***COVID-19 Update:  We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and well during these challenging times.  For your safety and ours, we are following all guidelines from state and county officials regarding COVID-19.  We are practicing social distancing and ask that you do the same when interacting with us.  If we need to be closer than 6 feet, we will wear masks and ask that you and your guests do the same.  We'll continue our thorough cleaning and sanitizing of all linens and surfaces in the cabin, outdoor shower and fire pit areas, paying special attention to high touch surfaces.  The minimum night stay has increased to 3 nights and we now leave 2 days  between bookings-- the 24 hours recommended by the CDC, plus an additional 24 hour buffer to minimize the possibility of lingering germs.  We've also had to remove some of our high-touch amenities-- books, DVDs, magazines, games.  You can still see and use them, just let us know (a list is in the cabin).  Thank you for understanding.  We look forward to hosting you.  Be well.

The cabin’s modern interior sleeps two— one queen bed fitted with cotton jersey sheets and down bedding, kitchenette with snacks, a writing desk and chair, tv/dvd set, and en-suite half bath.  The private outdoor shower room with on-demand hot water is just across the yard.  NOTE:  The outdoor shower is CLOSED for the winter season (10/25/20 through Spring 2021). There is a picnic table for alfresco dining and a deck overlooking the creek.

Feel free to use Our Country Home as a jumping-off point as you explore beautiful Mendocino county.  Or recalibrate yourself right here.  We invite you to create your own happiness.  A seasonal creek runs through the property.  Wild blackberries and blackcap raspberries are everywhere and you may luck out and find a few wild strawberries too.  The large lawn area is great for day dreaming, sun bathing, and games (we have frisbee, bean bag toss, and cricket).  The garden has mature apple trees, grape vines, vegetables and herbs. Spy the local fauna including wild turkeys, deer, bunnies, hummingbirds and more.  Enjoy cocktails around the fire pit, live music (if you bring your own instruments :-)), dance, or stargaze— the night sky is big and dark up here.  We’ve got a few board games, playing cards, and a pretty great selection of  movies from the past several years plus more titles if movie-watching is your thing.  Wi-fi is available.  AT&T has the best mobile reception here (there’s a Verizon hotspot about 1/4 mile down the road).  If needed, there is also a landline in the main house.

We have a friendly old dog who may come around to greet you.  His name is Radar.  He may sit with you for a while.  If you don't want his company just kindly ask him to leave.  He really will listen.

We are about 4 miles from town, where you'll find gas and provision, including Safeway, Mariposa Organic Market, and Rite-Aid.  Howard Memorial Hospital is also nearby. Besides chillin', there are many nice things to do around here.  If you're looking for relief from the heat, there are a couple of great swimming holes along the Eel river, a few miles north of town.  Schanachie Pub, on Main street in Willits, has great live music and an impressive selection of local brews, hard ciders, kombuchas, and wine (they only accept cash).  There are many wineries, and wine tasting opportunities, along the 101.  And Orr Hot Springs and Vichy Hot Springs are not too far away.

Checkin:  We'll try to be here to get you settled in.  But occasionally we may not.  No worries.  We'll send you the cabin keypad and wifi codes before your arrival.  That way you can call or text if you have any questions.  There is also a folder with details about the property and Willits area in the cabin.

The perfect retreat - and Leslie is the perfect host! The cabin is as cute as it looks, completely secluded yet comfortably appointed with a good bed, bedding and fluffy towels. You'll sleep well here. Spotlessly clean, too.

Wifi is fine for email, but you won't be doing Zoom calls from here :) Also, the access road is challenging for sports cars but regular sedans will have no trouble.
