoor kitchen, surrounded by fruit trees and blackberry bushes that kept my little ones happily occupied. Hillary and her partner were so warm and welcoming, offering great suggestions for nearby swimming spots. We also loved the option to purchase fresh eggs and organic pressed apple juice—my kids were thrilled! We can’t wait to come back next summer.

Hillary’s land was perfect for our campervan stay. It was quiet and shady, with lots of space. Our site was a two minute walk (through beautiful woods) to the communal kitchen, with great facilities. The outdoor shower was wonderful to use in the hot weather. Hillary was helpful with directions and recommendations for local swimming holes and hikes.

Wonderful, safe & fun camping spots just a stones throw out of Laytonville. We especially appreciated the rustic showers with hot water, the well stocked communal outdoor kitchen & the sweet chickens popping in to say hi. We’ll definitely be back!

Our 3rd time coming here and we simply love it. This is by far our favorite hipcamp and it feels like a hidden gem that I dont want to tell others about. By far the most family friendly out there!

I booked last minute and they were super helpful! I forgot my air mattress pump and they offered to let me borrow a mattress. Overall amazing experience and super friendly! Safe place to stay . I would definitely come back !

Hilary’s property was amazing, the amenities were all in great shape and the campsites themselves were beautiful. The area is decorated perfectly and her attention to detail in the shared spaces was noticed. There are many adorable cats roaming the property.

Beautiful location. Creative and artistic shared spaces, including wonderfully equipped shared kitchen and private outdoor showers with hot water. There was a shed with lots of toys for our four year old to choose from, which made his day. We were received warmly, introduced to two darling kittens, and lived exploring the grounds.

We had a wonderful time at Hillary’s place. She is a warm and attentive host and was very communicative before and during our trip. Our campsite was spacious and clean. We loved the communal cooking area. It had everything we needed including a toaster and a fridge. We can’t recommend this campsite enough!

The best hosts ever. Friendly, lovely and quiet property. My blowup mattress wasn’t holding air so they actually gave me a mattress to sleep on. They had firewood provided at $10 a bundle and would bring it to you. Although the site was close to the house, they were not around. I did not see them or anyone really. A lot of campsites on private property have their downsides, but I can’t think of one downside on this campsite. They are setting up a TP site as well and honestly, I’m surprise this place isn’t full every single night. Definitely going back and definitely recommend.

Hillary was a great host and her spot is very well thought out! The kitchen has everything you'll need and more. The composting toilets were way better than any port-a-potty and most campground bathrooms. Plus there was chickens and kittens😍 Unfortunately, there was some road noise but we were at the closest site to the road so maybe choose one further back. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay! Thanks Hillary!!

We absolutely loved our visit to Lucky Penny. Hillary and her family were so welcoming and made us feel comfortable right away. The communal kitchen was such a treat and made meal preparation easy. The facilities were clean and well taken care of and full of extra little thoughtful touches. My kids thought it was "the most magical place" ever. We would love to visit again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

We were about to attend a three day music festival a couple miles north or Laytonville and needed a place to spend the night in our campervan. Hillary's land proved the perfect spot. Plus, Hillary was super helpful and friendly in all aspects leading up and commencing with our stay.

This spot is a true gem! It has everything you forgot to bring on your camping trip and still provides a gorgeous secluded environment. I rolled in way later than expected but found the spot easily and was able to set up camp and get a fire started before nightfall. The site host is angel to boot! l

We loved having a site with grass where we sat at a table underneath fruit trees. The outdoor kitchen was super well equipped. There are so many decorative details which made the site one of the most pleasant and enjoyable ones I've ever stayed in.

It was a joy to stay at Lucky Penny Laytonville! We booked two nights and ended up staying for three! Hillary and AJ were great hosts! The farm fresh eggs were egg-mazing! We will definitely be coming back when we’re in the area.

This camping area is so nice and in a really cute town. The host couldn’t have been more sweet and accommodating even though we were there during the off season. The trees were so dreamy and falling asleep to the rain was so ideal. The outdoor kitchen area was very well equipped and we would definitely visit again!

We had a great time at Hillary's spot! She came out to greet us right away and showed us the ropes. It was a chilly winter night so we were the only ones there and had the place to ourselves. She was kind enough to bring out the cooking equipment and make sure the setup worked for our short one-night stay. Her outdoor kitchen setup is so cute! We loved petting the kitties and enjoying wine and cheese by candlelight at the outdoor table.

We had a wonderful experience at Lucky Penny. Hillary and AJ were wonderful hosts. The kitchen and all of the common spaces were awesome and our fellow travelers were all so friendly. We will definitely be going back!

We were so happy to be able to camp here again. The outdoor kitchen and hot showers really make camping a more enjoyable. We didn’t have to pack half of our camping gear because the kitchen has everything you need except your food. Our children loved playing with the toys in the shed, looking for eggs laid by the chickens, playing with kittens, and picking blackberries. We also enjoyed watching shooting stars on the stage and seeing the dear wander through. The compostable toilets are regularly serviced so they don’t smell. The host are very pleasant and have wonderful recommendations for local spots to swim or have a delicious meal.

What a magical spot! This was very accessible from the highway and yet felt perfectly tucked away and remote. We stayed in "Under the Madrone" campsite had the whole space to purselves in a beautifully shaded forest area. The outdoor kitchen and showers were abouy a 5 min walk and made for a glamping like experience with everything we needed for some amazing meals. This is a family friendly campsite and only 25 min from amazing swimming holes and about a hour from Avenue of the Giants. Perfect weekend getaway. Hilary was super welcoming and helpful.
