The hosts were very kind and friendly, and the stars and sunset/sunrise are amazing from the spot! If you're looking for a quiet getaway or campsite-like spot, though, this isn't really the place--- what isn't super clear from the photos or description is that you're right in the backyard of the hosts, who are great and nice, but it definitely isn't very private and definitely does not have the campsite feel! you do feel a little in the middle of someones home. The hosts and neighbors have a lot of dogs as well, who are adorable, but there's a lot of noise throughout the night between the dogs, other nearby animals, etc, so it was pretty noisy at night. Overall, though, we had a good stay and the star bed is a really neat spot!

We had an awesome time staying at Julie's ranch. Sleeping under the stars, listening to coyotes, watching the moon move across the sky was a beautiful experience for our family. Lovelight ranch was kid friendly, very welcoming, and I would recommend it to any of my friends.

Julie was an awesome host at this Desert Hot Springs property. It ended up being chilly and wet when we were there, so Julie offered her guest room for us to stay in (thank you!), but the Star Bed was great for stargazing and relaxing in the evening and sunrise (which is amazing in the desert). Our puppy fit in with the welcoming pack at the Lovelight Ranch (key for exploring Joshua Tree, which isn't very dog-friendly for wildlife preservation reasons), and everyone at this hippie enclave was friendly and hospitable. It is the country, with the sounds of roosters, dogs, horses and coyotes, so light sleepers: plan ahead if you need quiet or white noise to sleep. Otherwise, the outdoor kitchen was great, we enjoyed the fire pit (byo wood), and animal lovers will love playing with the dogs and feeding the tortoises!

My boyfriend and I stayed here during a weekend trip to visit Joshua Tree, and we had a blast! The hosts were out of town during our stay, but they have two on-site staff members who were super welcoming and helpful. We actually were the only ones staying on the property that weekend, although I was told it can accommodate up to 25 people. Although it would have been fun to bum around with other guests, it ended up being an unexpectedly quiet and romantic experience for me and the bf.

The ranch definitely has a hippie hostel feel to it, with lots of outdoor hangout spots and eclectic decorations sprinkled throughout the sprawling property. The bathroom and kitchen in particular are great, and had it been less windy, I would have loved to hang out around one of the fire pits! We also found the pool to be really refreshing during the hot desert afternoons.

The Star Bed itself was really pleasant. It's high up enough that it feels a little secluded from the owners' home and other surrounding structures. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the view of the night sky was superb. Unfortunately, due to the freakishly strong wind (to the extent that the bed was actually blown over a few times!), we were only able to actually sleep on the Star Bed one night. Leslie (one of the staff) was incredibly accommodating and had us sleep in a more protected spot on the second night.

Overall, we had an awesome time, and I would love to come back and stay at the Star Bed again on a less windy weekend! I didn't have any problem with noise, though the wind was so loud it may have drowned all other sounds out. The dogs were AMAZING and so fun to play with. One of them (the boss dog, don't remember his name but he definitely runs the show) even slept on the Star Bed with us the first night. Can't wait to come back!

Little sassy dog!Our little bed buddy :)View in the morning off the deck of the Star Bed. The neighbors roosters are pretty loud (and sound like screaming humans), but the sun will wake you up before they get started anyway!View toward the back of the ranch.

We had a lovely visit at the Lovelight Ranch. Our family of four (two children aged 10 and 8) made our base at The Star Bed. We had plenty of room for all our things up there, plus we had the nice indoor toilet & outdoor shower just below. We also had use of a refrigerator (this may not happen for every visitor depending on crowds) and full use of an outdoor kitchen. Julie and Michael, our hosts, were fantastic - so hospitable and friendly, accommodating and flexible. The Star Bed is so much fun -- waking up to glorious sunrises, settling in as the sun went down, and feeling the breezes throughout the night were the highlights. The king size bed was mighty comfie, too! The rest of Lovelight Ranch is fascinating -- several other camping spots that are equally cool to the Star Bed, a raised pool, a swingset, lots of swinging seats and lounging areas throughout the property, two tortoises, and two or three really sweet, friendly (but not overly) dogs. I would definitely camp at Lovelight again. It was a good midway base between the main Joshua Tree park entrance on the north side and the Cottonwood Springs entrance to the park on the south. Fantastic time. Thank you Julie and Michael!!

This place is great. Julie and Mikey were very gracious hosts, and made us feel like part of the family. The property is an expansive, funky enclave of different types of shelters-- you can sleep under the stars like we did, in a dugout cabin with a green roof, or just a pitch a tent. The dogs are all super friendly, and their huge tortoise is by far the friendliest turtle I've ever met...dude came right up to me with a big smile! Would love to kick it with Julie & Mikey again!

We loved our stay at the lovelight ranch!!!!!! The hosts were so sweet and accommodating! They have the nicest dogs that my one year old loved playing fetch with!!! The property is beautiful and they have tons of helpful things for cooking and camp fires! I'd highly recommend staying there and we will be back again soon!
